My University of Central Florida (UCF) Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA) programming graduate students spend 2 semesters making a game engine. In the first semester, they create the architectural infrastructure, including an event system, networking, a language and a virtual machine. (They add graphics, physics, AI and animation in the second semester.) At the end of the first semester, they have to make a simple multiplayer networked text-based game, just to exercise the nascent engine. This video shows what cohort 5 made in Spring of 2009. Anyway, some may recognize me as "Im Da Ruler2" from the Runescape boards, which is why I put it in the video. ASCII code was drawn in Crop Circle at Poirino, Italy on June 20, 2011: A new crop picture which appeared near Poirino, Italy on June 20, 2011 shows at its centre a large seven-pointed star, which clearly resembles another star like crop picture from Lane End Down in southern England during July of 2005. That 2005 crop picture predicted the outburst of comet 17P Holmes two years later in October of 2007. Could another cometary outburst be imminent? Animates wireframes in a 3D coordinate system using only plain text and a few control codes for cursor movement. This video demonstrates coordinate systems with a single point marking the origin, a static cube and a few different animated cubes. The math used is simpler (and less correct) than what real 3D engines use, which results in visual oddities in some cases. The background music is Lambda Fantasy by Foldplop (that's me!) and the animations at the end are a couple of random Quartz compositions I put there to make the lengths of the video and audio tracks match.

This is the first of many DOS demos from the 1990s demo scene that I'm going to share via YouTube. It's called "BB," and runs entirely in DOS! No images, no graphics, no color even! Everything you see here is just text on the screen. Because of the relatively low quality of my capture board, I had to choose a very large text mode that would be visible in this movie format (80x25 in this case). When you run this program on a computer monitor directly, you can run the demo at extremely high text modes (up to dual-monitor 280x120) and see much more detail! This was captured directly off my Cyrix 686MX 166MHz computer running DOS 6.22 on a Pinnacle Studio 700 capture device. Note: I am still trying to get my Gravis UltraSound card to work, so the music was dubbed over after I captured the video. It may be out of sync with the original, but it is the correct music. Also, the video runs a little faster being that there was no sound. But it's all still here ^__^ Stay tuned for more!

The Y-Front is a 3D forward-scrolling shooter rendered completely in the Windows Command Prompt. It was created by The Eccentric Muffins as their freshman game project at Digipen Institute of Technology. The Y-Front went on to win both Best Freshman Technology and Best Freshman Game at the 2010 Digipen Game Awards. The Y-Front is programmed in the C programming language using the Windows API and the FMOD Sound System. Didn't know MSX had a laserdisc player add-on for its system. Wasn't sure if this was based on the movie The Last Starfighter. The graphics and animation are gorgeous for 1984. Level 1- This 2D grid like level part is tough and simply didn't enjoy it. It plays too much like chess. To get past this level, you must move your ship (H symbol) to approach the Orphe (O symbol). It's not always at the same place and if it's too far, it can take a long time. I had to reset this game many times until I finally approached Orphe. You must move your ship towards the Orphe to advance to the next level and the weapons selection screen appears. The best way to pass this level is to follow tracks where the enemy ships are coming from. That will get you closer to the Orphe. A name and password appears is provided to you by the game for you to unlock doors. Be sure to write it down since you'll need it to access the mainframe. I reset the game many times after many failed attempts locating the Orphe otherwise it would have taken too long and too boring to watch. Level 2- This one is very easy. All you have to do is to avoid enemy ships coming from the Orphe. It will get harder if you attempt to shoot them down. Level 3 - This one you must locate the core inside the Orphe and you move through beautifully designed 3D polygonal maze-like structures and still avoid enemy fleets attacking you. Level 4- When you get to end of the maze structure, the door is locked. You can unlocked the 4 locks <b>...</b>
