How to Knit an Angora Baby Hat Part 1

Patti Moreno shows you how to knit a baby hat in the 2x2 Ribbed pattern. This video is closed captioned and available in many languages! Full Text: How to Knit an Angora Baby Hat Part 1 I have made a little swatch here and I just love it. It is just giving me different textures and thick and fluffy there and it is thinner here and it is just going to look beautiful. So, I have checked my gauge. I am using size eleven needles here and I am using the bamboo needles there 16 inches long and these are the type of circular needles that you want to use to make hats, you want to get this 16 inch circular needles and I like using bamboo, bamboo works really well, it is light weight and when you are using anchor it is a little bit slippery. So, if you using the metal needles it is a little bit harder, because it is very slippery, that is why I like using the bamboo. I am going to cast on the 60 stitches and then I am going to begin joining them in around and I am going to make sure that I am not twisting it. Do not want to make that mistake and you will realize you are not going to be able to use it as hat. So, I am going to join it on around and when I join it in around I am going to work in the rib pattern. So, I am going to knit-to and pearl-to for the entire hat, every round and I am going to do that until the hat is 8 inches long and then, I am going to start decreasing and finishing the hat. Now, I want to make it eight inches long, because I am going to have it fold over ...

Garden Girl TV: How to Card Angora Fiber for Spinning and Knitting

Patti shows you how to use hand carders to prepare your angora fiber for spinning. This video is available through closed captions in nearly all lanugages, so share with the world. Subscribe to www.urbansustainableliving.com FULL TRANSCRIPTION I have got my basket of Angora here and, I am just going to grab a clamp of it. I do not want to take too much. I am going to be hand carding the angora and these are the Ashford hand carders. They have a fine needled carding cloth here and what I do with the angora is I just start on the bottom, and I continue moving it across and filling in the rest of the hand carder. Now, I do not want to use too much on the brush here and now I am just starting at the bottom and really transferring the angora on to the other brush here. And, the goal in carding and hand carding is to really line up the fibers together in a row and make them all in a row and make them all parallel to each other. So, that right there that is the first pass. Now, I want to keep doing it again. I like doing it at least three times, so when I have got a good quality fiber to start with, I can get away with just carding it and transferring it from brush to brush three times. This is my second time and as I am going through, I am looking and I am being aware, okay, are there any vegetable matters such as hay or is there any kind of dirt or flecks of whatever that I do not want in the yarn? So that was the second pass. Now I am going to do the third pass and I am ...

Angora Goat - TurkishAnimals DCA

The Angora goat (Turkish: Ankara keçisi) is a breed of domestic goat that originated in Ankara and its surrounding region in central Anatolia, in present-day Turkey. This breed is first mentioned in the time of Moses, roughly 1500 BC The first Angora goats were brought to Europe by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, about 1554, but, like later imports, were not very successful. Angora goats were first introduced in the United States in 1849 by Dr. James P. Davis. Seven adult goats were a gift from Sultan Abdülmecid I in appreciation for his services and advice on the raising of cotton. More goats were imported over time until the Civil War destroyed most of the large flocks in the south. Eventually, angora goats began to thrive in the southwest, particularly in Texas, wherever there are sufficient grasses and shrubs to sustain them. Texas to this day remains the largest mohair producer in the US, and second largest in the world.

Processing Angora Goat Mohair Wool

Design Spun are a processing plant of the goat wool fibre known as mohair. They put the wool through several processes to produce a finished article that is a high quality, strong and colourful fabric. "Design spun processes a wide range of mohair wool through from the young goat to the strong adult, it really depends what fibre is required for what end product. A lot of our production is based on mohair wool, on mohair fibre and we certainly think there's some good opportunities and some good prospects for mohair as a fibre and as an end product as well."
