Airbus' "Sharklet" wing-tip devices took to the sky for the first time on 30 November 2011 with a successful maiden flight using an A320 development aircraft. This nearly five-hour flight from Toulouse, France kicked off a multi-month test campaign to validate the Sharklets' performance, confirm their aerodynamic behaviour and gather data for certification. Sharklets are expected to reduce fuel burn over long sectors by at least 3.5 per cent, representing an annual CO2 reduction of approximately 700 tonnes per aircraft.

This is what happens when a 230-ton Airbus A330 has the right angle of attack, the right low speed and the right amount of head wind: it gets suspended in the middle of the sky for a few seconds. It feels like it's flying in slow motion, then it freezes for a couple of seconds and keeps moving in slow motion. The phenomenon has an easy explanation: the Airbus is making a very slow low pass, taking advantage of the very strong head wind combined with the minimun air speed and a high angle of attack to achieve lift for its flaps configuration (which is hard to see from the ground). This produces extremely low ground speed, which results from the A330's air speed minus the speed of the head wind. The combination of this ground speed and the A330's size give the viewer the sensation of a plane almost frozen in midair.

This video begins with an Iceland Air Cargo Boeing 757F landing at Stansted Airport, this was filmed earlier in 2011. Following the short title sequence is footage filmed on 24th September 2011, including FedEX Boeing 777 arrival and then another rare treat (I do keep trying to bring them to you!), as Air Asia X substituted their usual Airbus A340 aircraft with an A330 instead, I've included both the arrival and night time departure. The video also includes a fantastic sounding private 767-300 in the form of VP-CME and a FedEX MD11 rounds off the departures. As always, I really hope you enjoy. The world's largest passenger aircraft clipped a much smaller commuter plane on a dark, wet tarmac at New York City's Kennedy Airport. No one was injured. The two jets - an Airbus A380 operated by Air France and a Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet - were towed away after the collision around 00:00 GMT on Tuesday and will be inspected to determine the extent of their damage. The Airbus A380 was taxiing out to a runway when its left wingtip crashed into the tail of the regional jet, operated by Comair for Delta Air Lines and stopped on an intersecting taxiway, whipping the smaller plane around nearly 90 degrees. Air France said 485 passengers and 25 crew members were aboard the Paris-bound Flight 7. The Comair flight was carrying 62 passengers and four crew members. This is footage of a United Airlines Airbus A320 departing from the Eagle County regional airport (KEGE) near the ski resort Vail. This was filmed back in March 2011. I sat back in coach a short thirty minute hop over to Denver. I had channel nine on for the full flight. I listened to all the Eagle ATC then to Denver Center then all the Denver airport ATC.
