The Allman Brothers- MIDNIGHT RIDER & SOULSHINE - Live at the Beacon Theatre (2003)

Awesome tuneage from America's greatest rock-blues-R&B-jazz-country band! "Midnight Rider" by The Allman Brothers Band, originally from their second album Idlewild South, released in 1970. Written by Gregg Allman and Robert Kim Payne. "Soulshine" is a song recorded by The Allman Brothers Band and released on their 1994 album Where It All Begins. It was written by guitarist Warren Haynes with vocals by Gregg Allman. The song's title originates from Hayne's nickname, given by his father. Although it was never released as a single, it still remains one of the Allmans' best known songs among fans and concert-goers. When Haynes and bassist Allen Woody formed Gov't Mule, they took the song with them. Gov't Mule performs the song live at their concerts and it was included on the band's Live... With a Little Help from Our Friends, The Deep End, Volume 1, and The Deepest End, Live in Concert releases. "Soulshine" was originally recorded and released by bluesman Larry McCray on the 1993 album "Delta Hurricane," with permission from Warren Haynes. DVD Released September 23, 2003 Recorded March 25-March 26, 2003 The ABB were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Gregg Allman Tells His Story in My Cross to Bear

For the first time, rock music icon Gregg Allman, one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers Band, tells the full story of his life and career in My Cross to Bear, available wherever books are sold May 1, 2012. No subject is taboo, as one of the true giants of rock 'n' roll opens up about his Georgia youth, his long struggle with substance abuse, his string of bad marriages (including his brief union with superstar Cher), the tragic death of brother Duane Allman, and life on the road in one of rock's most legendary bands.

Grateful Dead & Duane Allman - Dark Star / Spanish Jam 1970

Grateful Dead with Duane & Gregg Allman Fillmore East February 11, 1970 Dark Star 6:56 - 7:51 = unknown audience master Dark Star 7:51 - 10:54 = unknown SBD source The unknown audience master used to patch Dark Star is excellent. The second SBD source, supplying the other 3 minutes of Dark Star is mildly inferior to the main source. The third guitarist audible starting about 2:45 into Dark Star and for several minutes thereafter is Peter Green. Duane Allman on slide guitar enters around the middle of Dark Star. Gregg Allman adds organ during Spanish Jam. From "Searching for the Sound" by Phil Lesh: Jerry says to Phil of The Allman Brothers Band on their way to this show: "make sure you check these guys out... they're kinda like us... They jam hard." Phil was startled when he heard Duane's slide during Dark Star... Jerry hadn't told him anyone would sit in. Gregg "slides onto the organ bench" during Spanish Jam. "Peter Green from Fleetwood Mac plugs in just as I'm pulling the music into the dominant minor ... he and Duane seem more comfortable in this space." After the show, "I walk outside -- it's daylight, and snow is falling gently on the streets of New York... I grab Bob and Jerry in a group embrace: This is what it's all about."

The Allman Brothers Band - Don't Keep Me Wonderin - A&R Studios 1971

This was recorded live at A&R Studios, New York, on August 26, 1971 and broadcast in stereo on WPLJ-FM. The objective of the broadcast was to promote their "Live At Fillmore East" album. The show was recorded two weeks after the death of King Curtis, who was a great friend, and a huge influence to the late, great Duane Allman, who also, tragically lost his life in a motorcycle crash in Macon on October 29, just two months after this show. During the broadcast, Duane pauses to reflect on his late friend: About King Curtis - that was one of the finest cats there ever was. He was just right on top of getting next to young people, you know? Its a shame. If yall get the chance, listen to that album he made out at Fillmore West Boy, its incredible, its unbelievable, the power and the emotional stature the man had. Hes an incredible human being". The group was founded in 1969 by Duane Allman (b. Nov. 20, 1946-d. Oct. 29, 1971) on guitar; Gregg Allman (b. Dec. 8, 1947) on vocals and organ; Forrest Richard ("Dickey") Betts (b. Dec. 12, 1943) on guitar; Berry Oakley (b. Apr. 4, 1948-d. Nov. 12, 1972) on bass; and Claude Hudson ("Butch") Trucks (b. May 11, 1947) and Jaimoe (Johnny Lee Johnson) Johanson (b. July 8, 1944) on drums. Duane Allman began working as a session guitarist at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL, and it was there, appearing on records by Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, John Hammond, and King Curtis, among others, that he made his reputation. In 1969 Allman gave ...

Short sets were filmed by the Byrds, the Elvin Bishop Group, Sha-Na-Na, Van Morrison, and the Allman Brothers Band, as well as behind-the-scenes footage of Bill Graham and the Fillmore East staff at work. The Allman Brothers performance is nothing short of spectacular and features the original lineup that included Duane Allman and Berry Oakley. Recorded six months prior to the legendary Live At Fillmore East double album set, this performance captures the Allman Brothers when they were a relatively new band, full of youthful passion and performing what would become classic original material when it was fresh and new. Following Bill Graham's introduction, they kick things off with a tight performance of "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'," which features the band's friend, Tom Doucette, blowing harp over the group's trademark sound. Quite the show. The benefit for HepC at the Beacon Theater here in the Big Apple. Guests at this one were Natalie Cole, Crosby & Nash, Phil , Ron Holloway, Bill Evans, Danny Louis, Billy Gibbons and Devon Allman. Natalie Cole was amazing, David Crosby looked in great spirits, Phil was super on a day in between Furthur gigs, Bill Evans was great on Liz Reed, and Holloway also on the tunes he played. Everyone was on the money. Gibbons joined for the encore with Devon. I hadnt seen Derek with the new beard. He looks like Gregg. Wild.
