DAVID BOWIE - First TV appearance 1970 - SPACE ODDITY

Although he released an album and numerous singles earlier, David Bowie first caught the eye and ear of the public in the autumn of 1969, when his space-age mini-melodrama "Space Oddity" reached the top five of the UK singles chart. After a three-year period of experimentation he re-emerged in 1972 during the glam-rock era as a flamboyant, androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust, spearheaded by the hit single "Starman" and the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. The relatively short-lived Ziggy persona epitomised a career often marked by musical innovation, reinvention and striking visual presentation. In 1975 Bowie achieved his first major American crossover success with the number-one single "Fame" and the hit album Young Americans, which the singer identified as "plastic soul". The sound constituted a radical shift in style that initially alienated many of his UK devotees.[citation needed] He then confounded the expectations of both his record label and his American audiences by recording the minimalist album Low -- the first of three collaborations with Brian Eno. His most experimental works to date, the so-called "Berlin Trilogy" nevertheless produced three UK top-five albums. The anthem-like, towering title track of the second work "Heroes" (1977) is widely regarded as a milestone in rock and pop. After uneven commercial success in the late 1970s, Bowie had UK number ones with the 1980 single "Ashes to Ashes" and its parent album, Scary ...

Iggy and the Stooges Live Cincinatti 1970

Amazing live footage complete with announcer commentary, Iggy is completely high and keeps going in and out of the audience before finally collapsing in the crowd. You can hear a woman ask "Are you alright?" and he starts singing back "I'm Alright!" over and over again, rising up till he's standing on the hands of the crowd. He somehow gets a jar of peanut butter and smears it all over himself, flinging chunks at the crowd. I think I got this from a music blog somewhere, so please write additional info in the comments

Sesame Street - 1970's opening (show 2178)

I recorded this in 1986 on SP (standard play)mode! I wanted a good quality beginning for all the segments I recorded. The sound is a lot better than my other posts. The audio gets hurt the most when recorded on SLP. For those of you not born in the mid 80's or were too young, VHS VCR's had a speed mode SLP (super long play). I used that mode for all my recordings. I regret that now. This was also a rare episode because the beginning theme blended right into a muppet segment. 99.5% of the time, a street scene begins with the usual harmonica playing Sesame Street in the background. Special thanks to Sesame Street Workshop for allowing me to post this here. All copyrights and profits for ALL Sesame Street segments belong to them!

"SOLDIER BLUE" -1970-1 of 12

Released in 1970 at the height of the Vietnam War Soldier Blue drew parallels with the 1968 Mi Lai Massacre and was controversial for its unprecedented violence and its negative portrayal of the US Army where Native American affairs were concerned. Along with Sam Peckinpahs The Wild Bunch it was deemed by reviewers as the most violent film of its time. Following initial Box Office success it was quickly forgotten in America and its director Ralph Nelson denounced as being Anti-American in large due to the savagery perpetrated by the US soldiers on screen. In Europe the picture was a huge success, obtaining several re-releases in movie houses through out the 1970s and remains to this day a classic of the Western genre. The movie was offered through out the years in several edited for content versions. This version, the Lionsgate American DVD release is the uncensored full version. (Offered here in 10 minute segments of 12 parts.). Its violence by todays standards has been surpassed nonetheless to an unaccustomed viewer this flower-power, seeming romantic comedy western still packs a powerful punch and has the ability to leave its audience stunned. Soldier Blue is by no means a perfect motion picture but I consider it to be one of the most brutal, honest and courageous American films. NOTE: If you can't find parts 5 or 11 see under "Sodlier Blue" I misspelled Soldier and I cant seem to change it back.

This is a commercial of Seaside Heights featuring scenes filmed between 1969 and 1976, but released Quebec, Canada in 1977.
