The Southern Vampire Mysteries feature many of our favorite True Blood characters, not least of which is Bill Compton. But there are some differences between the book version of Bill and the one we see on TV. Let's compare. Starting with the basics, both versions of Bill have the same background. Born William Compton, he's a Southern gentleman who fought in the Civil War and was turned into a vampire against his will. Many years later, he returns to his family home in Bon Temps, Louisiana where he falls in love with Sookie Stackhouse. True Blood begins with a pretty spot-on adaptation of book Bill. Quiet and stoic, Bill is Sookie's first love and next-door neighbor. In the books, though, their relationship starts to sour when Bill becomes a workaholic who's obsessed with creating a vampire database. Yes, the book version of Bill is a total computer nerd! A far cry from the vampire King of Louisiana, huh? And here's another big difference between the two Bills. Jessica, his vampire daughter, doesn't even exist in the books.
