The "mother" of all slasher flicks celebrates it's 50th Anniversary this year. So even though it's early yet, I thought I'd create a cool modern style trailer for it. Aside from the black and white, it holds up much better than I thought. I think the movie itself is overrated, IMO not even one of Hitchcock's top movies. But no one can deny the iconic cultural impact the movie has had, who hasn't heard of Norman Bates? The Bates Motel? The Shower Scene? (with it's heart-stopping score). This...like my trailer for "The Birds", follows modern marketing strategies to make it look brand new. I hope everyone enjoys it, and maybe it will become as popular as my Birds trailer.

Russia celebrates the anniversary of the first human spaceflight on 12 Apr 1961 by Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin as Cosmonautics Day. The Russian Space Agency has invited heads of 49 space agencies and astronauts who took part in space expeditions on Soviet and Russian spacecraft to attend the 50th anniversary celebration in Moscow on Apr 12. Around the world, it is celebrated as Yuri's Night and celebrated with parties. Gagarin was also the first human to orbit the earth. He was preceded into Space by a Russian dog, Laika. The 1961 flight made Gagarin an international hero; he was awarded the Order of Lenin and made a deputy of the Soviet parliament, the Supreme Soviet. It represented a second propaganda coup for the Soviet Union during the Cold War -- the first was the launch of Sputnik -- and it heated up the space race with the United States. Yes, the man himself turns 50 today, March 21st 2009, so I made a little tribute. This video contains his 50 best compositions throughout the years, in my opinion. 50 tunes in one video is a little overkill, but I wanted it to be one video and not ten. All the songs are already on Youtube anyway, so just do a quick search if you want to hear the full versions. Making a top 10 was damn hard, but a top 50 was even worse. Seriously, it was pure torture. First of all, choosing "only" 50 tracks isn't easy when he's made so many great ones. After going through everything once, I had almost 60 tracks that just had to be on the list, and I must have spent at least an hour deciding which ones to get rid off. Then there's the order. With 50 songs of so many different styles and so high quality, it's impossible to make an actual top 50, where the next song is always better than the last one. I think it's safe to say that the first ten are pretty much in order, but then you can divide the rest into groups of five and the tunes within these groups will have no specific order. Of course, it's not completely random either. For example, the first song is always better than the last. Those who saw my Top 10 Battle Tunes will probably notice a few differences. Yes, it's been less than two months and I already disagree with my past self. That's not all, though. Since everything is allowed this time, I can also use The Black Mages versions, and these are some times better than the originals <b>...</b>

Today I have used it as background music to remember him, travelling across diverse moments in his career, laughing with his sense of humor, getting excited with his victories and running together with him. I recover at this moment one of his famous quotes that in a day like this one, in which Ayrton would have been his 50th birthday (34 years living in the Earth and 16 years as legend in our hearts), it receive a special sense: "Every year there is a champion, but not always there is a great champion". Fifty years ago, this Septermber 25, 2007, a high school in the US southern city of Little Rock, Arkansas became a crucial battleground in the struggle for civil rights. Despite prejudice and hostility from a mob of white demonstrators, nine black students attended their first full day of classes at previously all-white Central High School on September 25, 1957. Three years earlier, the US Supreme Court had ruled that racial segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. In Little Rock, high schools were to integrate by September 1957. Several weeks before school started, Arkansas's governor ordered the state militia to block the nine black students from entering the school. The US president stepped in and sent the army to escort them. Ernest Green, one of the Little Rock Nine, had not expected such stiff resistance, especially since some school districts in Arkansas had already admitted blacks. He says about 50 of the 2000 white students began a reign of terror in the school hallways. "In the beginning we had the military soldiers that served as our individual guards and went from class to class with us. After they left the inside of the school mid-year sometime, was when the hostility, violence and intimidation really increased. They began to intimidate those (white) students who tried to befriend us." The Little Rock Nine had volunteered to transfer from a local black school to one of the best high schools in the country.
