Archeologists Claim to Find King David's City: Chirbet Kaiyahafa Could Be from Israelite Kingdom

Chirbet Kaiyahafa is one of the most hotly debated archeology sites today... Just 20 miles from Jerusalem, the ancient city ruins sit on a hill overlooking the Elah valley where the bible says the Israelites encamped when David slew the giant Goliath... Burned olive pits put through carbon 14 dating tests at Oxford University show this city is more than 3000 years old...it stood from approximately 1020 BCE to 980 BCE. Professor Yossi Garfinkel is the lead archeologist at Chirbet Kaiyafah, where he began excavating in the summer of 2007. He believes he's uncovered a walled Judaen city that was part of the kingdom ruled from Jerusalem by the biblical King David. It corresponds, Garfinkel says, with the city the bible calls She'aryiim. There are a number of clues that lead Garfinkel to believe Judaens from the Israelite kingdom lived here, not Cannanites and not Philistines. A pottery shard was discovered with what Garfinkel and others argue is the earliest Hebrew inscription... Garfinkel says there's another compelling reason to believe the people that lived here were Judaean. After years of excavations, not one pig bone has ever been recovered, leading him to believe that whoever lived her observed the biblical ban on eating pork. That was very typical of Judaean and Israelite settlements. For comparison, 20% of the bones excavated in neighboring Philistine cities were pig. No graven images and no animal or human figurines were found in the site's cultic or worhip rooms ...

Israeli Archeologists: Evidence Confirms Temple Mount's Construction Completed After Herod's Death

For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ me.lt In The Old City of Jerusalem an important archaeological discovery has been made. Archaeologists are now convinced that King Herod did not finish constructing the Temple Mount in his own lifetime. Our correspondent has more. The common belief that the Roman king Herod built all of the Temple Mount is about to change. On Wednesday, the Israeli Antiquities Authority held a news conference announcing that ancient artefacts, discovered under the Western Wall of the Temple Mount, show that construction of The Temple was not completed during King Herod's lifetime. The artefacts include coins dated to 16 in the Common Era, while King Herod is believed to have died 20 years earlier. [Ronny Reich, Professor of Archaeology, University of Haifa]: "We have excavated the debris, we have sifted it carefully, and found inside 17 coins which could be identified. Four of them date to the days of the Roman Procurator Valerius Gratus. This means that the Western Wall of the Temple Mount could not have been built during the days of King Herod. " The finding did not come as a complete surprise to the archaeological community. It corroborates claims by historical sources saying that construction of the Temple Mount continued for generations after King Herod's death. [Ronny Reich, Professor of Archaeology, University of Haifa]: "We know from Flavius Josephus, the contemporary historian ...

Archeologists unearth 3000 ancient Buddhas in China believed to date back 1500 years

"Breaking News" Archeologists unearth 3000 ancient Buddhas in China believed to date back 1500 years Archaeologists digging in Handan, China have unearthed nearly 3000 ancient statues of Buddha. Researchers in January salvaged artifacts believed to be up to 1500 years old during an excavation outside of Ye, the ancient capital of the Eastern Wei and Northern Qi dynasties. The discovery is believed to be the largest of its kind since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. An archaeologist with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences told reporters in March the Buddha statues could date back to the Eastern Wei and Northern Qi dynasties (AD 534 to 577). Others feature Buddha with a 'knowing smile', while broken full-length statues show the spiritual teacher wearing a monk-like robe. Experts believe the statues may have been collected and ritualistically buried after the fall of the Northern Qi dynasty in attempt by later emperors in an attempt to purge the country of Buddhism. Katherine Tsiang, director of the Center for the Art of East Asia at the University of Chicago, told National Geographic Daily: 'It may have been that some of the ruins and broken sculptures from the past were gathered from old temple sites and buried in a pit.' Others, Ms Tsiang said, appeared to be 'respectfully buried in an orderly way', suggesting burials were done by Buddhists in times of danger. The statues range from approximately eight inches long to several feet high. "Ancient ...

(EURL) cutecatfaith.com France does a terrific job of preserving cool stuff it finds when it engages in works projects such as the renovation of this market in the Temple nabe of central Paris, France. They make a huge effort to share what they find as they are uncovering it with the public, but you cannot just walk in off the street, this stuff is not on the 'net nor advertised at all, they focus on showing the citizens, not outsiders, okay? The best stuff here is set up for locals, so you really need a resident connection to experience the best of Paris and France for that matter. We found out about this only by accident and had to phone in and reserve to be included in a group, and we had to be there on time or miss our free chance to see this quite ancient place, to meet the archeologists directly, and see what is ongoing. Allow a full two hours to get from point A to point B in Paris. If you get there early, hey, go get a hot chocolate at a bistro and use the bathroom! Take a picnic. We plan carefully every week and try to do something cultural and free or for cheap pretty much weekly -- it really enriches our lives. Paris is a gold mine of good stuff! But not accessible! A Franciscan Archeologist between Science and Faith

Michele Piccirillo, a Franciscan Archeologist Between Science and Providence is the title of a book by Friars Claudio Bottini and Massimo Luca of the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum in Jerusalem. It was published recently by Edizioni Terra Santa in Milan. Archeology can be described as a second vocation for the Friars Minor of the Holy Land. As an example of this, disoveries on Mount Nevo, from which Moses saw the Holy Land, are now inextricably linked with Friar Piccirillo, and the site has become an almost essential stop on the pilgrim's route. Much of this book is devoted to testimonies of friends and distinguished admirers of the archeologist, and to a biographical profile, following a preface by his friend and collbaorator, Father Antonio Canestri . The whole enables the reader to gain a clear picture of the life of this Franciscan friar, who died in 2008. In addition, a combined testomony by fellow archeologists is in the course of preparation. A bibliography eanbles readers to trace the archgeological activities of Friar Michele, and it can be referenced through a list of topics which correspond with specific places of interest and research. Friar CLAUDIO BOTTINI Studium Biblicum Franciscanum - Jerusalem Franco Scaglia, a good friend of Piccirillo, has called the work "a labour of love", and with good reason because, you see, it was written by those who loved and admired Friar Michele; who knew him well, and who worked with him. Archeologists Discover World's Largest Pyramid in Lost City of Mirador in Guatamala

Archaeologists have recently discovered what may be the world's largest pyramid by volume under the canopy of the rain forest and buried under dense vegetation. What is more enlightening and significant of the people and culture is what is revealed inside. Inside this Mayan temple are writings depicting the creation story known as the Popul Vuh engraved in a Mayan temple in El Mirador, Guatamala. It was previously thought that the Popul Vuh was influenced by Catholic church after Columbus historical discovery of America. However, these markings appear to pre-date Columbus by more than 1000 years. So how did the creation story and other influences find their way into Mayan culture if it this was originally built in 300BC? What I found interesting is that this single Mayan city is larger in size than modern-day downtown Los Angeles. This new discovery of information correlates with the stories and historical record included in the writings of the Book of Mormon. For one thing in the Book of Mormon the connection to Jerusalem and what is now known as the Old Testament records including the books of Genesis, Exodus and so on were kept on 'plates of brass' and passed from generation to generation and which were considered sacred. Writings on the walls of most temples it is safe to say typically are sacred and considered worth featuring upon such a monumental undertaking as the greatest pyramid by volume known to exist anywhere in the world. This is an example of an extremely ...

Good Question with Tim Spillane: What Are Archeologists Finding At The Sutro Dig Site?

San Francisco based archaeologist Tim Spillane along with archaeologists from the National Park Service are excavating the remains of a late-19th century amusement park known as Merrie Way. The park was called Merrie Way by its founder Adolph Sutro, who filled it with amusement rides used in the 1894 Midwinter Fair in Golden Gate Park. Sutro, then mayor of San Francisco, incorporated the rides into the opening of his newly constructed Cliff House, Sutro Baths, and a scenic railroad around Land's End. Between the Ocean Terrace railroad station and the Baths along Lobos Avenue a series of concession stands offered food and services to the public. The amusement park and its "stands" lasted around 15-20 years before they were eventually dismantled and the public began to gravitate to the flatlands below the Cliff House on Ocean Beach with the construction of other amusement areas like the Chutes-at-the-Beach in 1913 and finally, Playland at the Beach in 1928. In 2011 the location of the old Merrie Way will become the park Land's End Lookout visitor center. To preserve the artifactual history of this early amusement ground, Spillane and Park archaeologist Leo Barker will be conducting public excavation programs Monday through Saturday between May 16 and June 11, 2011. Come visit and learn about the historical archeology of Land's End, or join the work and participate in the study of a part of old San Francisco. Honduras Copan Archeology Trip - Jim Rogers Around the World

Jim Rogers is the author of best sellers, Investment Biker, Hot Commodities, Adventure Capitalist and A Bull In China. Jim Rogers was named by John Train as one of the most successful money managers of all time. In 1999 and 2000 Jim and his wife Paige traveled around the world. Their adventure is documented here in The Millennium Adventure. The Pre-Columbian city today known as Copán is a locale in western Honduras, in the Copán Department, near to the Guatemalan border. It is the site of a major Maya kingdom of the Classic era (5th through 9th Centuries). The kingdom, anciently named Xukpi (Corner-Bundle), flourished from the 5th century AD to the early 9th century, with antecedents going back to at least the 2nd century AD. Its name is an apparent reference to the fact that it was situated at the far southern and eastern end of Maya territory. The nearby modern village of Copán Ruinas itself may have anciently been known as Oxwitik. The site in Copan is known for producing a remarkable series of portrait stelae, most of which were placed along processional ways in the central plaza of the city and the adjoining "acropolis" (a large complex of overlapping step-pyramids, plazas, and palaces). The stelae and sculptured decorations of the buildings of Copán are some of the very finest surviving art of ancient Mesoamerica. Many structures are elaborately decorated with stone sculptures, usually constructed from a mosaic of carved stones of a size that one person could carry ...

Forbidden Archeology | The Hidden History of the Human Race Pt. 4

Foreword by Graham Hancock (Author of Fingerprints of the Gods) It is my great pleasure and honor to introduce this abridged edition of Forbidden Archeology. Let me say at the outset that I believe this book to be one of the landmark intellectual achievements of the late twentieth century. It will take more conservative scholars a long while, probably many years, to come to terms with the revelations it contains. Nevertheless, Michael Cremo and Richard Thompson have put the revelations out there and the clock cannot now be turned back. Sooner or later, whether we like it or not, our species is going to have to come to terms with the facts that are so impressively documented in the pages that follow, and these facts are stunning. Cremo and Thompson's central proposition is that the model of human prehistory, carefully built-up by scholars over the past two centuries, is sadly and completely wrong. Moreover, the authors are not proposing that it can be put right with minor tinkering and adjustments. What is needed is for the existing model to be thrown out the window and for us to start again with open minds and with absolutely no preconceptions at all. This is a position that is close to my own heart; indeed it forms the basis of my book Fingerprints of the Gods. There, however, my focus was exclusively on the last 20000 years and on the possibility that an advanced global civilization may have flourished more than 12000 years ago only to be wiped out and forgotten in the ...

1708 Tragedy Studied by Ukrainian Archeologists

ANCHOR: At present Baturyn is a small Ukrainian town, but some time ago it was home for Ivan Mazepa -- a legendary commander or "hetman" in Ukrainian. STORY: The Russian army destroyed Baturyn during the 18th century. Now archeologists are trying to reconstruct the town in cooperation with the Ukrainian government. [Anna Todorova, Moscow Archeologist]: "We can say that for residents of Baturyn this was a tragedy. The cruelty of Menshikov throws a shadow over the Russian Army of that time, in any case this is our history and we should not reject it." One Professor says Baturyn was destroyed as revenge against the Ukrainian commander Ivan Mazepa. During the Nothern War with Sweden, Mazepa turned on his Russian Rulers, and fought with the Swedish against the Tsar. Experts say Mazepa was trying to use the war to gain independence for Ukraine from Russia. But Russia ended up winning the war, and the Tsar ordered Mazepa's hometown of Baturyn to be destroyed. [Vladimir Mezentsev, Professor, Univ. of Toronto]: "It was not just that Mazepa was a traitor and it was not just a stance against the Russian Empire and the break up of relationship between two friendly peoples. The problem was truly in that Ukrainians wanted the right for self-identification, for building their own nation, and that was considered harmful at the time. Since then all historical monuments disappeared. In the Soviet Union all relics from 17-18th centuries that had been unearthed by archeologists were ...

The Ulpia Eskus Archeological Reserve from the 3rd-4th c. is on the municipal territory very close to the village of Gigen. In archeological terms the town has been researched since the beginning of the last century and the excavation, preservation and restoration work continues until nowadays. The municipality is planning to build a museum and an archeological center in order to make best use of its setting and reserves for the development of cultural, hunting, fishing and rural tourism. After excavations in the village of Gigen the archeologists discovered not only an early-fortress wall of an ancient town, dating from II century AC, but also a lot of findings and information for the lifestyle of the population, that inhabited that region. One of the most remarkable things discovered in the town of Ulpiya Eskus is the mosaic "Aheitsi". In the Regional history museum monuments, findings from the Roman town Ulpiya Eskus and the early Byzantine fortress of Storgozia are exposed: architecture details, colored floor mosaics, sculptures of Greek -- Roman pantheon divinities, golden ornaments.

Archeologists Uncover 3000-Year-Old Wall From Time of Solomon

And the Muslims claim they were there first. An ancient stone wall uncovered just outside the Temple Mount in Jerusalems Old City may be the first structural evidence of biblical King Solomons building in the city, an archaeologist said today. A comparison of this latest finding with city walls and gates from the period of the First Temple, as well as pottery found at the site, enable us to postulate with a great degree of assurance that the wall revealed was built by King Solomon in Jerusalem in the latter part of the 10th century BCE, dig director archaeologist Eilat Mazar said. The six-meter-high wall and its surrounding complex of a gatehouse and a corner tower were excavated over the past three weeks in a dig conducted by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the latest of finds linked to the reigns of David and Solomon. In December 2008, archaeologists found the remains of a walled city over a plain where the Bible claims David killed Goliath, and Hebrew University professor Yosef Garfinkel said the find supported the biblical portrayal of David as a ruler of a kingdom strong enough to field an army. Palestinian archaeologists have criticized their Israeli counterparts rush to link finds to the Bible. The Old City of Jerusalem houses sites holy to all three of the worlds monotheistic religions. NTDTV: Archeologists Discover Tomb of Ancient Chinese Ruler

Chinese archeologists have unearthed a large third-century tomb. They say it could be that of the legendary politician and general, Cao Cao who was known throughout East Asia for his cunning and deceitful tactics. The tomb was discovered in Xigaoxue village near the ancient city of Anyang in Henan Province. It has an epitaph and inscriptions that appear to refer to Cao Cao, Chinas state-run CCTV reported on Sunday. The leader of the Anyang Xigaoxue Tomb Archaeological Team, Pan Wenbing says they found armored clothes, swords and spears believed to be once used by Cao Cao. [Pan Wenbing, Archaeological Team Leader]: "Cao Cao commonly uses broadswords and short spears for defense. We have found six of them in the tomb. The excavation team also found the skull of a man in his 60s—corresponding to Cao Cao's age at his death. The remains of two women were also found in the cave. The Chinese proverb, "speak of Cao Cao and he appears," is similar to the English saying "speak of the Devil. Cao Cao was the final chancellor of the Eastern Han dynasty, who formed his own state during the political turmoil of the Three Kingdoms period. He died in 220 AD in Luoyang, the capital of the Eastern Han dynasty. He was named, after his death, Emperor Wu of the Wei state that he founded. Archeologists Discover Strange Elongated Skulls in Russia.

cryptoworld.co.uk weeklyworldnews.com lovebigfoot.com Archeologists in Siberia have found several elongated skulls in the forest. They're from the 4th century AD The most likely explanation was that ancient communities deliberately deformed the skulls of infants, possibly with the intention of increasing their mental abilities. Pravda News. Russian media outlets have recently covered a story about yet another mystery of the ancient period of human civilization, when archaeologists discovered plates with drawings in South America. The plates or the so-called Iki stones are about 70 million years old. The drawings show people with disproportionately large heads. There are skulls of the same shape in the local museums. But archeologists find the elongated skulls in Russia too, in the North Caucasus. The Pyatigorsk museum of regional studies has them on display. Do those skulls have anything in common? And who started the fashion? A hole in the crown of the head The Pyatigorsk skull was found at the excavation site of the Khasaot burial ground in the vicinity of Kislovodsk, says Doctor of Historical Sciences Vladimir Kuznetsov, the author of numerous studies of history of the North Caucasus. The skull is part of culture of the ancient Alani. Approximately, it dates back to the 3rd - 5th centuries AD These strange skulls appeared at the same time when the Sarmatian and Alani hordes came around.
