Until that launch, NVIDIA chips had the performance crown for the single GPU video card market in terms of performance. One could argue about the necessity of DirectX 11 hardware in 2009 as only one game, Dirt 2 is scheduled to be released that supports it this year in December, but the fact that ATI has launched the ultimate performer WITH DirectX 11 support means that the choice for someone wanting the highest performing video card on the market today really isnt much of a choice at all. XFX started selling ATI cards late last year with the launch of their HD 4890 series. As you might know, XFX has been a long-time seller of NVIDIA based video cards but the market and the economy forced XFX to diversify. Today they sell both NVIDIA and ATI based video cards. ATI launched their HD 5870 at the $379 price point, but that leaves a wide market for video cards under $300. The HD 5850 which is based on the same chip as the HD 5870 but with less SPs and memory bandwidth is less but the performance should be excellent.

CROSSFIRE 2X ATI 5850 @950MHz Q9550 @4.0GHz CRYSIS GAMEPLAY 1920X1080 VERY HIGH PART 1 Ok I included the intro on this one, since this is the first thing I remember running at 15fps on my super duper 8800GTX and I was like WHAT THE FUCK. The first part is easier for the system, since there isn't a lot going on. Second part is heavier. I wonder if my core i7 would do any good in this game. It seems when the battles break out, the framerate drops. Is it due to the increased particles and shaders running or is it due to the cpu having more tasks to run? I think a bit of both. In any case, the game is now pretty playable! Enjoy!

This was one of the more demanding parts of the campaign. My single 5850 did pretty decent. Definitely playable at these settings. Keep in mind, recording drops about 5-10 fps, AND I was NOT overclocking my GPU. How to easily overclock an ATI 5850
This is simple tutorial on how to overclock any ATI 5850 with MSI Afterburner. What you need to get: - ATI 5850 (I'm using HIS model) - MSI Afterburner - GPUTool (for testing an overclock). You can use MSI Kombustor or Furmark, if you prefer them. **** To unlock the voltage box in Afterburner settings follow this! **** 1. go into your program files and open up the MSI afteerburner folder. (c:/program files/ MSI Afterburner) 2. Open the MSIAfterburner CFG file with notepad 3. Find this line: EnableUnofficialOverclocking - change the value it has been set to from 0 to 1 4. Save the file and reset Afterburner if you have it running. *************************************************************** My overclock settings are: - Voltage: 1200 - Core Clock: 1000 - Memory Clock: 1100 THE SETTINGS ARE NOT STABLE! Hey guys, another test video to show ya'll how this game plays. This is really my first test where the single 5850 struggles BADLY during gameplay. Check out the video to see what I mean. I can't play the game and enjoy when it plays like this. Too slow for my tastes but im testing out what I can while the videocards i want for my main rig go back into stock. I was just curious if this game would run normally on a single 5850. Needless to say, I was not impressed lol. This was mostly on MEDIUM settings as you can see in the video with a couple options turned off. I didnt even bother testing everything at max with this computer/videocard lol.
