The Kehlsteinhaus (in English-speaking countries also known as the Eagle's Nest), is a chalet-style building which when built was an extension of the Obersalzberg complex built by the Nazis in the German Alps near Berchtesgaden. The Kehlsteinhaus was an official 50th birthday present for Adolf Hitler. Nicknamed Eagle's Nest by a French diplomat, it was meant to be a retreat for Hitler and a place for him to entertain visiting dignitaries. It was commissioned by Martin Bormann, with construction proceeding over a 13-month period prior to its formal presentation to Hitler in 1939. It is situated on a ridge at the top of the Kehlstein mountain (1834 m), reached by a spectacular 6.5 km (3.9 mile) road that cost 30 million Reichsmark to build (about 150 million euros in 2007, adjusted in line with inflation). The last 124 metres up to the Kehlsteinhaus are reached by an elevator bored straight down through the mountain and linked through a long granite tunnel below. The inside of the large elevator car is surfaced with polished brass, Venetian mirrors and green leather (the elevator is still used daily). Construction of the mountain elevator system cost the lives of 12 construction workers [1]. The main reception room is dominated by a fireplace of red Italian marble, presented by Mussolini. Much of the furniture was designed by Paul Laszlo. The building is also often called "Hitler's Tea House", but this is a misnomer <b>...</b>

Still photo-slide show of our visit to Obersalzberg-Berchtesgaden, where Hitler's Berghof (mountain home) was located. It has spectacular views of the Untersberg mountain. The Berghof itself has since been bombed and demolished over the decades, and today only ruins remain. The Hotel zum Türken is just a very short walk away from the site of the Berghof, and has a rustic feel to the place. The present proprietor/manager is a descendant of the man who built the Hotel in 1911. Today there's also a swanky Intercontinental Hotel located further down the road beyond the Türken for regular tourists. Königsee is an alpine lake not far from Berchtesgaden. It's very clean not least because of the rule that only electric motors can power boats on the lake. This video shows a boat trip from the resort area at the Berchtesgaden end up to the church at St. Bartholomä.

This video was shot at the Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden in Germany, which is also known as Kehlsteinhaus. It was built for Hitler's 50th Birthday, it sits at 1800 metres on top of a mountain overlooking Berchtesgaden. Hitler was afraid of heights and only visited the house 14 times. Today it is a tourist attraction. Sadly when we shot this (June 2011) it was cloudy at the top so you miss the great view. We will go back though. Stangassinger's customers appreciate his hand-made products, even if it comes at a price - up to €2500 a pair.Stangassinger wants to preserve the traditional Bavarian designs, as does his clientele from all across Europe. Before we left for London, we visited Berchtesgaden, which is a town in the German Bavarian Alps. It is near the border with Austria, about 30 km (18 miles) south of Salzburg and 180 km (111 miles) southeast of Munich.

A little clip of Hitler in Berghof(Color) The Berghof was Adolf Hitler's home in the Obersalzberg of the Bavarian Alps near Berchtesgaden, Germany. Next to the Wolfsschanze this was the place where Hitler spent the most time during World War II and it was also one of the most widely known of Hitler's headquarters[1] which were located throughout Europe. Rebuilt, much expanded and re-named in 1935, the Berghof as such was a functioning residence for less than ten years. In late April 1945 the house was damaged by British aerial bombs, set on fire by retreating SS troops in early May, looted after Allied troops reached the area and demolished in 1952.

In this video, we visit the Kehlsteinhaus or the "Eagle's Nest" which is known as Hitler's Summer House, just outside Berchtesgaden. The house is 1834m (6017ft) above sea level and the views over the valley are incredible. When the clouds aren't covering, it can be nice and warm, but when the clouds cover, it can get rather nippy. It is worth pointing out that Hitler had a specific teahouse built for him, which sits just below the Mooslahnerkopf hill. "The so-called Eagles Nest is often called "Hitler's Tea House," but this is technically incorrect. Hitler did not treat the Kehlsteinhaus as a tea house, and the location he visited daily for afternoon tea was actually the Mooslahnerkopf Teehaus" - www.thirdreichruins.com
