Join Sandesh Kadur as he travels across the North-east Himalayan landscape and documents the wildlife of the Eastern Himalaya. This is the first in a series of video chapters produced whilst still in the field photographing the region to produce a coffee-table book highlighting the importance of the Himalaya. These short films, shot mostly on Canon HD-SLR Cameras are another outcome that goes behind the scenes and highlights unique stories and difficulties encountered - a kinda behind the scenes look into 'getting the shot'. This short film was shot (almost) entirely on Canon HD-DSLR Type Cameras - the Canon 5DMark2 and the Canon 1DMark4, with a few short exceptions. It has recently been nominated for a Green Oscar at the Wildscreen Wildlife Film Festival in Bristol, UK.

I attended a 1 day workshop in Wellington, NZ the other day. The course concentrated on showing professional photographers on how to transfer in to video making with the DSLR cameras. It was a good informative workshop. We got an hour to film real models, which was very interesting. I very rarely film people unfortunately, I am concentrating more on nature, tourism and video recipes. So this was a learning curve even for me. Here's one of the versions I've cut together. Instead, whenever we give our thoughts and review opinions regarding a specific product, we want those bits of information to be practical and based on real world testing as we find that often times technical software based reviews don't translate to a "real world" difference. So, when Canon loaned us the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV for review, we thought what better way than to take it out to all of our different shoots, and then let you guys know our experience and how it performed. Now, before watching this video, let me preface this by saying that the 1D Mark IV is an amazing camera system. However, it does have its strengths and weaknesses which we will discuss in the video. In fact, the one point that was really hammered during our experience with the 1DM4 was that the most expensive tool often wasn't necessarily the right one for the job. "On October 26th, a hole was blasted in the base of 125' tall Condit Dam on the White Salmon River in Washington. In less than 2 hours, the reservoir behind the dam drained completely and the White Salmon flowed unimpeded by a dam for the first time in 100 years. This short clip is a combination of video and timelapse photography captured throughout the day. The technical stuff: Video was shot with a Sony FS100, a Sony EX1 recording to a KiPro HDD recorder, and a Canon 5D. The timelapse photography was done with 2 Canon Rebel T2is and a Canon 7D. Additional cameras used include GoPro Hero 2s, GoPro HD Heros and a Canon 1D Mark 4. This is the first commercial (to my knowledge) that was shot solely on a Canon 1D Mark 4. I used only two lenses for this job a 14mm f/2.8 prime and a 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom. The majority of the scenes were shot at 720 60p, except the movie theatre and bathtub shots which were shot 1080 30p . Lighting was mostly done with LED panel lights and a 1200 HMI.. For monitoring we converted HDMI to component and fed a 17" Panasonic and looped to a 8" onboard Panasonic monitor. The camera moves were achieved using a slide & Glide and the "gingerbread house" a Skater Mini dolly. I loved using this camera and although it's not geared for use as a movie camera I got use to operating it pretty quick, I will most certainly use it for my next project. Client asked for still's as well which made selecting this camera a no brainer. The Gorgeous homes brought to you by Taylor Morrison. This was produced by TVP under Jack Hattingh's leadership.
