Last Stand at Little Big Horn

The Battle of Little Big Horn, known as ''Custer's Last Stand,'' has been one of the most frequently depicted moments in American history and one of the least understood, still shrouded in myth. The battle has inspired over 1000 different paintings and works of art, calendar displays, comic books and cereal boxes. The golden-haired general and his doomed 7th Cavalry have been wiped out by Indians in more than 40 films. Yet the battle that left no white survivors also left two very different accounts of Little Big Horn: one white; one Native. Using journals, oral accounts and Indian ledger drawings as well as archival and feature films, a Native American novelist, James Welch (Winter in the Blood, The Indian Lawyer) and a white filmmaker, Paul Stekler (Eyes on the Prize) combine talents to examine this watershed moment from two views: from that of the Lakota Sioux, Cheyenne and Crow who lived on the Great Plains for generations; and from that of the white settlers who pushed west across the continent. Pulitzer Prize-winning Native American writer Scott Momaday narrates.

134th Anniversary of the Little Bighorn Battle

Today, the 25th June 2010, was the 134th anniversary of the Battle of the Little Bighorn so I did this video as a commemoration. At about 5pm, Custer made his last stand and that time is coming up in about 3 quarters of an hour or so. Over here in England, it will be midnight but I tried to upload this video relating to the time in Montana, where the site is, so hopefully it will be up around 5pm Montana time. I don't own the clips or music used - just the ideas of the video :) Hope you like it, x

Bighorn sheep - Ovis canadensis

Bighorn sheep inhabit grassy mountains, alpine meadows and foothill country near rocky cliffs that allow quick escape. The natural range of Bighorn sheep is the Rocky Mountains from Southern Canada to Colorado. The Bighorn's body is compact and muscular; the muzzle, narrow and pointed; the ears, short and pointed; the tail, very short. The male sheep is called a ram and can be recognized by his massive brown horns.. Ewes, the females, are smaller than the rams and have shorter, smaller horns that never exceed half a curl. Bighorns are known for head-to-head combat between males. visit www.stockshot.nl for broadcast footage

Bowfishing - 2011 Bighorn Lake

2011 Wendy, Nadia, Parker, and Dustin go bowfishing for carp on Bighorn Lake in Montana. Here in Montana we consider carp an invasive species, which are not game fish. From an article released from the Montana Fish and Game - "Montana is listening to warnings about Asian carp, VHS virus, Eurasian watermilfoil, and other aquatic invasive species (AIS). The water-borne invaders take over lake and river ecosystems, kill native fish, and ruin recreational and industrial equipment." We are actually doing most anglers a favor here.

Big Horn Sheep - PT1 - Ram - Big Horns Butting Heads - Best Shot Footage - Stock Footage

Big Horn Sheep on Mountain Butting Heads, Rams Battle, Big Horns Fighting. Bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis)[3] is a species of sheep in North America[4] with large horns. These horns can weigh up to 30 pounds (14 kg), while the sheep themselves weigh up to 300 pounds (140 kg).[5] Recent genetic testing indicates that there are three distinct subspecies of Ovis canadensis, one of which is endangered: Ovis canadensis sierrae. Bighorn Sheep are often confused with the Mountain Goat (Oreamnos americanus), another mammal that occupies mountainous regions. Sheep originally crossed to North America over the Bering land bridge from Siberia: the population in North America peaked in the millions, and the bighorn sheep entered into the mythology of Native Americans. However, by 1900 the population had crashed to several thousand. Conservation efforts (in part, by the Boy Scouts) have restored the population. Bighorn Sheep are named for the large, curved horns borne by the rams (males). Ewes (females) also have horns, but they are shorter with less curvature.[13] They range in color from light brown to grayish or dark, chocolate brown, with a white rump and lining on the back of all four legs. Males typically weigh 127--316 pounds (58--143 kg), are 36--41 inches (91--100 cm) tall at the shoulder, and 69--79 inches (180--200 cm) long from the nose to the tail. Females are typically 75--188 pounds (34--85 kg), 30--36 centimetres (12--14 in) tall and 54--67 inches (140--170 cm) long ...

Bighorn Sheep Go Head To Head

Three bighorn sheep who haven't gotten laid for a year fight over a female. They bash bash the shit out of each other with their horns, and use every dirty tactic to win (watch one of them get kicked in sack around 1:40). The battle is followed by a high speed chase on a mountainside after the female. After all that the guy gets 2 seconds of sex for his trouble.

2009 Oregon Bighorn Sheep Hunt

My dad drew a coveted California bighorn sheep tag for the Aldrich unit near John Day Oregon. The ram was green scored by ODFW at 175 3/8 (176 gross). It's bases were 16 and 15 5/8 and its horn lengths were 36 2/8 and 35 3/8. The ram was shot twice. The first shot while standing was back a little bit. The second shot hit directly in the shoulder and hit the bottom of the heart and dropped it instantly. A 300 weatherby magnum with 150 gr partition was used. Special thanks to the Russ, Hunter, Walker, the Brownings, Matt, Jeff and Larry. More pictures here: tinypic.com
