Sisters Singing, Nov 8, 2008 - Alysia Tromblay (#2 of 6)
On November 8, 2008, over 400 people gathered in Santa Cruz, California to celebrate the publication of Sisters Singing: Blessings, Prayers, Art, Songs, Poetry and Sacred Stories by Women. Sixteen poets read their work, a dozen artists showed original artwork. The singer and sound-healer Alysia Tromblay performed music, and the Threshold Choir sang. A graduate of Ithaca College School of Music, Alysia is a gifted healer, teacher, singer and songwriter now living in Washington state. All of what I do, really, has to do with a quality of prayer, a way of acknowledging my passion for the Sacred and its ability to transform humanity. Mother Mercy was written as a direct response to September 11th. "black./womyn.:conversations..." will be a feature length docu-film that will concern lesbians of African descent living in the US It will include over 50 interviews with black lesbians of all ages /classes /nationalities/locations discussing a variety of topics including coming out, sexuality and religion, love and relationships, patriarchy, visibility in media, among others as well as a series of short vignettes representing the topics discussed. I'm hoping to provide a film that can encourage progressive dialogue between people on dealing with the image of the black lesbian and the stereotype that come with who black lesbians are portrayed to be. I was singing high notes all day. This was the result. If you listen closely you hear the cracking of the mic sometimes. The mixing was very hard this time, cause the high notes were loud sometimes. I had to tune them down in order not to hurt your ears. So I'm sorry the mix isn't of high quality, but I tried my best. I hope you enjoy anyhow. I love this song.
