This gun was acquired new from a dealer for $799. At the date of this video production, Colt 1911's, in particular the Series 80, are difficult if not impossible to locate in my area. Mine was purchased from an East TN dealer exhibiting at a Nashville-area gun show. Shooting segments are with 230 gr FMJ at steel targets from 40 feet up to 55-60 yards. This firearm will be used for a variety of purposes on the channel, including ammo tests. I have absolutely no plans to make any modifications to this handgun; the setup will remain as you see it in this video. All shooting was performed safely on private property, in my backyard.

It ain't the best choice in most situations. And yet the .380 is chosen probably more often than it should be for concealed carry defensive use. It remains an underpowered caliber compared to the 9m and especially the .40 S&W. However sometimes SAWC will dictate its selection as a primary armament. Perhaps in the POUs of backup, survival kit option, "T-shirt and shorts," "super carry" gun (discussed), or in other systems where ultra-concealability is needed, the .380 serves well. You are much better served with IT than without anything at all. But in terms of ergonomics, power factor, and especially economy, it's comes in a distant second to a well-designed sub-compact 9mm option like the KelTec PF9, Ruger LC9, Walther PPS, Kahr PM9, and several others. These guns weigh more than most compact .380 options but still give extreme comfort in their carry (the most important attribute which will decide if you have your gun or not when you need it!). For a little extra weight, you get a lot more performance. At 15 oz for example, the excellent KelTec PF9 offers superior ergonomics, sight radius, grip, power, improved firepower, and in some cases better reliability. And yet it's just as thin and easy to carry as most .380s. Look carefully at your choice of .380 as a primary armament. Personally, I do not like the .380 that much as a defense gun, but if it's all you happen to have, it beats throwing rocks. Where the CC .380 pistol excels is as a back up piece and as a pocket gun. I use a whole hog heart, inside Homemade Ballistics Gel for this test. Standard Testing uses 4 layers of Denim on the front of the ballistics gelatin. Denim is used to see if the hollow point round will be effected by material clogging the cavity of the hollow point, thus preventing expansion of the round. The PDX1 hollow point rounds however, are well known for continuous expansion even through denim and other material, so I didn't find it necessary to use any denim in this test. Also, Keep in mind that there is no bone to inhibit the hollow point either, because once again, I wanted to see the Direct Impact of the round on the heart. When a Hollow Point hits bone, it can cause many different results. This is the reason I left bone out. Test firing my two Nagant revolvers and trying out a 32 ACP conversion cylinder, also a breif look at my P-64. The Nagant revolvers in this video are double/single action They can run anywhere from $100-$175 Depending on where you get them After you have shot all rounds of 7.62x38R the cylinder may have trouble moving forward to dry fire due to expanded casings not wanting to seat in the forcing cone, You may notice that when I am out of ammo a few times in the video. Not a big deal just dump out the spent casings. Note when I talk about "fitting" the 32acp cylinder I had trouble with the timing when cocking the gun. The cylinder wanted to jump ahead of its possition sometimes leading to a jam. It took 2 hours of filling light handgrinding and polishing on different surfaces to get the timing right. Some say the cylinder works great with out modification I didn't have such luck. But it works!!! I will be doing more of a review of the P-64 later. This was just a short..... well I guess you could call it a "preview" More Videos to come.
