There are 27 different trim configurations for the 2012 Volkswagen Passat that include many different engine, transmission, and features package choices. The very base model Passat is a 2.5 liter with a 5-speed manual transmission that starts at $19995 with the 3.6 liter SEL Premium seen here costing $32950. There are actually 4 different engines offered on the 2012 Volkswagen Passat. A base 2.5 liter engine, a turbocharged 2.0 liter engine, a turbo-diesel 2.0 liter engine, and the 3.6 VR6 engine found here on the SEL trim. This motor is a 3.6 liter V-6 engine that pushed out 280 horsepower and 258 lb-ft. of torque. The 6-speed automatic transmission features paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel. Fuel economy for the Passat SEL is 20 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway. On the inside the Passat has more than enough room for 5 passengers. This car fits into the mid-sized segment but it seems there is plenty of space for not only the passengers up front but for those in the rear of the vehicle. The materials and wood trim make you feel like you are in a premium luxury car. The 2012 Volkswagen Passat comes with Bluetooth technology, there is a Premium Fender Audio System available, and touch screen navigation is also an feature that can be added on. 2012 Volkswagen Passat SE This Passat has the entry 2.5L DOHC 5 CYL which is good for 170 HP It's paired to a 6 speed auto. Roomy, comfortable, & clean looking car. Wasn't huge fan of its looks when seeing pictures of it online a yr ago. After seeing them in person, the new minimalist look has grown very much on me. Not a fan of the 5 Cyl engine as it's underpowered for its size considering a normally aspirated 4 cyl nowadays with similar displacement can deliver 200 HP nowadays. It also sounds a bit unrefinedy on the upper rev range but really this has proven to be a reliable engine tho. THe VR6 & TDI models are the more enticing options. For under $20K, Passat is a lot of car for the buck considering its a full size car the decent interior quality / Fit & Finish. Costs just a bit more that the Jetta which delivers opposite impressions.

At 70 MPH / 113 KPH no traffic. The engine is running at 2000 RPM in 6th gear. Mileage runs between 3.2 L/100 and 4.2 L/100 56-73MPG. It is important not to use the cruise control especially in areas which are not 100 flat. First fuel up stated range went from 1100km to 1280km after driving this way for 1/2 hour. Car has averaged 6.1 L/100 so far in a mix of 50/50 City/Hwy. TDI Diesel is truly amazing.
