What I liked: - Having 720p at 60fps giving great half speed slow motion (no interpolation required) - Using the swivel LCD screen letting me get great low angle shots (I would be buried in the snow for some of the snow shots of the kids) - manual Audio control (I dubbed over it but original was great) - Auto White balance in video mode was superb - snow can be a challenge! I did use really good lenses on this footage: Canon 16-35mm L f2.8 and Canon 70-200mm L f2.8 It shows that the sensor is very capable and adding good glass in front really makes it shine. Overall - super happy with the camera :)

GoPro HD 60 FPS to 24 FPS Slow Motion on a Mac
Finally figured out a way to properly play 60 FPS video as a silky smooth slow motion video. Shooting video @ 60 FPS and slowing it down by 50% in iMovie only yields a choppy, slow motion video because iMovie automatically converts 60 FPS to 30 FPS and than slowing it by 50% drops every other frame. Results are poor. However, using JES Deinterlacer, the frame rate is truly slowed without dropping any frames. A 60 FPS one minute video can be converted into a 30 FPS two minute video. No frames dropped. The video in the sample is what normally would be a boring few minutes from a camera flying around on a homemade R/C plane, However, I find it slowed to 24 FPS to be fascinating!

Kodak Zi8 Test 1080p 30fps vs 720p 60fps
I did a quick outdoor test video of the Kodak Zi8 in all its 1080p, 30fps glory followed up by the same shot at 720p 60fps. A surprisingly noticeable crop factor comes into play at 1080p, the image is zoomed in by about 50%. I wasn't expecting that. The clarity of the image is far greater in the 1080p but the 720p gives the expected increase in quality for moving vehicles. Compare the people walking to the cyclists and cars, for instance. NOTE: YouTube limits video uploads to ~720p 30fps, but you can still get an idea of the difference.

Lightning Strike - 60 FPS - with slow motion
I spent 10 minutes with filming a church in focus during a thunderstorm - expecting a strike to hit its roof. It did not, but it hit something in the background. However, the pictures looked nice enough to show it to you. Maybe you like it :) Please note: For the slow motion repititions I have used faked lightning stike sounds. Furthermore, the slow motion pictures were faded frame by frame with a constant frame rate of 30fps. This is the reason why the slow motion pictures look so smooth. As every scientist knows, an electronic discharge runs with almost light speed. What you see in a lightning strike is just the 'glow' of the ionized air molecules within the electronic strike path. This light has a much longer lightning time. The long thunderstrike sound is caused by the non-straight path of the electronic strike to the ground, due to the relatively slow sound speed in air. If the lightning strike would be constantly radial in distance to you, then you would hear a big BANG. This can sometimes happen. Well, for more details you can contact me. ;)

One of my last videos before I upgraded to the 60D. Canon's 50mm f1.4 lens is a fantastic filmmaking tool in the right situation, as you can see here, and the 60fps mode on the 550D (and the 60D) is so useful.
