Planaria are common to many parts of the world, living in both saltwater and freshwater ponds and rivers. Some species are terrestrial and are found under logs, in or on the soil, and on plants in humid areas. These animals move by beating cilia on the ventral dermis, allowing them to glide along on a film of mucus. Some move by undulations of the whole body by the contractions of muscles built into the body membrane. They exhibit an extraordinary ability to regenerate lost body parts. This is more or less the completion of my 150G in which the Altum will finish growing up in. I expect to keep them in this tank for the next two years during which hopefully, we will have pair formation. The altum also have names...the big guy is Simon (for Bolivar) who observes, keeping an eye on the other big fella who seems to be the leader of the pack (he's Hugo...guess for who?), then we have Ravell, Granier, Patricia, Marianela (oppositionists who get beaten up all the time!) and a few others...several of the real actors are now living in Colombia or Miami. The spunkiest one is Yaya (in honor of my wife)...she'll shred your fins when the lights go out...to be expected from a Yekwana Squaw!
