While this is far from a "must have" game on the Panasonic 3DO, Burning Soldier packs some good 'ole cheesy early 90's sci fi space ship action. Shoot enemies in a light gun game without a light gun as you simply move a cursor around the screen and blast bad guys with your space ship. Evil aliens have conquered Earth or Mars or something and it's all up to you (and a friend in co-op) to stop them with laser beams and FMV video on the Panasonic 3DO! Check out some of the early highlights of the tactical RPG Lucienne's Quest for the 3DO. Following their success with Guardian War, venerable developer Micro Cabin was able to finish Lucienne's Quest just before Panasonic ceased all publishing for the 3DO in North America and abroad. It is said that there were only a few thousand units ever shipped to select retailers and through direct sales, causing the title to be one of the most sought-after RPG's on the 3DO today. Micro Cabin would eventually re-release the game (known as "Sword & Sorcery" in Japan) for the Sega Saturn with a new anime intro, "improved" graphics, and a smoother frame rate, but it would never garner the attention or the sequels that Micro Cabin's Princess Maker series would receive there. This video captures the two intros to the game, the title screen, a brief visit to a town, and several of the battle sequences which are still fairly original in its design today. Some footage of Shadow: War of Succession for the 3DO. This game is just horrible. Words alone can not describe it. The control is a mess, and has a hard time accepting more than one input at a time. Want to do a kick or punch while moving forward, backward or jumping? Good luck. And the AI is a joke. On any difficulty, if you try to even come close to fighting fair, it will wail on you like there's no tomorrow. The only way I've ever figured out how to get anywhere in this atrocious mess is to spam the CPU with fireballs. Lame. Oh, and I don't do any finishing moves because they're aren't any. They never bothered to code any in. I'm serious. The only way I even know how to do any of the special moves is because I have an old copy of VideoGames magazine that has the list. They also mention that this game is just barely more fun than passing a kidneystone. That sounds about right, and I know how it feels to pass a kidneystone. It hurts like hell, and so does playing this game. Seriously. I hate this game. I hate the fact that I wasted a CD burning this thing so I could play it in my 3DO... I really didn't need another coaster. Oh well.

Here's the first couple of maps for Doom for the 3DO. This ambitious port requires you to shrink the screen to make it playable. Oh my. I even show how choppy it is at the end of the level by pumping up the screen size. Yes, it's that choppy, even without enemies. And there's even a cheat to make the screen bigger!
