About Amnesty International

An official Amnesty International video that they screened at the AIUK AGM meeting 2006. Some amazing footage and a really motivating video - I got a copy to show my Amnesty youth group at our meeting and it really inspired them to get active. I have decided to share it as it is amazing viewing, and I think it will spark the imagination and enthusiasm of most audiences. Rest in peace Peter Benenson. NB: A lot of people have been asking how they can download this video... I might get in trouble for this, but go to www.viloader.net and convert this video into a Flash file which you can download to your computer. Then use the free software 'iSquint' (Google it) to convert it to a QuickTime file. You can download any Youtube video this way, but you need to use a Mac to do it. I didn't tell you how to do this, shhhh. Please use this video wisely - I do not own the Copyright to it, but if it is used to advertise and raise awareness of Amnesty International and human rights abuses then I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

Castro told parliament that the amnesty was being made for humanitarian reasons ahead of an upcoming visit by the Pope. Some of the prisoners have convictions for political crimes. Those found guilty of serious offences such as murder, espionage or drug trafficking will not be set free.

Amnesty International History Video

Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights to be respected and protected for everyone. We believe human rights abuses anywhere are the concern of people everywhere. So, outraged by human rights abuses but inspired by hope for a better world, we work to improve people's lives through campaigning and international solidarity. Our mission is to conduct research and generate action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated. Our members and supporters exert influence on governments, political bodies, companies and intergovernmental groups. Activists take up human rights issues by mobilizing public pressure through mass demonstrations, vigils and direct lobbying as well as online and offline campaigning. We have more than 2.2 million members and subscribers in more than 150 countries and regions and we coordinate this support to act for justice on a wide range of issues. www.amnesty.org

Mentalgassi for Amnesty International

Brothers and Sisters creative team Lisa Jelliffe and Kirsten Rutherford have teamed up with the anonymous German street art collective Mentalgassi, to create art installations for Amnesty International. We've called the installations 'Making the invisible visible'. They highlight the case of Troy Davis, a man who has been on death row for 19 years in the USA, despite serious doubts about his conviction. The posters are displayed on fence railings. Front on, you see nothing but bars. Troy's face only becomes visible from an angle. Please help save Troy from being executed. www.amnesty.org.uk/fence

John McCain Defends Amnesty & Open Borders Juan Hernandez

John McCain has deployed Open Borders advocate Juan Hernandez as the National Director of Hispanic Outreach for his Presidential campaign. Juan Hernandez used to work for Mexican President Vicente Fox, he has dual US and Mexican citizenship, and is a regular guest on major news networks where he advocates amnesty for illegal aliens and the free flow of people across the US and Mexican border. Juan Hernandez worked for the Mexican government as the head of the "Presidential Office for Mexicans Abroad". Hernandez has been a flagrant advocate for giving amnesty, US driver licenses, and banking services to illegal aliens. He is the author of a book titled "The New American Pioneers: Why Are We Afraid of Mexican Immigrants?" where he compares illegal aliens in the US with the original European pioneers on this continent. Juan Hernandez has stated to the media that he advocates a "Mexico First" philosophy for Mexican Americans (legal and illegal) living in the United States! Juan Hernandez advocates the free flow of people across US Borders to "establishing a new North American market combining the US Mexico" Hernandez has also defended illegal alien identity thieves and other illegal alien criminals that have harmed Americans. Mike Huckabee Touchback Amnesty illegal aliens back in days!

This is the video every American needs to see! Mike Huckabee leaked this part of his Immigration Plan on Fox News on Dec. 9, 2007. Since then, he has refused to repeat this information and the main stream media refuses to point out that Mike Huckabee supports a touchback amnesty plan for illegal immigrants where they leave and return legally and permanently in a matter of "days" Huckabee also refuses to list this part of his plan on his website. He has lone and discredited Minuteman Jim Gilchrist stumping for him pushing this lie. Shine a Light on Human Rights for Amnesty International's 50th Anniversary

www.amnestyusa.org Over the past 50 years, people from all walks of life, have joined Amnesty International in order to help win the freedom of tens of thousands of prisoners of conscience, shut down torture chambers, halt executions and establish treaties and laws to protect the freedom and dignity of millions in countries around the world. By adding your voice to the movement, YOU become a force for human rights. 2011 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of Amnesty International, which began with one person and an idea -- to protect the basic dignity and human rights of those imprisoned for their beliefs. In 1961 British lawyer Peter Benenson launched a worldwide "Appeal for Amnesty" on behalf of individuals imprisoned for the peaceful expression of their beliefs. His article in the London Observer, entitled "The Forgotten Prisoners," went on to be reprinted in newspapers across the globe. This call to action resonated with the values and aspirations of people everywhere, and Amnesty International was born. Today, Amnesty International has grown into a global movement of more than 3 million people, united by the commitment to freedom and human rights for all. Now in our 50th year, Amnesty International's mission is as urgent as ever. To magnify our voice and increase our global impact, it is imperative that we join together. Our movement is more effective when we unite in action. Together, we can shine a light on human rights and be a powerful force for freedom ...

In this special episode of Amnesty TV, film maker Chris Atkins blows the lid on UK Banks' investment in cluster bombs. 98% of cluster bomb victims are civilians and 30% are children. Despite the UK being signed up to an international treaty banning cluster bombs, last year alone the Royal Bank of Scotland provided over $80million in funding to companies involved in their production. We want that to stop.
