Sain Zahoor - BBC 2006 World Music Award - Allah Hoo

Pakistani Street Sufi singer Sain Zahoor sings at BBC World Music Awards Ceremony after receiving Award Sain Zahoor or Saeen Zahur Ahmad (Urdu: سائیں ظہور) (b. around 1945) is a leading Sufi musician from Pakistan. He spent his life singing in the Sufi shrines, and had not cut a record until 2006, when he was nominated for the BBC World Music awards based on word of mouth[2]. He emerged as the "best BBC voice of the year 2006"[3], an award that had earlier recognized other prominent Sufi singers such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Abida Parveen. Sain is not his first name but an honorific and is also spelt Saeen or Saiyan, and Zahoor may be spelt Zahur. Born in the Okara/Sahiwal region in the province of Punjab (Pakistan), Zahoor was the youngest in a rural peasant family. He is said to have started singing at the age of five,[3] and from that early age, he had dreamt of a hand beckoning him towards a shrine. He left home at the age of thirteen, roaming the Sufi shrines of Sind, Punjab and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, making a living through singing. Eventually, Sain was walking past a small shrine in the south Punjab town of Uch Sharif (known for its Sufi traditions), when "someone waved at me with his hand, inviting me in, and I suddenly realised that it was this hand which I saw in my dream."[4] For some time, he studied music under Ustad Sain Raunka Ali of Patiala Gharana, whom he met at Baba Bulleh Shah's dargah (shrine), and who became his first guru for Sufi kalams ...

His Majesty the King of Sweden handed over the awards during a nationally televised ceremony. The citations were read by Guðmundur Gunnarsson, father of Björk (sitting next to her in this video), and actor Stellan Skargård. The laureates also received pieces of art specially made for them by artists Karin Mamma Andersson and Jockum Nordström. Björk's citation: "The Polar Music Prize 2010 is being awarded to Icelandic artist Björk. With her deeply personal music and lyrics, her precise arrangements and her unique voice, Björk has already made an indelible mark on pop music and modern culture at large, despite her relative youth. No other artist moves so freely between avant-garde and pop. With her albums and videos, Björk has taken avant-garde to the top of the charts. It was written by Jackson and produced by Quincy Jones for the singer's sixth solo album, Thriller (1982). Originally disliked by Jones, the track was almost removed from the album after he and Jackson had numerous disagreements. The song is well known for its distinctive bass line and Jackson's vocal hiccups. The song was mixed 91 times by Bruce Swedien before it was finalized. Honored numerous times—including two Grammy Awards, one American Music Award and an induction into the Music Video Producers Hall of Fame—the song and corresponding music video propelled Thriller into the best-selling album of all time. Ricky Martin Livin La Vida Loca lyrics

"Livin' la Vida Loca" (English: Livin' the Crazy Life) is a song by Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin. It was released in 1999 from Martin's self-titled debut English album. The song was composed by Desmond Child and Draco Rosa and topped the charts during 1999. It received various Grammy nominations and helped Ricky Martin obtain enormous success inside the United States and worldwide. It is Martin's signature song. The song is generally seen as the song that began the Latin pop explosion of 1999 and made the transition of other Latin artists (first Jennifer Lopez, Selena, and Enrique Iglesias, then later Shakira, Thalía and Paulina Rubio) into the English-speaking market easier. Before this time, most non-Latino Americans had never heard of Ricky Martin until what CNN reported was a show-stopping performance of "La Copa de la Vida" at the 1999 Grammy Awards show, which became a catalyst in bringing Latin pop to the forefront of the US music scene. The song was awarded "Pop Song of the Year" at the 2000 Premio Lo Nuestro Awards. A cover version by Antonio Banderas and Eddie Murphy was featured in the film Shrek 2. "Livin' la Vida Loca" was Ricky Martin's first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining at number one in the US for five weeks and ranking at #10 on the year-end charts for 1999. The single was certified Gold on May 15 and Platinum on June 4, for sales over one million copies in the US alone.

Niceties by: www.youtube.com Synopsis! "Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever" was a 1983 television special produced by Suzanne de Passe for Motown Records, to commemorate Motown's twenty-fifth year of existence. (Motown was founded in January 1959, meaning that a twenty-fifth anniversary special should have aired in 1984, not 1983. One could argue that Gordy's vision of what would become "Hitsville USA" was conceived in 1958, considering the month of Motown's founding.) The show was also co-written by de Passe along with Ruth Adkins Robinson who would go on to write shows with de Passe for the next 25 years, including the follow up label tributes—through "Motown 40," Buz Kohan was the head writer of the threesome. The program was taped before a live studio audience at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California on March 25, 1983, and broadcast on NBC on May 16. Among its highlights were Michael Jackson's iconic performance of "Billie Jean", a Temptations/Four Tops "battle of the bands", Marvin Gaye's inspired speech about black music history and his memorable performance of "What's Going On", a Jackson 5 reunion, and an abbreviated reunion of Diana Ross & the Supremes, who performed their final #1 hit, "Someday We'll ...

Eva Cassidy - Fields Of Gold Lyrics

Eva cassidy "Fields of gold" Eva Cassidy was the third of four children born to Hugh and Barbara Cassidy. From an early age, she displayed artistic and musical talent. When she was nine years old, her father taught her to play the guitar, and she began to play and sing at family gatherings. While a student at Bowie High School, she sang with a local band called Stonehenge, and received considerable praise. At the age of eighteen, Cassidy began her professional career, singing and playing guitar in a Washington, DC, area band, called Easy Street. This band performed in a variety of styles, at weddings, corporate parties, and pubs. During the summer of 1983, Cassidy sang and played guitar, six days per week, at Wild World, in Maryland. Her brother Dan was also a member of this working band. Throughout the 1980s, Cassidy worked with a number of other bands, including the soul and Motown-oriented band The Honeybees, and the techno-pop band Characters Without Names, later called Method Actor. During this period, Cassidy also worked as a propagator at a plant nursery and as a furniture painter in Annapolis, Maryland. In 1986, she met (bassist and recording engineer) Chris Biondo, who encouraged her and helped her find work as a backup singer for various acts. In 1990, Biondo and Cassidy hired the so-called "Eva Cassidy Band", composed of Chris Biondo, Lenny Williams, Keith Grimes and Raice McLeod, and she began to perform frequently in the Washington area. In 1992, Biondo ...
