First introduced during the Vietnam War, the M102 was the light-towed 105 mm howitzer used by the United States Army in the Vietnam War and the First Gulf War. It fires a variety of conventional munitions and traverses rapidly through 360 degrees. M102s can be dropped by parachute or transported by utility helicopters for normal movement or air assault operations. The M102 is no longer in use by the United States Army, having been replaced by the M119. It is, however, still in use by the National Guard. It is also used on the USAF's Lockheed AC-130 gunship.

But what happens when you then go for the MOVIE CROPPED MODE where it uses only the central 640 x 480 pixels? you get an extra 7 times zoom. check this video. no in camera cropping or moving of the lens and this is how close you can get with this combo! When you add up all the cropping you get an equivalant focal length of 1176mm! eye ball photography here I come!

The M119 A1 Howitzer is a lightweight howitzer used by the United States Army. It can be easily airlifted, even by helicopter, or dropped by parachute. It does not need a recoil pit. In 1987 an agreement was reached to produce the L119 under license as the M119, to replace the M102 howitzer. It entered service with 7th Infantry Division, Fort Ord, California, in December 1989. Some improvements were made to produce the M119A1, including increasing its extreme low temperate envelope from -30 C to -45C, adding a US digital fire control system, and improving maintainability.The army has renewed contracts for the M119 to be produced by the JMTC Arsenal at Rock Island, Illinois into the year 2013. The M119 is currently fielded with all Regular Army light divisions, including the 10th Mountain, 25th Infantry, 82nd Airborne, and 101st Airborne Divisions, as well as certain National Guard field artillery battalions. It is routinely airdropped in airborne operations and slingloaded under Chinook or Blackhawk helicopters in air assault operations.

I took this footage 9 December 2010, If you look closely you may be able to recognize me. I figured I'd put this up, it's quite different than my usual videos. This is the Cadet Battery at the Virginia Military Institute firing the evening gun during colors at the end of the duty day. We do this every day after the sounding of "Retreat" and before the sounding of "To the Colors." We use blank shells on our evening gun, a Korean War era 105mm howitzer.
