Tour de France2011 Stage17: Edvald Boasson Hagen 2nd wins

Edvald Boasson Hagen won his and Team Sky's second stage of the Tour de France with a solo triumph in Italy. The Norwegian made amends for his second place to his compatriot Thor Hushovd on Tuesday by winning the 179km 17th stage from Gap to Pinerolo. Thomas Voeckler retained the yellow jersey -- but only just. The Frenchman twice wobbled on the final descent, the second time overshooting a corner into a driveway, and leads by 1min 18sec from Cadel Evans. Team Sky's 24-year-old from Lillehammer had a 20-second lead going over the top of the last climb, a twisting and dangerous 8km descent through trees to the finish. Behind him, in a group containing Alberto Contador, Andy Schleck and the race leader Thomas Voeckler, the attacks came thick and fast. The route traversed the Alps from France to Italy and included five categorised climbs, including a 46km descent from the ski resort of Sestriere to the day's final climb, the category two Côte de Pramartino.
