Barnet (4-3p) Nottingham Forest - WPL Cup Final 2011

FATV brings exclusive highlights of the grand finale to the Women's Premier League season. Barnet won a penalty shoot-out 4-3 at Adams Park to lift the Women's Premier League Cup on Thursday despite being down to 10 players for almost an hour. Stacey Sowden was sent off in the 67th minute for kicking at Carla Tomkins but her side kept out Nottingham Forest and the final ended 0-0 after extra time. With both sides playing in their first final, a new name is now on the trophy. Barnet manager Tracey Kevins said: "The players are not surprised to win, it's just how they've done it. "Going down to 10 players and then through extra time and on penalties, I knew it was going to be an uphill battle, but I also knew my players were fitter. "'Barnet Running Club' the players call themselves because of the training we do. I knew it would go to penalties, and so we had studied and prepared for it. Preparation is the key."

Greener Pastures EP3 Free ride featuring john barnet

In the search to find the most challenging roads in switzerland, EP3 highlights the supreme variety found, but on one hill. oh yeah, and a gondola to the top! While free riding , a multitude of things can capture your focus, ie, position of other riders, rough pavement, vehicles, guard rails, debris, what's for lunch, etc. Focus and comfort in ones riding comes when these thoughts are subdued, when one finds their 'flow'. In EP3 the riders talk about their experiences with accidents and injuries. The message is simple. Being attune to the dangers involved in a situation will lower the risk. Riders sacrifice so much for their lifestyle which is important to them. As samy cantieni states " i would never trade anything for all i have lived through, thanks to skateboarding. " By this point the greener pastures crew had become more comfortable riding close together, with the european style of road construction, the pavement and what we as a group felt this project represents. Meet Will Barnet

Will Barnet studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, then moved to New York in 1930 to attend the Art Students League. After his first son was born, Barnet began a series of paintings that show scenes of family life. He experimented with abstraction for several years, aiming to "eliminate realistic space" in favor of simple geometric forms. His later work is more representational and focuses almost entirely on the female form. ("Will Barnet, Works of Six Decades," American Art Review, June-July 1994)

Will Barnet, Artist, at 99 - NJN's State Of The Arts

Born in 1911, artist Will Barnet continues to create new works, even while preparing to celebrate his 100th birthday. Barnet is represented in virtually every major public collection in the United States, and is known for work that depicts human figures and animals in daily scenes that verge on the dreamlike. From the 1930s to now, his work has varied in style from the representative to the abstract. STATE OF THE ARTS producer Susan Wallner meets the artist in his studio, and talks to his son and sometimes curator, artist and Montclair State University professor Peter Barnet. Barnet UNISON bringing Skills for Life to Barnet

On 12 February 2007 Barnet UNISON and Barnet Council held a Skills for Life Open day and and received the National GO Award. Although awards can be seen as tick box awards with little or no impact on staff in this case I would have to disagree. The impact on Learners lives both at work and at home has truly been 'Life Changing'. Since we signed our Learning Agreement in October 2005, Life Long Learning has been at the heart of our branch activities. Within four weeks of the signing the agreement we had an IT suite for staff to start our Return2learn courses. From January to July 2006 we ran 10 courses for almost 150 staff working down our depot. For some staff it was the first time a Trade Union had really spent any time with them. This January 2007 the programme of courses has started again with two school staff courses starting, an ESOL course for staff working for the local cleaning contractors and one course for Housing 21 (Home Care provider). The team of ULRs under the leadership of our Life Long Learning Coordinator (Carmen Bruno) have managed to spread the message of Life Long Learning across the Council and the Council's business partners. The GO Award and the National ULR award mark a new stage in the development of Life Long Learning in Barnet. Usually when an organisation signs up for GO Award, they have 6 months to develop an Action Plan, which if approved means achieving the GO Award. In Barnet we signed up and achieved the GO Award all on the same day. It ...
At 99, artist Will Barnet is still a painter of his own school

At 99, printmaker and painter Will Barnet has lived through every major artistic school in modern American art. He can remember watching John Singer Sergeant paint murals on the ceiling of the Boston Public Library in the 1920s, and being the printmaker in New York for Mexican muralist José Clemente Orozco. He remembers the explosion of Abstract Expressionism that would come to define the so-called New York School of artists. As a printmaker and art teacher at the Art Students League for 45 years, Barnet, who will turn 100 in May, taught the likes of Eva Hesse, Cy Twombly and Mark Rothko. But just as he did when he came to New York as a 19-year-old nobody, Will Barnet paints in his studio at the National Arts Club in Manhattan every day. His son, artist Peter Barnet, 72, of Maplewood, continues his father's tradition of teaching by heading the painting department at Montclair State University. (Video by Nyier Abdou/The Star-Ledger

Here you can see a wind up V-Disc player in action: www.youtube.com Here you can listen to the history of the V-Disc´s: www.youtube.com V-Disc was a record label produced during the World War II era by special arrangement between the United States government and various private US record companies. The records were produced for use of United States military personnel overseas. Many popular singers, big bands and orchestras of the era recorded special V-Disc records. These 12-inch, 78 rpm recordings were made between 1943 and 1949. The "V" stands for "Victory". The American Federation of Musicians, under the leadership of James Caesar Petrillo, were involved in a major recording strike against the four major record companies. No new recordings between 1942 and 1944! Lieutenant George Vincent (a ex Edison empoyee) convinced Petrillo to allow his union musicians to record sides for the military, as long as the records were not offered for purchase in the United States. The V-Discs were an instant hit overseas. Soldiers who were tired of hearing the same old recordings were treated to new and special releases from the top bands of the day.
