Beachtek DXA-5D Canon 5D Mark II - Right out of the box quick test

Mike here from www.WonderHowTo.com This is a test of the audio gain control neutralizer and other features on the Beachtek DXA-5D for use with the Canon 5D Mark II camera. There are some weird things with this unit that you will quickly see like channel bleeding and seeing the agc dsbl on the VU meter, seems like would have been better as a led light. There is no real "GAIN" control only gain reduction, so you will still need an outside mixer to get great levels. I will try the mini plug input because this was with an XLR and a tram microphone. Any more tests post in comment and I will try.

What's Cool About the Beachtek DXA-SLR for HDSLR Video

www.sam-mallery.com - In this video I crack open a new Beachtek DXL-SLR and go over the included accessories, and how they benefit users of Canon, Nikon, and even Panasonic Lumix GH1 & GH2 shooters. There's a lot more to know about the DXA-SLR, especially the unique way you can monitor the playback from your camera with an A/V output cable. Unfortunately I ran out of time when I was shooting this video, but I go into great detail on the blog post I wrote on the subject, which can be found here: www.sam-mallery.com

AM's Audio Test: BeachTek DXVA-5DA With RODE Mic for 7D

I am shooting a doc in Paris from 9/15 - 10/15. For more from our graffiti/artist residency project in Paris, follow us at grrrlweinparis.tumblr.com/ This test clip of AM during her residency in Paris was shot with the Canon 7D, using natural light. Attached to the 7D were the following audio solutions: BeackTek DXA-5DA Passice XLR Adapter RODE Video Mic I used the AGC DSBL setting, so that the left channel was the inaudible tone of 20khz and the right was what the RODE mic was picking up. Doing this significantly reduced the hiss noise that the Canon 7D generates. In FCP, I deleted audio 1/track 1 and duplicated the 2nd channel/track 2, mixing to stereo. Export settings: Apple TV (for easy upload) 80.1 MB I am figuring out when the RODE mic is enough during interviews and when I should use the wireless lav.

Pain Shack Production Journal 1

www.facebook.com I have a Canon EOS 60D DSLR. It doesn't have a headphone output so I can't hear the audio as I adjust it with the BeachTek XLR adapter. I figured out JuicedLink's preamp/mixer/xlr adapter is much better than BeachTek's, but I think the overall problem with my sound is gain. I'd need JuicedLink's DT454 to fix the gain. I read that if I can turn off manual sound recording, I can eliminate the gain, but that didn't work on my camera. The hiss is always there. I think I might scrap recording the sound with my camera altogether and buy a digital voice recorder. It would be more versatile, but I'd have to synchronize the sound manually. Sigh.
