The Bicycle Animation

If you would like to own a laser cut Bicycle Animation design please go to www.etsy.com/shop/katybeveridge1. These are not visible with the naked eye, it must be filmed to animate. This is a piece created to question whether it was possible to film animation in realtime. Part of my CSM 3rd year disseration project I was looking at proto animation (really early basic animation) in contemporary design. I've taken a lot of influence from other contemporary designers who are using these techniques to explore the way we look at animation and how its made. As stated on my channel I have interviewed animators such as Jim le Fevre and in my research referenced other people using this technique such as David Wilson and Tim Wheatley who did this before me. I developed this project based on what is being done in animation right now as well as a lot of primary research into the history of animation techniques. Big Thanks to my friend Stefan Neidermeyer who did the sound. The soundtrack is made up of various bike noies recorded during the filming process which Stef then remixed to make the amazing soundtrack. Thanks to Henry Chung (henrichung.wordpress.com Fernando Laposse (www.fernandolaposse.com) and Dominic Roup and their great bikes for making an appearance. My Lethaby

Our University is housed in the Lethaby building, which was purpose built in 1906 as the Central School of Arts and Crafts. In 1989 the school merged with St. Martins School of Art to form Central Saint Martins, as it stands today. However, from September 2011 Central Saint Martins is moving from the much loved Lethaby building to a new, purpose built site at King's Cross, London. In honour of Lethaby building, we were asked to produce a short animated piece that is our own personal representation of Lethaby. As a collaborative project, Heidi Andreasen, Tristram Mason and myself highlighted the grand staircases as one of the more prominent features within the building and focussed our animation around them. Jo Angell - Breathable Felt - Textile Futures MA - Central St Martins

Inspired by the way a pine cone opens and closes in response to moisture and temperature, the petals of this experimental modular textile would open to allow air to flow into a space. When open, the petals reveal a foiled underside to reflect away the sun's rays. The aesthetic for the patterns was inspired by butterfly wings. For more of my work, visit www.joangell.com
