That version at the teaser was ok cause I was using a part of the song that didn't have much background music. But after that hell breaks loose and it was impossible to come up with something nice sounding. It was once again that dreadful time when I had to come up with crazy stuff and compromise cause I was working with a song that I didn't have the clean vocals. Time went on and that project just became too old for my current standards but I still was very concerned about it as it was one of my funded projects. That was till I've got my hands on the MR version used in her performance. As I've been emphasizing occasionally in a few live performance videos receiving countless fire and trolling accusations by fanboys, the MRs aren't completely clear of vocals - in this case about 70% of Hyuna's original voice was prerecorded in there. Still that 30% louder vocals that I could get by the phase cancelation method (the difference between the MR and the original) along with my latest improvements in sound design were enough to give me a breakthrough and come up with something way more acceptable than the first version. A flaw in this version that I can recognize myself is that I couldn't get a more prominent bass. The bassline's rhythm and the way it mixes into the song wouldn't allow for that booming "piercing <b>...</b>

Jun, a struggling teenager with his sampled based software sequencer, making stupid beats and chilly, silly melodies. It has been a while I was in need of a standard logo I just haven't found the time to think properly about it. On the other hand I'm giving some effort on my single's release and while http was designing my single's jacket and a logo for my artist name (jun areia) it was easy for her to make one for areia remix too in the same style. So here it is. With the new logo it was also a good opportunity to create a new layout. I wanted something easier to the eye that still conveys the same information. The subtitles are a bit smaller at the bottom right corner, which is not the best option to watch along with the video but on the other hand they are much less intruding. About the remix, Robotaki is doing a more pop-electro remix on this and I know he will do great job so I've decided to go a bit harder. Meanwhile people seem to like the harmonic colours I add on my latest remixes so I ended up doing an uplifting trance remix. It worked quite well on some of my previous SNSD remixes (Oh! and Genie) but of course the quality and technical complexity of this is much higher. I've tried to change patterns in the song a few times but again some points on the original (didn't have the clean vocals to work with so I had to cover the original sounds somehow) prevented me from doing exactly what I had in mind. After a few tries where I wasn't happy with the outcome I gave it a ago down at 140bpm and a house setting. It sounded great so I stuck with that. I used some nice Swedish house like synth chords covering the whole song with melodies powered by my favorite moog lead. Originally the song has a jazzy structure with the verses being 2+1 sections long. That was quite unacceptable for what I was doing - trust me it sounded bad - so I took those +1 parts and I've put them together during the build-up, before the verse bridge. My favorite part is the actual bridge - which I repeat 2 times. The girls' rap fits very well with my settings. I was very concerned whether I should have the lead melody playing or just leave the synths alone. Personally I love the video game like lead melodies so as soon as I came up with them it was hard to just throw them away for the sake of popularity since leaving just the Swedish house synths would probably please the most. But you know what? I was not happy with those simple chords playing all over the song like yet another boring EDM track. After all I'm here to deliver music and powerful ideas. I've been out in Hongdae last Saturday, where Seoulians among with all kinds of foreigners have been celebrating the Haloween. How? By partying of course! The whole place was full of happy people, people dancing in the streets and the clubs were packed with an infinite number of Narsha's Mamma Mia-like stories... Couldn't help it myself to get back home at 11 in the morning, with this rare pleasure that the time and money spent were really worth it. The point of attention (for me), the zillions of sexy girls dressed up with bunny ears, angel wings, dragon tails and all other kinds of cute stuff. Flirting was everywhere in the air and the loud music in every corner and every club created that unique atmosphere that everything is possible. After the first day's experiments we uploaded a teaser and the feedback was really positive. Then we found out about SM's remix competition. Dubstep is not the most popular genre really so normally we would go with an electro house or standard club remix but we already had this very promising work so we decided to keep it going that way. As you might already be noticing areia remixes have been changing a lot for the last few releases. areia remix is not a single person (Jun Areia) or fan remixes anymore but rather areiacreations, a whole team of experienced music production professionals from Korea, to Europe and US, with several releases across a range of labels and genres. Since we started receiving donations at a fairly good rate, these remixes can't be regarded as quick works for fun anymore but rather full scale productions. The price of $50 for a remix of course is symbolic and doesn't represent the amount of work done but still the responsibility and attention is the same as any other amount was received. There are three main parts in this remix. Despite my BSc in audio technology, back then my belief in music production as a career choice was non existant. I was therefore pursuing different job opportunities by studying for another BSc this time in Games Programming. The plan of working at the games industry in Korea was going fine: came here in 2010, studied the language for one year and I should normally be applying at various games companies here at the moment. Something though has changed that: all of you. The constant push for more, better, more exciting, more bouncing, more powerful remixes has led me into spending infinitive amounts of time in experimenting and studying hard. What initially was a quick addition of a kick, hihat, a bassline and a couple of pads and leads slowly became into a process of tweaking each sound for hours and hours till I satisfy my inner thirst for achieving something new, something I haven't done before, something that I've heard and excited me, something that all of you will listen to and be amazed. After three deferent versions I've reached to a point where everything sounded great but I just started appreciating the original feel of the song way more than that dirty loud dubstep drop I was planning. So I gave up that approach and instead I have let the song flow naturally by letting the vocals drive the song; still kept the harder dubstep drums. For the ones that actually liked that dubstep drop I had in the teasers, worry not cause I'm moving it to another remix. Enjoy.

Summer needs emotion, needs melody, needs rhythm. Too much sexiness wasted in the original; the video has so much potential that I'm hoping to unlock with this remix. It's a brand new era for my remixes. I haven't released much for more than a month and this is because I have reached the limits of the software I've been using, forcing me into searching for a new production home. This change has brought vast differences in the technology behind my remixing and you can probably hear that in this remix. I have also reached a threshold were I seek for better sounds and new techniques, making me not being happy with anything that sounds average. I have spent on this remix alone more than 30 hours, creating a range of different sounds and sequences, testing different techniques and eventually erasing everything and leaving only the best few parts that express my emotions. It's been some very hard days for me here in Seoul. Temperatures are between the -20C to -5C margin and I'm without a house for a few days before I move to my new house (of course I'm staying at a friend). Things are going to get much better then since I'll have a nice big room and a lovely new housemate. This remix is done 100% at various cafeterias around Seoul, using my laptop. I tried to keep that sexy "silicon feeling I have in my latest remixes while integrating the harmonic smooth sounds that made areia remixes current. There have been some good things going on lately in Korea, music professional wise and along with the success of my remixes and several requests for DJing I've decided to move the audio thing a bit up in my priorities and upgrade it from a hobby to a potential profession. After moving to the new house I'll start equipping my self with some professional audio production equipment with the intention to raise the quality of my works as well as getting my DJing face out there. I can see all your requests but I hope you understand that the funded remixes need to be finished before I try anything else. There have been a few cries for remixes clear of dubstep sounds so here is a modern electro house track -with a slight dutch feel- similar to what has been coming out this and the past year at beatport and such. I have started remixing this song right after it got funded last August. There have been a lot of versions from complextro to dubstep but I wasn't happy with any of them. So I kept erasing the whole project and restarting from scratch. At some point I got that right rhythm at the drop and I kept improving the sound to get it to the modern electro standards. As my remixes got technically more advanced it started taking incredible amounts of time and effort. Still thanks to your support I'm still here giving my best. Thanks to your constant push there is also something super exciting slowly maturing here in Korea - a realization of one of my most impossible dreams, probably a life changer too. When this transforms into something solid I'll reveal it here for you in the appropriate way. I've release the teaser back then with what I thought to be my best possible audio work. I've kept progressing since then and I made a lot of changes and little tweaks to come up with this version. The total "actual" work time surpassed 30 hours and if you include the listening and hyping this goes beyond 100 hours. There are countless techniques first to this remix, like 03 where I take the actual sound of the vocals delay and I transform it into a melody. Technically this remix is all about that lead sound coming in at about 0 Pitching sound at the sides, trailing reverb at the center. Both carefully engineered and well placed in microspace in order to soung loud and clear. This is the first remix that uses that technique and I'm pretty sure you can listen the difference in quality. This and a couple of other details in this remix are some of the freshest techniques used in some of the top production studios out there. The video is edited as usual with several effects in order to boost the feel. About the actual song and the girls I don't see why this is any controversial at all. I mean do these people ever go out for a walk in Seoul? The girls are been suggestive exactly to what I define the perfect point: the point where they carry all their charm, expressing it in a seductive way but without becoming sluts. Some people might differ in opinion but for me this is one of the top music videos produced for a kpop song for a while. It's funny how this song is out for so long and almost nobody bothers remixing it (yes Robotaki did and it sounds absolutely sweet!). Then Bang! comes and everybody remixed it within a couple of days. You maybe wondering why, but well this is not about remixers loving Afterschool more than SNSD. It's rather down to technical stuff. The first thing is there is no instrumental out for this song and therefore obtaining clean vocals is nearly impossible making it harder to remix as you have all those background sounds that ruin your remix. But that's not the only problem with it; besides a lot of other remixes out there are done over the original songs. The special case with this song is that it uses a different beat rhythm than most pop songs out there, making everything that's put on it sound off-beat. As far as I know, there are only a handful of kpop remixers (recently joined by one more I think) that can do so at a high-level and my respect goes to them as this is what defines music composition for me - creating new sounds and melodies. The others have my appreciation of course as even mashup remixing requires some kind of effort as well. This is another 1-day project, just like CHI CHI. It's far more complex as it's a full composition using only the vocals. Listening to the outcome after this straight 14-hours non-stop work I can find some really nice elements but also some things I'm not really that proud of. For example a couple of ins are quite broken and I have a feeling I could do much better at points - especially the bridge. But here's the catch. The project was fairly complex already. If I didn't finish it today it would probably be one of those teasered projects that I would need 10 cups of coffee to even set my eyes on it. So I've chosen to release it at the state it is. The latest remixes start sounding more like what you would naturally hear at the clubs as they are designed and fine tuned to manipulate and convey energy to the clubber through breakdowns and releases. Thanks to YG for this powerful song and music video to begin with. I'm not of the people to go through and hardly criticize or analyze; all I know is it makes me feel pleasant when I hear the original. The remix started out quite dark but I've tried to move towards a slightly brighter atmosphere. Its tribalistic minimal tech nature pushed to slow builds with reverbs and filters. The vocals are very processed at parts, especially around 4 because I wanted to give that space feeling that the original music video carried with the weapons firing. As for me, I'm personally satisfied due to the intro at 0:28~ with the vocal tail extending while the tech pad is filtered in, only to come to a reverbed cut and fall again with some noise. I love that specific atmosphere, characteristic for minimal and tech house tracks. It just turns me on every single time.

I was supposed to go to school this morning so I got up at 8, got ready then listened to some music. So why watching CHI CHI's music video, the girls told me "Oppa~~~ please remix us". I'm too weak when it comes to Korean girls calling me "oppa" so I skipped school and got down to work. After 12 hours of absolutely non-stop work here we've got the result. Musically the track is pretty simple. I really love the detuned lead and the bass reverbs (as you already know) but other than that there were not many stuff I wanted to do as the track sounded decent with the few sounds I've added so if it works why break it? I took video editing to the extremes in order to project the strong feeling I want to. This is a first for my remixes release at least to that extent. The whole video is completely messed up in order to tell the story the way I want it too. Like it or not that's now my complete product and I personally like it a lot. Other than being me that I translated this song (usually I fetch the subs from somewhere to save time), the next big thing is of course the lyrical translation highlighting. Every English word in the translation highlights exactly the moment the corresponding Korean word is sung. Not having the original vocals or the instrumental (helps getting out the vocals by submitting it from the original) is one thing. But in this specific song everything was there to make my job harder. The bass wouldn't completely go away, the main lead was all over the girls' voices and the claps... bloody claps. After an eternity of manual work I came up with what I believe it to be the best possible vocal track based on the original. Except these four parts: 0:20, 0:26, 1:20, 1:26. The voices are not clear even on the original track so you may find that they are quite hidden in the background in this remix too. If you want crisper voices you are free to break into SM entertainment's headquarters, steal that vocal tracks from the studio and send them to me. I would be more than happy to remix the track all over again :) Now taking the problems out, this is a quite happy song. The girls' voices are excellent and it gave me the opportunity to play around with delay and panning. As I usually say the remix could be different at many points (and maybe better) but this is the version I came up with the past few days. The truth is that it does in many parts but it still manages to project its own personality. In addition its lyrics are simple and easy to understand while still carrying emotion and some good messages. The girls are too "plastic" indeed so whoever has problem with that may choose to skip this song. I'm totally fine with the girls so I've chosen to remix it. The remix has three different modes. The first one is the tribal mode ala David Guetta. You can hear that at the beginning, the end of the song and during the bridge part. The other mode is during the chorus where I use a background dreamy pad along with a sidechained non-rhythmic bass creating a deep house feeling. During the verse I use an electro rhythmic bass along with a trancy pad where I alter it's cutoff and stereo image values in order to create some emotion during the build-ups. I could keep throwing time on this remix by perfecting some parts or altering the sequence but I've preferred to leave it at this state since it makes me happy enough and leaves me with some time to work on my other mixes where I've already altered the sequence (like Rainbow - A and Shinee - Lucifer) I'm trying to bring out sounds that fit my mood and at <b>...</b>

Okay I've said I'm not remixing Japanese stuff anymore and I was so right; once I've uploaded this teaser on Youtube I received a copyright notice and my video was blocked worldwide. But then I came up with the idea of messing a bit with the video and this is the result Although I've been making breakbeat music since 1998 (my trip-hop albums were released back in 1999-2002) I haven't attempted some serious breaks since then. All my remixes are either house or trance tracks with club beats with just some breaks during the bridge at times.
