Mountain Hawk-eagle, an endangered species and a bird of prey, has an average wing-span of 2 meters and typically weight about 3 kilograms. It is the heaviest among all birds and considered the fiercest. The eagles are Paiwan people's legendary ancestors, and their feathers also a symbol of nobility for both Rukai and Paiwan groups. According to a recent study, only about 500 mountain hawk-eagles can be found in Taiwan.
