Helmet cam: Riding in Les Deux Alpes, France

GT Bicycles have launched their 2011 mountain bike range, which includes 29er hardtails, a new carbon Zaskar, plus more machines for gravity riders in the shape of the new Sanction and Distortion. The Carbon Pro we rode in Les Deux Alpes took both cross-country and downhill trails in its stride, with the 2x10 setup enabling us to climb with ease (even taking altitude into account; not nice) and descend with confidence -- without getting rattled to death by the terrain and the braking bumps created by other riders. Here's a helmet cam video of us cruising downhill on the Force. BikeRadar www.bikeradar.com Follow us twitter.com @bikeradar Like us on facebook: www.facebook.com Email us: bikeradar@bikeradar.com

Off-piste skiers create but escape Alpe d'huez avalanche January 30th 2009

Two off-piste skiers set off an avalanche in Alpe d'Huez and just about get away with it. Viewed from the the Perce Neige mountain restaurant just below Oz-Poutrain gondola mid-station, looking across the valley. Someone who knows the area commented: That slope (the Magician) is one of the most dangerous in the whole area. It's at 38 degrees steepness which is just perfect for avys, is set on slippery grass and faces east, away from the prevailing wind. On that day, the winds had been coming from the south and had cross-loaded the ribs. There's also a nasty terrain trap at the bottom in the form of a deep lateral ditch before the piste. Idiotic to be skiing it then.

Stage that Lemond loses his yellow jersey. Tremendous attack by Fignon at 4 km to summit. Notice Delgado, greatest climber of the 1980's catches up only at the 2 km and cannot contribute to the attack despite being 3min down on time. Drama heightenned by French commentary, even better than Paul and Phil Liggitt.
