Boonton NJ Route 287 Emergency frantic repair from Hurricane Irene erosion
The Rockaway River tore down the narrow gorge to the Jersey City reservoir. Where the river makes a sharp turn, the banks eroded to the point where there was a major collapse on the large hill...and the highway side lost the shoulder and the right lane for over 100 feet. Dump trucks are lined up on the closed portion of the the highway to aid in the rescue of the remaining portion of the highway and to halt additional damage to more highway lanes. What a place for Kayaking!!!
