BNSF Detour Trains 6-23-11

Due to an outage at Minot, ND on BNSF's Northern Transcon, all traffic has been rerouted through Laurel. The intermodals and container trains are being routed over Montana Rail Link and the manifest and grain traffic is being routed through Great Falls. This is an exciting time around here as traffic through Laurel has more than doubled overnight! Last night, I ventured out to Columbus, MT just in time to catch five trains in 40 minutes before the weather forced me in for the evening. Here they are in order: Train #1: Unidentified manifest train, Rapids, MT. BNSF 5314 East. Power: BNSF C44-9W 5314, BNSF (ex-ATSF) C44-9W 659, BNSF SD70MAC (ex-BN) 9424, BNSF C44-9W 4187, BNSF SD70MAC Train #2: Empty Coal train, Columbus, MT. Power: BNSF AC4400CW 5662, BNSF (ex-BN) SD70MAC 9542, BNSF ES44AC 6010 (DPU). Train #3: Z-SSECHC09-22, South Seattle, WA to Chicago (Cierco Yard), IL priority intermodal, BNSF 4012 East. Power: BNSF C44-9W 4012, BNSF C44-9W 4110, BNSF C44-9W 4628, BNSF C44-9W 4833. Train #4: Z-SSECHC08-22, South Seattle, WA to Chicago (Cierco Yard), IL priority intermodal, BNSF 5415 East. *BNSF Train vs Padre Fans (Almost hit) MUST SEE!*

So i was in downtown San Diego CA last week and witnessed a BNSF train blocking San Diego Padre fans from the baseball game on the other side of the train. You will see fans running across the tracks 5ft from a moving train while the engineer blows the horn, daring individuals going under and over the train, and overall crazy senseless people risking there lives to rush to a baseball game. Now what would you do in this situation?

Weathered BNSF Coal Train

Please Read Welcome back to my ho scale layout youtube, not much has changed on the layout, but I have been playing around with the airbrush some more. I weathered my ho scale BNSF intermountain es44ac and my walthers gold line ho scale BNSF green coal porters. I think they turned out great! I no longer have a shiny new ES44AC, so I will need to get another one when they are released. In other news I am still waiting for my Intermountain ES40DC, the release date has been pushed back to december, Id love to see it come in the mail before christmas. My new layout has not been started yet, but plans have been drawn up and Im getting closer to figuring out how it will all work. I plan to have two mainlines. I will use either atlas code 100 or code 83 track. I have not decided yet. I will run BNSF and Norfolk southern mainly, but I will definitely have other consists running as well. I use poly scale acrylic model railroad paints. For the intermountain and walthers BNSF trains, I used the colors "earth" and "dirt", both by themselves, and then a final coat with the two mixed. I mix four units of paint, and then 1 unit of distilled water. When I am done weathering and happy with the final look, I seal it with testors dull cote. *NOTE* Do NOT use any amount of alcohol on the intermountain models, the paint and decals WILL be damaged. Use only soap and water if you want to remove the paint. If anyone has an intermountain BNSF ES44AC that they would like to sell me, I would be <b>...</b>

SOO/CP power on 11R, new SD70ACe's, BNSF, meets and more! Duncannon, Marysville, and Enola

Continuing a May 28th trip to the Harrisburg area: 3:11 PM - Next on our list of locations is Duncannon, a beautiful spot on the Pittsburgh Line, right next to the Susquehanna River, with the NS Buffalo Line across river too. It also proved to host some wild weather today too, as you'll see in this video. Anyway, first at this location is NS 11V, seen headed west with NS CW40-9 9408 and brand new NS SD70ACe 1013 for power. Shortly after, 26T comes east for a meet with 11V, 26T has NS CW40-9 9840 and NS SD60 6708 for power. 11V - Enola, PA - Bellevue, OH Manifest 26T - Chicago-63rd Street, IL - Harrisburg, PA Intermodal 3:39 PM - With some wild weather occurring, NS 20W breezes eastbound with NS CW40-9 9970 and NS C40-9 8877 elephant style. 20W - Chicago-Ashland Ave, IL - Croxton, NJ Intermodal 3:52 PM - Here's where things really got interesting. A quick look to across the river brought a pair of red engines into view. Needless to say I was pissed. Anyway, 11R is seen headed east on the Buffalo Line with SOO SD60 6043 and CP SD40-2 5877 for power. Of course, not being satisfied with this shot, the chase ensued. 11R - Binghamton NY - Linwood NC Manifest 4:22 PM - The Rockville Bridge was the next location that we could get 11R at. He was held at CP Wye for the NS 651 to head west, seen here rolling over the river with NS CW40-8 8360 and NS SD60 6560 pulling empty Coal Hoppers. 651 - Baltimore, MD - Conemaugh, PA Coal Empties 4:34 PM - 11R heads west next over the Rockville <b>...</b>

BNSF 7688 North with Boeing Jets & Windmills

Today has been the busiest day I have seen it here on the Front Range Subdivision. Starting at around 6am this morning, the first of several northbounds began showing up. A first one was a Minnequa, CO coal empty led by BNSF 9186. Our second train was the daily Denver, CO to Laurel, MT Manifest, but with some very nice cargo on the head end. Five Boeing Fuselages and windmill motors make a great appearance on the DENLAU. However, the conductor on the DENLAU noticed added axles to the train, they contacted field support and the dispatcher for assistance. The train stopped at Longs Peak so the conductor inspect the extra cars that were added to the train, but not the car list. After getting everything sorted out and a new wheel being sent to the printer in Fort Collins, the DENLAU continued on their way.

BNSF's Staples West

C. Vision Productions continues its coverage on Minnesotas main lines. Burlington Northern Santa Fes Staples Subdivision runs from Minneapolis to Dilworth. This line is a part of BNSFs northern Transcontinental main from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest. C. Vision covered the east end of the Staples Sub in our program Fast Freight on the BNSFs Transcon and in this program, we tour the west end of the Staples Sub from the terminal in Dilworth to Staples. BNSFs variety of locomotive power and color schemes are well represented in this show. Older SD-40 dash 2s are seen in the old Santa Fe and Burlington Northern colors. The new ES-44s and SD-70ACes show off their new Heritage 3 style. There are plenty of scenic locations covered including the sweeping curves in and around Hawley, the long s-curve at Lake Park and the Canadian Pacific diamond at Detroit Lakes. Trains also pass 3 ex-Northern Pacific depots that still stand along the line today. Add in several charming small town settings and 98 different trains passing our camera, and you have an exciting BNSF program to watch over and over again! High Speed BNSF and NS Trains at WB Junction, MO - 2010 (70mph!)

I wasn't planning on making a trip to WB this year, but with weather looking prime and me thinking I'll never have another summer vacation to blow money on trains, I decided to make the 10hr trip. It was definately worth it this year. I couldnt have asked for much more! Though my videos did turn out extremely crappy. I thought I had the right setting on the camera but apparently not. The blur and jumpiness is awful, and with the camera so light, it shakes violently with the ground (like that 4th train). Train 1. Trailers and containers from the east coast ride train Z-NYCLAC9 at 70mph westbound through WB. The new JBH Intermodal trailers and the Schnieder National trailers on this train were interesting to see. Both companies have made the switch to containers and I thought were completely out of the TOFC business (JBH containers regularly ride as TOFC, but they aren't trailers). It is an interesting shift back to trailers and I'm curious why. Train 2. An unknown stack train from the ports of LA and Long Beach head east over the 40mph connection from the NS owned track back to BNSF. Train 3. The hottest of them all - the Willow Springs to North Bay super shooter flies west at 65+ per. This train used to be solid UPS trailers, but with the recession it was combined with Stockton traffic (the domestic containers and first 8 trailers). Train 4. A solid domestic container train for San Bernadino moves west at 60 plus mph. Train 5. AZ from Alliance, TX is next, one of only 4 <b>...</b>

Metra Cab Car Ride on the BNSF Racetrack Downers Grove Main St. to Stone Ave. part 1

This is Downers Grove (Main) to LaGrange (stone) Okay people. I have been getting comments that suggest that I am the engineer. I am not an engineer, I am a railfan. I am standing at the end door of the front cab car. Since there is no car in front of this one, you see out ahead. The engineer's cab is above me. The end door is where you move to another car and they all have windows on them. Inbound Metra trains use what's called a cab control car. These are coaches with cabs in them. This is so the locomotive can stay on one end and allows for more efficient operation. These videos are only possible on inbound trains because the locomotive will hinder your view on outbound trains. I'd just though I'd clarify for you all.

HiDef: BNSF's Brush Subdivision - Best of National Train Day 2011!

Well I would first like to mention, Happy National Train Day everyone. I hope everyone had a good day railfanning and/or going to special railroad events. Today, me and my dad decided to head far east on the BNSF Brush Subdivision to see what was happening. Thanks to fellow TO Member Kodachrome9319 (aka Steven Welch) for the heads up, I was able to catch the Lincoln, NE to Denver, CO (H-LINDEN9-06A) that had CN 5750 and CN 2141 for power this morning. Finally getting off of Highway 34 and onto Interstate 76 at Wiggins, CO, we headed East. I noticed a headlight in the distance not know what it was. Pretty soon enough I realized it was the LINDEN making good time heading towards Denver. With quick thinking, we found an exit and chased it back West. We managed to make it to the East End of Roggen. The further west we went the cloudy it got. Due to the location and lighting, I wasn't able to get a front shot of the train but did get a grab shot which I am pleased with considering I just went with it. After they cleared, we heard an BNSF 5962 East call up the Brush Dispatcher. We overheard about flags not being displayed near MP 503.2. After that conversation with the dispatcher, dispatcher SRG informed them about meeting a load at Wiggins. Soon enough we headed east to Wiggins. Waiting about 15 minutes, we heard the empty approach from outside of town. Moments later, the coal load showed up and diverged into the siding making it an almost perfect meet with the two trains <b>...</b>

BNSF Barstow Yard Tower Tour HD

Watch in High Definition! Here's my favorite video from our Tehachapi and Cajon Trip. After we left Tehachapi, we drove to Barstow. We visited the historic train station and the route 66 museum. Then, we headed over to the BNSF Hump Yard. Barstow Yard is massive. A yard (now called B Yard I believe) was the original yard at Barstow and is located just across from the Train Station (now seved by Amtrak's Southwest Chief). In the 1970s, the ATSF Railway decided to put a major hub in Barstow due to all the traffic that passes through the area. So, they started building a brand new facility west of B Yard. The facility includes an arrival yard, a hump yard, a secondary hump facility, a massive locomotive storage and servicing facility, a departure yard, and an intermodal inspection yard. Each of these yards is at least as large as B Yard. The whole complex is almost 5 miles long and a quarter mile wide in some ares. Overseeing the whole facility are the yardmasters. In order to be able to visually see the entire yard (minus B yard which is around a slight curve), a tower was built right next to the Hump yard lead. This central location allows the yardmasters to see the entire yard from a brid's eye view. This tower is supplemented by smaller yard towers placed around the yard. When we arrived, we talked to a BNSF employee for a few minutes (who turned out to be a yardmaster), who then offered to let us take a look inside the tower. Once in the tower, we were treated to an <b>...</b>
