2012.01.17 - John WARHAM

2012.01.17 - FCC club lunch with John WARHAM Topic: The Cathay Pacific 49ers - A Pilot's Point of View John WARHAM is one of the 49 pilots fired by Cathay Pacific in 2001 who have been fighting since then for damages from the airline for defamation and unfair dismissal. A group of the pilots were awarded HK$58.7 million in damages in 2009, a sum that an appeal court reduced by 75 percent the following year. The pilots will make their case for the last time this year at Hong Kong's Court of Final Appeal. WARHAM, whose book on the pilots was published last year, began working in 1975 as a commercial pilot in Northeast England before realising his boyhood dream, becoming a Boeing 747 captain with Cathay Pacific Airways, based in Hong Kong. As president of the Hong Kong Airline Pilots' Association, he worked with the International Federation of Airline Pilots' Associations on Flight Time Limitations and industrial issues in the 1990s and was awarded an IFALPA Presidential Citation in 2003. He currently lives and works in Hong Kong as a flight simulator instructor on the Airbus A320/330/340 and is an honorary member of the Royal Air Force Association. Airline Pilot Crisis in the USA Part I (How to Avoid Dying in a Plane Crash) Pan Am ABC

HELP NOW? OKAY.Aviation Senate Subhouse Committee 202-226-3220. THIS IS A LIVE NUMBER! Ask why, since Chesly's address, there have been no major initiatives to improve airline pilot quality of life. In flagrant defense of the corporations that put money in their pockets, they'll most likely tell you what they told me, "The airline industry is not a regulated industry." I told them BS! What are all 6000 pages of the CFR14 (Aviation Regulations) all about then?? What about the Air Commerce Act of 1926? Indeed the aviation industry in the USA is one of thee most regulated industries in world history! UPDATE: Against the text in my video, don't contact the Airline Pilot Association (ALPA). When asked to help and cooperate with my channel they responded by not helping at all, even though my channel would only serve to make the pilots working under their association stronger. Screw ALPA. Instead call the number above, directly. It's live as of 10/28/2011 You can actually call Roger Cohen (President - RAA) directly at: (202) 367-1170 The automated system will tell you this person does not receive messages, but wait a few more seconds. When promoted, then dial 1 to reach his extension. You can leave a message for him there. Tell him what you think of him defending an $18000 pilot salary.

Crash of the Concorde

HD - This is a detailed remake of the crash of Air France flight number 4590 from Paris Charles De Gaulle to New Yorks John F. Kennedy. July 25th 2000. We represent a growing number of people who feel saddened and cheated by the decision to retire Concorde early, and there is a lot of bitterness over the lack of Government intervention and the dismissal of various proposals to keep her flying. Our main aim is to create a voice that will be recognised. We already have the backing of the British Air Line Pilots' Association (BALPA), Sir Terence Conran and Phil Collins, to name but a few. Please visit our website for more information and to pledge your support. Our website address is : www.save-concorde.co.uk Thank you for your help! Technical facts about Concorde: Concorde took off at an average of 220 knots (c.253mph), 55 knots (c.63mph) faster than most planes. Dimensions: Length: 203ft 9 ins (62.1m) Wingspan: 83ft 8 ins (25.5m) Height: 37ft 1 ins (11.3m). Only twenty Concordes were ever built. They were owned exclusively by British Airways and Air France. The needle shaped nose helped to penetrate the air. It was tilted down at take-off and landing to allow the pilots to see the runway. The nose tip could reach a temperature of 127 degrees Celsius -- this was due to the friction of the air at high speed. Concorde guzzled a staggering 25629 litres of fuel per hour which led to protests about the environmental impact and noise pollution of the aircraft. Facts about ...

Apr 14, 2012 Canada_Air Canada flights grounded as pilots 'stage sick-out'

More than 70 flights have been canceled in Canada Friday as pilots called in sick as an apparent strike. Air Canada declared the pilots' behavior "illegal" in a statement. The airliner advises passengers to check their flight information before the trip, and provided free ticket change. The dispute involves two key unions, including the one, Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) representing 3000 pilots. An intervention in the dispute last month from Canada's government, that in effect banned any work stoppage, angered a number of employees. It was the third labor disruption of the airline in less than a month and industry experts said the uncertainty could discourage customers from choosing Air Canada during the busy summer travel season. Air Canada, the largest airline in Canada, employs a total of 26000 workers and provides travel service to 33 million travelers every year. American, US Airways Move Closer to Merger - ABC News

n an email to employees today, US Airways CEO Doug Parker said the airline had reached agreements with the three unions that represent nearly 55000 American Airlines employees on what their collective bargaining agreements would look like after a merger. This is an important step toward a US Airways and American Airlines merger, but it is far from a done deal. The three unions — the Allied Pilots Association (APA), the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) — issued a statement announcing their support of a US Airways-American Airlines merger. "This significant step represents our shared recognition that a merger between American Airlines and US Airways is the best strategy and fastest option to complete the restructuring of American Airlines, enabling it to exit the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process and restore American Airlines to a preeminent position in the airline industry," the unions said in a statement. The combined carrier will be branded American Airlines and be based in Fort Worth, Texas, according to Dave Bates, APA President. APFA President Laura Glading said in a YouTube video, "As you know, American Airlines management has made several excessive demands of our contract since filing for bankruptcy protection last November. Not only were their demands unreasonable, but their business plan was uninspired and not viable. My fellow union leaders and I had no choice but to evaluate alternatives." She went on to say ...

Airborne News Bulletin: FAA Administrator, Randy Babbitt, Placed On Leave After DWI

Babbitt Asked For Leave After Informing Administration Monday This was not a good weekend for FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt. Late Saturday night, the FAA Boss was observed driving in the wrong lane in Fairfax City, VA, a mistake that appears to be a costly one as the FAA leader has now been placed on leave after being charged with driving DWI. No accident took place and Babbitt was alone at the time of his arrest. Babbitt, one of the most positively received FAA Admins in recent memory, was released on his personal recognizance after being taken to the local jail and ANN has learned (via the AP) that he has been placed on leave from the FAA. Babbitt, 65, was sworn in as the FAA's 16th administrator on June 1, 2009, and has been highly regarded in aviation circles for his comprehensive knowledge of virtually facets of aviation and a background that has spanned quite a lot of aviation activity... everything from having worked as a CFI to being a Captain for Eastern Airlines, and a past president of the Airline Pilot's Association.. The effect that this may have on Babbitt's future with the FAA is hard to discern at the moment but industry insiders suggest that such a matter, if corroborated by solid evidence, may be cause for the Administration to ask for his resignation.
