
NVIDIA reaches settlement in class action suit affecting Apple, Dell, HP laptops www.engadget.com This is my Dell Inspiron 9400 in December of 2010. It has an NVida graphics card, and suffers from a known problem. It was purchased in 2007 and sent to the depot in July 2008 again in January of 2009 and again in October 2010. After this video was filmed, there were two in home visits, for a total of 5 repairs in 3 years. Too my knowledge the video card has been replaced 4 times, and the mother board was replaced at least once. First thing I did was boot the computer into safe mode. It was working in safe mode, but notice the blue dots. Next I boot into the normal mode. Please notice the lines running top to bottom. Also notice the commas and other weird characters. When the computer finally does boot, the screen will die despite the fact the power is still on. The same thing happens when plugged into an external monitor Again, this a known problem. More about the lawsuit: Some folks may have long forgotten about the issue by now, but anyone that was hit by those defective NVIDIA GPUs a couple of years back will likely want to take notice -- the company has finally reached a settlement in the class action lawsuit spurred on by the issue, and anyone with an affected Apple, Dell or HP laptop is eligible for some form of compensation. In the case of Apple and Dell laptops, that includes a replacement of the GPU or MCP, while users of an affected HP laptop will actually get a <b>...</b>
