"Combative Baton Intro" with OJ & Nutnfancy
The telescoping, impact baton is still one of my favorite non-lethal self-defense tools. In competent hands it transforms from it compat carry form into a formidable weapon. However skill, timing, speed, and footwork are required to employ it correctly. And all those things take practice and a high fitness level for greatest effectiveness. Enter OfficeJared or OJ (www.youtube.com/user/officerjared), TNP Crewmember and long-time worldwide combative arts instructor. His instructional services are in demand all over the world and he stays busy with both police and military audiences. His style is balanced and he spends equal time with staff, knife, and baton in his training and instruction. Here we show the some fundamental principles to the impact baton. The baton used is the Bonowi baton (now called the "Smartlock" Baton) whose design and strength dominates the other brands. It's heavy but it's iron rod tough. Concepts of strike angles, speed, power, accuracy, and the need for controlled aggression are discussed in this short intro. A few locks are demonstrated with OJ's sparring partner Alan, home briefly from Iraq. Also shown is the importance of maintaining and maximizing the range advantage of the impact baton. Max Mathews Radio Baton Demonstration
[Recorded: April 7, 2010] In the late 1950s computer music pioneer Dr. Max Mathews created MUSIC, the first widely used music synthesis program while working in the Acoustic Research Group at Bell Telephone Laboratories. Over the next forty years at Bell Labs and then at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics at Stanford University, Mathews advanced and refined digital computer music synthesis. In this video Mathews describes and demonstrates his Radio Baton Controller and Conductor software program and performs brief selections by Bach, Chopin, Beethoven and Appleton. A Radio Baton is an electronic instrument with two baton controllers and a receiving base called the antenna. In the end of each baton is a small radio transmitter. As the batons are moved over the receiving base, four antennas in the base are able to determine the batons' location in three-dimensional space. The movement of the batons through space are converted into instructions determining how the music is to be synthesized. The Radio Baton Conductor Model uses the model of an orchestra conductor controlling the musical tempo, dynamics and expression of the piece. The Conductor program puts the pitches and the durations of the notes in a score that the computer reads as a sequence of beats in the computer memory. The conductor can move the batons around with his two hands, controlling six variables, and assign these variables to whatever functions in the music are important at any <b>...</b>

Aggressive collapsible baton skills can save you in a fight. Whether a LEO or legally-possessing civilian, the baton, like the Bonowi "Smartlock" version, can be devastatingly effective. It is compact, fast into the fast, and strong. But it takes skill and commitment to use. Here we delve into two of the basics of good baton fighting as instructed by experienced martial artist "OfficerJared" or OJ for short (youtube.com/user/officerjared). As I always strive for, the material is presented without ego or hype and therefore is particularly useful to the attentive viewer. We concentrate on striking power and movement, the essential fundamentals to your baton skill set. Without them you will suck and probably have the baton taken from you. It also takes physical fitness and practice to achieve fluidity and speed. A sparring partner is best but methods are suggested for alone practice (tires!). Complex and "hotel floor demo" techniques are avoided in this video, concentrating on simple to remember and effective strikes and movements. Hidden Video Police Officer Beating Man with Baton and Pepper Spray
A St. Louis police officer was captured on video striking a man repeatedly with a baton and spraying him with pepper spray in the early hours of New Year's Day, has been pulled off the streets Tuesday. The owner of the gas station, at 1815 Arsenal Street, identified the officer as Dustin Ries, whom he said was working off-duty for him. The owner, Joel Platke, said Officer Ries had worked for several years at the station providing security out of the substation. Police added that no one filed a complaint about the incident and that there were no arrest reports. The department first heard about the video Tuesday morning, after media outlets began asking about it. Ries, 37, of Chesterfield, could not be reached for comment. His attorney, John Bouhasin, declined to comment because of the ongoing internal affairs investigation. Ries has previously been named in two lawsuits accusing him of excessive force. A 2008 federal suit alleged that Ries assaulted two men with his police baton and pepper spray while he was working off-duty at the Big Bang piano bar on Laclede's Landing in April 2006. Al Johnson, a Clayton attorney for the plaintiffs, said his clients were initially charged with assault but the charges were later dropped. The lawsuit was settled out of court, and Johnson said he was barred from disclosing the amount. Rosie Perreira is an overly anxious widow, living with her violin -obsessed son, Sabhi, and a lovely daughter, Nancy, who she would like to get married to a wealthy young man. Lost - Benjamin Linus' Baton (from The Shape of Things to Come)
One of my favorite clips from JJ Abrams' TV series Lost. A disoriented Benjamin Linus wakes up on the ground in the middle of the Sahara Desert wearing a parka with a DHARMA logo and the name Halliwax on it. His right arm has a deep wound on it and there appears to be steam evaporating off him. He vomit, and two armed Bedouins on horseback approach. One of the Bedouins (speaking Arabic) points out how Ben does not have a trail. The other replies, "Where did this [guy] come from? Down from the sky?" Ben asks them if they speak English, and when he gets no reply, he asks them if they speak Arabic, and then Turkish, but they still do not speak with him. As one searches him he feels something hard in Ben's pocket. Ben pulls out a metal cylinder, which is a telescopic baton. He spins around, beats the Bedouin who was searching him, takes his gun and shoots the other. The beaten one says, "Surrender", and Ben says, "So you do speak English."
