Today we were down to our last 15 acres of ground to be worked up and planted in winter rye. I finally remembered to bring my camera with me and get some 'footage' of the steiger and the 4386 working. The steiger is pulling a 24 foot IH 770 offset disc and the 4386 is pulling a 24 foot IH "Vibra-shank" field cultivator and brillion packer. The ground we were working was soybean stubble.
This is our 1976 IH 4386. The basic frame and cab of the tractor was built by the steiger co, which IH owned a share of. IH provided their own final drives by using two rear sections of a 1486. The tranny is a standard 10 speed used in trucks. It's powered by a turboed 466 with an intercooler putting out about 175hp although this particular one has been turned up to be around 200hp. In this video, it's pulling a 25ft brillion cultimulcher leveling up a field of soybean stubble in preparation to be planted in wheat.
At last I'm releasing some video of the project we had going most of the summer. The 4386 was looking quite aged, so we did a repaint on it, some new lights, and mounted a blade. so this winter is its first time in the snow with a newly mounted blade, and it does wonders! Its a 13ft Leon that we modified to swivel instead of just raise and lower, it took a quite a bit of fabricating and welding to get it mounted on a tractor with as large a frame as this. Not doing a great amout of pushing in the video, more so just packing the snow down. Rather pack the snow insrtead of pile it all over the place, that way it all melts evenly in spring. So anyways, here is the finished product. Enjoy!
