Travel Video - Airlie Beach, Irish Backpacker, Australia

Airlie Beach, gateway to the Whitsunday islands has a reputation for being a great place to party, in between sailing trips to the islands. Another must stop location on the backpacker migration up north. Had a ball in Airlie, went out on a boat yesterday to snorkel the reef. The colours of the coral and the diversity of the fish life just blew me away. Thanks to Jetstream for the trip. Also checked out the Barefoot Bushmans Wildlife Park where you can see a variety of Aussie wildlife including a great crocodile show. Tomorrow I go out on a 54 foot Classic Schooner, the Atlanta , for a morning cruise before heading off to Magnetic Island. It's a hard life..... In Airlie I decided that given it is such a big location for back packers, instead of interviewing an Aussie local, I would interview a back packer working at Airlie. "Backpacking Tents" by Nutnfancy, Part 1

PART 1 of 3 ////////////// Sleeping under the stars is a bit overrated for me. Seems the bugs attack, the critters find you, the wind blows away your body heat, frost and condensation soak your bag, then the rain falls, and no matter what your gear gets filthy. A minimalist tent tarp, bivy, or floor-less tent are some ways to avoid to some of those hassles. But my favorite option is a quality designed and constructed lightweight backpacking tent like the ones profiled in this Nutnfancy series of videos. Here I cover most of the design aspects and experience-based opinions on just such a tent. POUs, Firepower vs Mobility, Impact, Livability concerns, Longevity, Ventialtion, Maintenance, Sleeve and Pole Construction, Fabric Choices, Convenience Features, and buying sources are all covered in the series. It would be unrealistic and probably of limited use for me to review certain models since most are so shortlived in the marketplace. Instead I use category representatives and teach the features, construction, sizing, and the many considerations to arm the buyer with the knowledge to make the best purchase choice. Always buy out-of-season whenever possible to save big money; it's very possible to get a ultra-quality BP tent this way for well under $200. Take care of it and it will serve you and your family forever too. Location was the scenic and beautiful Rocky Mountains with Allie the Mountain Dog in tow. Backpacker Magazine Pot Idea Test 2

In this video I do a re-test of Lab0183, on an idea I found in the August 2011 issue of Backpacker Magazine. There was an article on page 26 about "Ultralight Makeover". In the article it was suggested to, "Start by painting the bottom of all silver pots with flat black Rust-Oleum stove paint, which boosts efficiency by 30 to 40 percent". Frankly this goes against everything I learned from my Scoutmaster many, many year ago. He drummed it into us that our pots and pans should always be clean and shiny. I'm doing a re-test mostly because I had a number of people e-mail me and say that I wasn't doing a fair test because I didn't use Rust-Oleum paint as was mentioned in the article. So what I did was strip the old black paint off the pot and repaint with Rust-Oleum flat black paint. This re-test is in two parts. Because I got a bunch of requests to use a propane stove the first part is with my Northern Lights stove and the second part is back using the Trangia stove. After sanding the old paint off the pot I re-tested it without paint using both stoves to get a new baseline time. Again I look forward to input on this. India backpacker

HOW CAN I MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN TRANSFORMING INDIA This is a hard hitting question to be answered by each and every Indian worth his salt. I was just thinking whether I have contributed enough to the progress of this great nation during my last 25 years of my professional career. Except for few donations for some charitable causes here and there, which includes for victims of Tsunami tragedy. I must admit that I have done precious little to transform my fatherland. (tribute to my dad who passed away in 1996 ). I firmly believe that Tourism being the worlds biggest industry, we as Indians have got a miniscule contribution of the benefits. How are we going to unleash the tourist potential is a big rider to all the planners. Tourists are easily attracted towards the TAJ, KHAJURAHO, RED FORT, DAL LAKE, KOVALAM, CALANGUTE, HAMPI, MYSORE PALACE, AJANTA, ELLORA, etc which are very popular and some of them have attained the world heritage status too. This adds up to the migration of populace towards these destinations leaving other destinations in India go unnoticed. What about the relatively unknown destinations such as Aihole, Badami, Chitradurga Fort ( Kalline Kote), Gol Gomuz, Rouza Mosque, Alampur, Sirsailam, Yaganti, Ketavaram cave paintings, Bekal Fort, St Angelo Fort, St Francis Church, Srirangam temple, Padmanabpuram Palace, Vivekananda Ashram, Vattakotai & St. Marys Isle. The only major requirement from the govt. side is to have proper road access to all the tourist ...

Backpacking The Gila Wilderness

The Gila Wilderness (pronounced: HEE-La) was designated the world's first wilderness area on June 3, 1924. Along with Aldo Leopold Wilderness and Blue Range Wilderness, the 558014 acres (2258.2 km2) wilderness is part of New Mexico's Gila National Forest. The wilderness is approximately 27 miles (43 km) from north to south and 39 miles (63 km) east to west. The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument is found within the wilderness. The Gila Wilderness is located in southwest New Mexico, north of Silver City and wrapping around Reserve. It contains the West Fork, Middle Fork and much of the East Fork of the Gila River; riverside elevations of around 5000 ft (1500 m) are the lowest in the wilderness. The Mogollon Mountains traverse an arc across the southwest of the wilderness. The tallest peak within this range, Whitewater Baldy at 10895 ft (3321 m), anchors the western point of the wilderness. At the northeast corner is Black Mountain at 9287 ft (2831 m). This video shows the the first quarter of the 42 mile Middle Fork Trail #142. The stream crosses the trail an average of 6x / mile... prepare to get your feet wet!
