Stampede on Bridge on the last day of the 3 Day Water Festival 2010. Bottle neck occurred as too many people crossing the bridge to get to an out door concert on Diamond Island. I put this slide show together for my fellow Cambodians. My heart goes out to the dead, injured, and grieving. God Bless the Cambodian People who have endured more than their fair share of hardships. There were lots of theories on how this happened, but the investigation found the root cause to be that the suspension bridge started swaying with the shift and weight of the crowd, that in turn led to a massive panic that the bridge was collapsing and the stampede started with most of the dead trapped in the middle due to massive internal compression. The anatomy of a human stampede is a univeral problem. Anytime you have so many people in an enclosed area, all you need is something to panic the crowd and a stampede happens. It happened in Germany, India, South Africa, and even in the US at a Walmart last year when an employee got trampled over on a Black Friday sale. I hope officials take note so that they can insure future events won't go so wrong!
