Following an unrelenting teaser campaign, BMW has officially unveiled the 1-Series M Coupe. Designed to be the spiritual successor to the original M3, the 1-Series M Coupe "embodies the unmistakable M feeling in a highly concentrated form." It features aggressive bumper fascias, bi-xenon headlights (with LED "eyebrows"), flared wheel arches, and 19-inch light-weight alloy wheels. Only three exterior colors will be available and they include Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic and Valencia Orange Metallic. Inside, the cabin boasts sports seats, Boston leather upholstery, and Alcantara trim. Other goodies include a revised instrument cluster, a sport steering wheel, and orange contrast stitching. On the options list, customers will find dual-zone automatic climate control, comfort access, a Harman Kardon audio system, BMW ConnectedDrive (aka internet access), and GPS navigation with an 8.8-inch display. As expected, power is provided by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 250 kW (340 PS / 335 hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. It is mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission which allows the 1495 kg (3295 lb) car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds, 0-200 km/h (124 mph) in 17.3 seconds, and onto an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Well, the car made it to Paris but it didn't stick around for the show. BMW has released these teaser photos of the 1-Series M Coupe posing rather coyly on the Champs d'Elysées hiding mostly behind a black veil. What we do get to see is the wider track this model is sporting as opposed to the standard 1-Series. We also get a glimpse of the air vents on the rear bumper, the outline of the undercover rear spoiler, and the previously spotted quad-exhaust. Under the hood we suspect a twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder (the N54) dialed up to around the 350 PS (257 kW / 345 bhp) mark. The 1-Series M will likely come only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. I spotted a Alpine White, a Black Sapphire and a Valencia Orange BMW 1 Series M Coupé, one for each colour currently avalaible!!! Today I was at Monza racetrack for the Wake Granturismo trackday, and before entering the pitlane I spotted these new BMW M. This car features a BMW M TwinPower Turbo straight V6 engine, producing 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque, with an overboost function that gives some extra 50 Nm: 0 to 100 km/h is covered in only 4.9 seconds. This M looks great in all three colours but I think that the Valencia Orange better explain the spirit of this car: it's a beast, from the outside it is MUCH more mean, aggressive and badass as her big brother M3, and the inside is very race-inspired, Alcantara and carbon everywhere, from the steering wheel to the gear lever...for me the only problem is that it has some hideous seats... These 3 cars are used for the BMW Driving Experience, as also the others 1 Series you see in this video, a 135i and a Convertible version. Last Thursday we spent a few hours up-close-and-personal with BMW's new 1 Series M Coupe, learning about it's design and features whilst trying to assess its credibility as BMW's new 'entry-level' M car. You can read the first of our reviews at www.skiddmark.com Suffice to say that we liked it, but in deciding how best to share this experience more widely, I decided to create a video to provide the buyers-eye view as you would find if you were taking a look in a showroom. For the video buffs among you the film was shot using a Canon HV20 and captured in 1920x1080 at 23.976 fps. The image was fed into a Mac G5, transcoded from .m2k to .mov using Cineform NeoScene which was also used to remove pulldown. Then Premiere and AfterEffects CS5 were used to edit and grade before exporting in H.264 format. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. Music is by the awesome Greek duo, StrangeZero from their album 'Newborn Butterflies' and the track is called 'Ikebana'.
