Cory Arcangel: Beat the Champ at Barbican

An exciting installation in Barbican's The Curve gallery by Brooklyn-based media artist Cory Arcangel. It features a selection of bowling video games from the 1970s to the 2000s. Salsa Dura band La Excelencia rockin' Barbican Hall in London

After an amazing concert on January 24th at the famous Barbican Hall in London, La Excelencia ended with a Rumba in the crowd. One of the best concerts I've seen in years, if you can get 1800 seated people on their feet and dancing between the chairs. Felt sorry for the actual headliner of the evening, the Big 3 with famous special guests such as Larry Harlow and Jimmy Bosch, who performed after them, cause this is real salsa of the 21st century coming out of New York, not doing covers from the old days, a new salsa generation, and it's called LA EXCELENCIA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Circa - 9 - 14 Mar | Barbican Theatre

Circa 9-14 Mar | Barbican Theatre www.barbican.org.uk This is movement at its most adventurous and dangerous as seven performers move from highly connected acrobatic and tumbling sequences to fast-paced moments of great intricacy where precision and timing are everything. Circa's signature style combines physical beauty, formidable circus skills and an immersive and integral use of sound, light and projection. The result is a new kind of circus, at once poetic, sensual and immense.

Ravi Shankar - Concert in London Barbican 2011

For this last number Ravi said he didn't know just what he would play, but he would start in Khamaj and let a ragamala develop. At the end he would do a new thing. He gave it a name I didn't quite catch, something like "Bhava Chandra" and said it was a new way of creating rhythmic patterns. He didn't know if we would like it, but he found it fun. After the promised ragamala, which was melodically and rhythmically playful, it transpired this was much percussive play on the sitar with a cloth, the sort often used between arm and tumba, laid under the strings to disable the jawari and muffle the sound. This was followed by a concluding jhalla, Ravi still had the energy but Parimal Sadaphal carried most of the load.
Peter Henderson and The Barbican Centre - a certain beauty

Peter Henderson is a remarkable young writer from London who has earned respect from people like fashion designer Raf Simons and thecoolhunter.net through his blog Hapsical. Henderson started out covering fashion but soon began writing also about architecture, art and design. His blog can be found here: Hapsical (hapsical.blogspot.com For The Avant/Garde Diaries he shared his view on the controversial Barbican compound in London's financial district. The massive pile of concrete is an artifact of the brutalist architecture movement of the 50s, 60s and 70s that became a symbol of socialist utopian ideology. Henderson walked us through the strangely compound, explaining its bizarre beauty and the architects' avant-garde approach.

Over 15minutes... What an amazing performance, a sold out Barbican standing up and dancing....1800 people loving it.
