Classic Game Room HD - ATARI 7800 ProSystem review

Watch in high definition! Classic Game Room HD reviews the Atari 7800 ProSystem from 1986! The Atari 7800 Pro System was originally supposed to be released in 1984 but was delayed due to the market in those years. After the success of the NES in 1985 the Atari was released in 1986 to an un-enthusiastic public. The Atari 7800 has an excellent variety of arcade games like Xevious, Ms. Pac Man and Robotron 2084. Numerous original Atari video games like Desert Falcon and Ballblazer are available for the system, as well as favorites like Choplifter, Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong. This hardware review features the Atari 7800 game console, the American Atari 7800 controller, the European Atari 7800 controller, the Atari 7800 instruction manual and an Atari catalog from 1986 called "Get the Atari Advantage!" The Atari 7800 is backwards compatible with Atari 2600 games and plays the library of 2600 classics like Yars Revenge and Berzerk! Classic Game Room loves the old Atari consoles and collects Atari gear. Check out CGRHD Atari 7800 reviews because Classic Game Room is an Atari 7800 reviewer reviewing Atari 7800 games. Classic Game Room HD - CHOPLIFTER! for Atari 7800 review

Classic Game Room HD reviews CHOPLIFTER! for Atari 7800 ProSystem! This side scrolling shmup style game mixed with a rescue mission has intentionally difficult shooting controls to challenge the gamer to dodge or fire at enemy aircraft and hot air balloons while saving hostages and transporting them back to a post office to be parcel posted home. Remember kids, when you rescue hostages from evil villains you have to use regular mail or Priority Mail, not media mail! Humans do not count as media. Choplifter was designed by Dan Gorlin and originally published by Broderbund. This version on Atari 7800 is not one of the better versions of this fun old school retro video game but still entertaining to revisit (it's my game from back in the day!). This CGRHD review of Choplifter has gameplay from the video game Choplifter on Atari 7800 from 1987 showing the helicopter shooting bad guys, landing on rescued hostages and saving them too! Too bad it doesn't have more than one level! The maximum score is 64. If you want a real score then get another version of Choplifter (like the Sega Master System version). Choplifter! should not be confused with Chopper Command from Activision, they are 2 different games.

CGRHD reviews ATARI 7800 GAMEPAD controller

Classic Game Room HD reviews the Atari 7800 gamepad controller for the Atari 7800 video game console. The Prosystem was not fortunate to get a pro level controller in North America.... however much of the rest of the world was very lucky and got this awesome Nintendo style game pad controller with two buttons and a digital thumb pad. The textured feel fits nicely into the hands and it plays games from the Atari 7800 and Atari 2600 with ease. I believe this is the controller that gamers in the UK, Europe and Australia received with their Ataris. Sucks for us, we got the dreated Atari 7800 US controller. Thie controller worked well for playing games like Xevious, Donkey Kong, Joust and Ms. Pac Man on the Atari 7800 Prosystem. You could also play 2600 titles like Enduro, Mario Bros., Combat and Adventure. Does not work on NES, PS3, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 or Wii.

Classic Game Room - ATARI 7800 CARTRIDGES & PACKAGING review

Classic Game Room HD reviews the Atari 7800 cartridge design and packaging for the PROSYSTEM line of Atari video games! The Atari 7800 Pro System was a masterful gaming console that was officially released in the mid 80's to an un-appreciative market. It failed to sell, even though it was awesome and played Atari 2600 game cartridges as well as Atari 7800 games. CGRHD takes a close look at these unique games from back in the day, how the cartridges were packaged in their cardboard boxes with colorful graphics. Games like Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, Joust, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Mario Brothers and Centipede shined on the 7800. Some games had 2 tone label designs, others like Karateka and Ballblazer had full color labels. Only Classic Game Room would take the time to carefully pan over Atari games with a macro lens to show you the actual details that made these games special. If you're looking to start your Atari video game collection by acquiring a vast array of games this is a video you'll want to watch.

Classic Game Room HD - XENOPHOBE for Atari 7800 review

Classic Game Room HD reviews XENOPHOBE for the Atari 7800 ProSystem! This arcade classic saw its likeness on many consoles including the underrated Atari 7800 in 1989. However Xenophobe for the Atari was not the champion that Xenophobe was in the arcades. Much has been lost in translation to the 7800. It is most interesting to look at the differences between the Nintendo NES version of Xenophobe (from Sunsoft) and how it compares to this Atari produced version. Cartridge and cover artwork is excellent and sufficiently cheesy, Xenophobe for the Atari is more of a collector's item than anything else. Muted colors, awful audio and shoddy gameplay make this game worth missing. It still makes for an awesome Classic Game Room review though. If you collect Atari 7800 games and want to an objective Xenophobe review with gameplay footage then Classic Game Room is the retro old school Atari 7800 reviewer for you. The ProSystem has never been so unprofessional. Watch both Xenophobe reviews from Classic Game Room to see how this Atari 7800 compares vs. the NES version of Xenophobe.

Classic Game Room HD - BALLBLAZER for Atari 7800 review

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of BALLBLAZER for the Atari 7800 ProSystem video game console. Brought to you by the people who brought you Star Wars, this is Ballblazer from Lucasfilm Games Division! This amazing futuristic science fiction sports game for the 7800 features first person shooter style gameplay years before the fps genre was popular. You are a human fighting against aliens in your rotofoil for the title of MASTERBLAZER, the most presigious title in all the universe. Ballblazer was years ahead of its time and it tremendously fun to play in both one or two person gameplay. This old school retro arcade classic video game takes place in the year 3097 as your fight for Earth's honor (just like the Karate Kid!) Ball Blazer came out for the Atari in 1988 and is a Super Game Cartrdige sought after by collectors today. A fun game that deserves to be remade into a new remake for the PS3, Xbox 360 Live XBLA or Wii. Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of JOUST for the Atari 7800 Prosystem! Developed by Williams and originally released in the arcade in 1982, Joust was a smash coin-op, old school video game hit. To this day Joust remains one of the best 2D arcade titles to date and is amazingly fun to plady. Joust has been released on just about every video game console system in history including the Atari 2600, 7800, NES, Playstation and Xbox Live Arcade. There was even a Joust pinball machine! Classic Game Room HD - PS3 vs. ATARI 7800 review

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of the PLAYSTATION 3 PS3 video game console VS. the ATARI 7800 ProSystem. Yes the PS3 is one of the hottest game systems on the market, and yes the Atari 7800 was wiped out of existence by the Nintendo Entertainment System NES, but which is really better? With hot games like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Grand Theft Auto vs. Pole Position 2 and Galaga, this should be an exciting battle. Now the the Bluray and HD-DVD format war are regarded as over, what does that really mean? Does Blu-Ray have a rosey future, or has the real format war just begun? In the PS3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. Wii battle for video game supremacy who will win? Some of these questions are brought to the table in this look from the technical side of things as the PS3. For your hard earned dollars how good is this thing and should you buy it or an Atari 2600? Now that the big games like Gran Turismo Prologue and Grand Theft Auto are upon us, should you sell a kidney to buy a PS3? Or is the Sega Genesis still a better game system? CGR-HD has spent some time with the new Sony monster and has spent time with the Xbox... so let's hear it. Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. CGR Packaging Review - GALAGA for Atari 7800 box art and cartridge

Classic Game Room presents a CGR Packaging Review of GALAGA for Atari 7800 ProSystem from 1987. This arcade classic gets a gorgeous box and packaging treatment given the cost cutting measures being taken by Atari at that time. The Galaga video game has a classy black and silver game cartridge similar to many Atari 7800 games like Robotron 2084 and Xevious. Galaga is cursed with the awful Atari 7800 super duper cheap instruction manual, but whatever... the box art is stunning and makes collecting Galaga a joy for your Atari 7800 game collection.

Classic Game Room HD - KARATEKA for Atari 7800 review

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of KARATEKA on the Atari 7800 video game console system, also known as the Atari 7800 PROSYSTEM. This is a martial arts fighting action game where you are a karate master fighting for your honor (and for a hot babe locked in a dungeon!) This is regarded as one of the worst games on the Atari 7800 and suffers from awful, terrible controls. Fight through various levels and bad guys, use martial arts skills but don't expect fast and exciting gameplay. Karateka is not Ninja Gaiden, Samurai Shodown or Revenge of Shinobi. This is more like watching grass grow mixed with Karate Kid II. Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Classic Game Room HD is a new member of the Classic Game Room family. A more relaxed, subdued show reviewing classic video games from the past 30 years. "Just because the graphics are better doesn't mean the game is better" Galaga is one of the biggest classic video arcade games from the 1980's, and this version on the Atari 7800 Prosystem is one of the best. Is it better than Galaga on the Xbox 360 Live Arcade (XBLA)? Retro gaming at its finest. You shoot invaders from space as they swarm upon you and try to take yo' $#@! Classic Game Room HD - ASTEROIDS for Atari 7800 review

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of ASTEROIDS for the Atari 7800 Prosystem. This classic video game was originally released in the arcade in 1979, this Atari cartridge version was copyright 1984 but probably saw its way to the stores in 1986. Asteroids is viewed as a retro old school classic vintage gaming hit today and is still a lot of fun. You control a space ship in a field of cosmic debris and blast away at it with your lasers in a unique shoot em up SHMUP style that is seen today in games like Geomety Wars. Astoids has been remade many times for systems like the Xbox 360 Live Arcade XBLA, the Playstation and others, and will probably see the PS3 Playstation 3 at some point. Classic Game Room - ATARI 7800 JOYSTICK CONTROLLER review

Classic Game Room HD reviews one of the worst controllers ever made, the Atari 7800 joytick controller. Wow! This sucks. This is what happens when you design a controller on paper and never actually play the thing to see how it works. Granted it has an awesome chrome styled stainless steel ATARI emblem on it, but that's about all it has going for it. This joystick for the Atari 7800 Prosystem is terrible and CGRHD shows you why. Odd design, poor button placement and crappy joystick action result in the losing joystick for a winning game console. If you play Atari 7800 what you need to get is the Atari 7800 gamepad from Europe or Australia, not this thing. Yes it works for games like Ballblazer, Karateka and Ninja Golf... but so goes the Sega Genesis controller, so just use it instead. Fortunately this does NOT work for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PS3, Wii or Magnavox Odyssey 2 retro classic old school arcade video game systems. This review is dope.

Classic Game Room season 1. January 15, 2000. Fight ninjas and play golf in this unique twist on an action side scroller and a sports game, NINJA GOLF for the Atari 7800 Pro System. You are a violent ninja with martial arts movie skills. Fight you way down the fairway to the green and battle ninjas, gophers (aka badgers in this review) giant frogs, sharks and dragons. Your weapons are a katana sword, throwing stars, driving wood and five iron. You don't put really, you actually fight a fire breathing dragon for the final, flawless victory in Ninja Golf. What an amazing fighting game. Be a warrier, be a golfer, be both. This game should be remade at once for the Playstation 3 PS3, Xbox 360 Live Arcade, Wii and the Sega Genesis immediately! Classic Game Room HD - ROBOTRON 2084 Atari 7800 review

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of ROBOTRON 2084 for the Atari 7800 Prosystem. Robotron 2084 is one of the best old school classic video games ever created. You are a loner armed with a laser gun facing wave after wave of Robotrons hell bent on wiping out mankind. What will the year 2085 be like, how about 2086? This game asks a lot of questions and leaves few answers. But it does leave a wake of human carnage in its path. This is a hard shooter, sort of like Smash TV (hmmmm.... any similarities, maybe the same awesome designer??) CGRHD also reviews Robotron 2084 for Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation 1 game console in the Williams Greatest Hits collection and also Robotron 64 for the N64. Do they have a version of this game on PS3 or Wii? On Xbox Live you can get achievements and gamerpoints. Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of DONKEY KONG for the Atari 7800. Nintendo's smash hit Donkey Kong was the first appearance of their leading character, Mario. Although in this arcade game he was actually referred to as Jumpman. On the Atari 7800 cartridge box it does refer to him as Mario the carpenter. This King Kong and Popeye inspired classic video game spawned dozens of successful products like handheld video games, breakfast cereal and a S Saturday Morning cartoon. Do you even remember the days when we had cartoons on TV in the mornings?? Donkey Kong was an early 80's arcade coin-op classic game, now a retro favorite. Nintendo and the Wii and NES have released numerous titles in the DK franchise now and even Billy Madison thinks Donkey Kong is the best game ever made. Now Mario is a platformer franchise money making hero. He's been in dozens of games like Mario Kart, Mario and Sonic, Mario Party, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Mario Adventure, Mario Superstar Baseball, Mario Golf, Mario Strikers, Mario Power Tennis and Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Mario is like Pac Man with a moustache. Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Classic Game Room HD - DIG DUG for Atari 7800 review

"Just because the graphics are better doesn't mean the game is better" What could be better than Dig Dig on the Atari 7800 ProSystem? Dig Dug doesn't rely on fancy graphics or futuristic gameplay to be fun. It just is fun. This awesome classic arcade smash hit from the 1980's is retro, old school video gaming at its finest. Dig Dug digs through the earth to get points, collect vegetables (and roots I think, like carrots) and kills bad guys with a bike pump. Dig Dug is such a great game it could be remade today for the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 video game consoles. You can also pick up a Dig Dug cartridge for the Atari 2600 VCS or get it with an original arcade stand up coin-op machine. Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of the Nintendo classic, MARIO BROS. for the Atari 7800 ProSystem! The Pro System certainly takes this iconic arcade classic video game to a whole new level with vastly improved graphics and gameplay. The differences between the 7800 and the Atari 2600 versions of Mario Brothers are not subtle, and mind you the Atari 2600 version was excellent! So that means that this version really kicks ass! Now Mario is a platformer franchise money making hero. Classic Game Room HD - DESERT FALCON for Atari 7800 review

Classic Game Room HD reviews DESERT FALCON for the Atari 7800 ProSystem! This super game cartridge is an Atari 7800 exclusive. This Desert Falcon review has gameplay footage video showing Desert Falcon being played on YouTube. It is a 3/4 view side scrolling shoot 'em up like ZAXXON, but with many differences. You fly a bird for one thing and can land on the ground and hop. Collect powerups based on Egyptian hieroglyphics, pick up gems and golden eggs for points. Desert Falcon is a SHMUP like no other. Why pilot space ships in outer space when you can fly a bird through the desert and shoot things with arrows? With a copyright of 1987 this Atari 7800 game shows technical promise and many unique ideas uncommon in shmups (for one thing how many shooters allow you to fire at the Sphynx?). The game has control issues but remains so bizarre that it's an interesting collector's item for your Atari 7800 collection. Super Pac-Man for the Atari 7800!?

Yep!! Believe it or not, this is *really* a game screen of Super Pac-Man on the Atari 7800, and it is now one of THE RATHER DAMN BEST conversions ever made for that classic system indeed, in which this whole translation was designed no less by a person known as "PacManPlus" on the Atari Age forums. The original forum thread for this one is right here: www.atariage.com ...where you will know a lot more about the bug-fixes that went into the development of this newest Atari console version, which CERTAINLY blows away the living hell out of the unreleased 5200 and 400/800 versions... plus it is even more difficulty-balanced than ever, making it much closer to the arcade... all the way down to the graphics, sounds, and how smoothly excellent this baby plays!!!! d=^-^=b !! Remember, this is a world-exclusive video of Super Pac-Man on the Atari 7800, in which this entire game will soon be available in true cartridge form officially through the Atari Age website: www.atariage.com ...and do enjoy this most amazing discovery of a translation right here, and do not forget, YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST right here on YouTube!!! ^_~ !!

I picked up my first 7800 loose for $10. Missing its special power supply I mod a Genesis AC jack to the back of it. I still don't have any controllers for it but for $10 it seemed like a steal!

Still Gaming - Food Fight, Atari 7800

This week, PBC Productions is reaching out to fellow screwattack/youtube friend of ours who hasn't been feeling so well. He goes by the name of Sashanein, and he does a program called Still Gaming Review. You can check his stuff out by visiting www.youtube.com/sashanein. He has been a huge supporter of Captain S and PBC Productions since the get-go, and we appreciate his effort, so our little way of saying thank you was to produce a few episodes of Still Gaming for him while he was under the weather. Tonight we release our first installment with Z's review of Food Fight for the Atari 7800. Bon apetit!
