Clem Snide frontman (and only constant member) Eef Barzelay has made other artists' songs his own many times before, from Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" to Hank Williams' "Lost On The River" to The Velvet Underground's "I'll Be Your Mirror." When we told Ben Folds that Barzelay would be shooting an Undercover, he said something like, "I can listen to that guy sing anything, all day." When he chose Journey's 1983 power ballad "Faithfully" for Undercover, we were delighted. When he told us it'd be performed in solo-ukulele form, that delight was doubled. It helps that the slightly cheesy lyric is something that Barzelay can relate to--missing your family while out on the road. In part 1 Common talks to Nick Huff Barili about his new album "The Dreamer, The Believer" which he says is produced by No ID, who handled the production of Common's early albums. Common states that although the new album is not coming out through Kanye's Good Music label, he still considers himself part of Good Music because he and Kanye are like brothers. Common address the rumors that him and Nas are working on an album, stating that they were originally going to put out a mixtape together called Nas (dot) Com but that they are now going to make an album together after both of them put our there solo albums. In his book "One Day It Will All Make Sense" Common mentions that early in his acting career he had a hard time getting non-stereotypical roles. In this interview with Hard Knock TV he mentions that his ideal role would be to play a character like James Bond. Common goes on to explain how acting has helped his music. Pharrell says that he is most proud of the fact that Neil Young, Quentin Tarantino and RZA would all appreciate this album. Shay says that its a blend of a lot of things that he thinks this generation will appreciate. Chad, well Chad didn't say much during the whole interview but he did get in a couple classic lines if you listen closely...specially the one about knee pads at the end. In this segment of the interview, the band share their favorite songs on the album, Pharrell Inside a Cloud, Shay: Victory and Perfect Defect, Chad: Perfect Defect and Party People. Shay states that what keeps it fresh after all this time is that they are forever pushing the envelope and that they have creative battles which keeps it healthy. In this segment Blu gives Hard Knock TV insight into his new album and Major label debut, No York, which is going through its mixing stages right now and will be out this summer. Blu states "It's not a State, It's a state of mind, No York state of mind, it a West Coast album with no references to New York" Blu says he has enough songs to make it a triple album and that he is experimenting with a new sound with more of an electric hip hop feel, in the vain of his Johnson and Jonson project. Crooked talks Dollar Story, Royce: Success is Certain, Joe: The Great Escape, Joell Ortiz: currently untitled album but is in works with new label. The conversation moves on to Joell stating that he still listens to the Classics and isn't really inspired by the New Generation of rappers, though he does shout out J Cole and Wiz Khalifa. Joell makes a great point when he says that these days "People are listening to music with their eyes!" Crooked adds that new artists need to do more research on the history of hip hop. In part 1 of this interview Nick Huff Barili asks ‬Slaughterhouse about the new album and if they are looking to make it more introspective than their previous group album, which was extremely lyrical but lacked some of the more personal insight that made them stand out as solo artists. All four members said that you can expect a lot more personal material in the album and that you have to keep in mind that their previous album had to be done in 6 days with a stripped down budget. Slaughterhouse explain how the Shady deal is different than their previous label deals and elaborate on how they see Eminem's Role in the project. While the group says that there aren't full tracks done yet for the album, some skeletals have been built and they have had Jam session with Em. While they haven't had a chance to work with Yelawolf creatively too much they have got a chance to rock a couple shows together which has helped them build a camaraderie as Shady label mates. Nick brought up Joe Buddens' twitter post about Frank Ocean's Novacane song and immediately the group started laughing.
