Bournemouth Trolleybuses
On April 20th 1969 Bournemouth closed its fine trolleybus system. The system had a number of features that were unusual. Christchurch High Street was too narrow for a conventional turning loop so trolleys used a turntable. The driver held the booms clear of the wire while the clippie pushed the bus round. Trolleys had a open rear platform for boarding and a door operated exit at the front. The doors were opened and shut by the driver. These trolleys had two staircases, at the rear for boarding passengers and at the front for alighting passengers. This system of boarding and alighting was devised to cope with heavy demand during the holiday season. Bournemouth's trolleybuses covered some 39 route miles with 127 vehicles at its peak. Plans to build a town centre by-pass spelled the end for the trolleys. Soon after this film was shot the Pier area was to despoiled by a flyover of monumental ugliness. Trolleybuses last operated in Britain in Bradford in 1972. However it was announced in March 2011 that a trolleybus system for Leeds, the city which introduced trolleybuses in Britain back in 1911, has government approval and once a the bureaucratic hurdles have been overcome construction will start in 2014 with an opening planned by 2016. For more images visit www.manychefsbroth.co.uk Due to a serious bit of bad luck, the Bournemouth Air festival (Organised by Bournemouth Council) was a bit of a wash out. Heavy rain fall lasting hours flooded many parts of Bournemouth. This video shows the flooding in Bournemouth Gardens. There was also a section of road on Gervis Place split and pushed upward by the pressure of underground waterpipes. The Red Arrows had just completed a display at the Bournemouth Air Festival when the single-engine jet went out of control as they returned to the seaside town's airport on Saturday afternoon.....(all moneys from the video is going to help hero's) Witnesses yesterday told how they found the body of the pilot, known as 'Eggman', face down in the River Stour. Killed: Jon Egging and Emma Egging on their wedding day last June His ejector seat and helmet were nearby, while his parachute was also in the water. Yesterday Flight Lieutenant Egging's grandmother said relatives have been told the pilot may have been unable to eject from the stricken jet because of the huge G-forces encountered when he banked at too sharp an angle. The pilot managed to set the Hawk on a path away from homes in the nearby village of Throop, and issued a Mayday call and is thought to have been thrown from the wreckage on impact. Doris Egging, 88, from Southam, Warwickshire, said: 'Jon was a hero but he probably didn't eject because he was unable to after being knocked out. 'I spoke to my son, Jon's father Philip, and he sounded ill. He couldn't take it in. 'I'm told they were coming back at quite a height and this may have sent Jon's plane out of control. Philip was told Jon was higher than he should have been when he banked. 'I would very much believe he would sacrifice his own life to save others, that's the way he was.' This was to be the last display by RED 4 Jon Egging. His plane crashed south east of Bournemouth Airport at 1:48pm just after display to the crowds on Bournemouth Seafront. He steered his plane away from houses and saving many peoples lives whilst sacrificing his own. As i am posting this, 2nd October 2011, there are no chemtrails today over Dorset, england. This footage shows deliberate and particularly heavy spraying of toxic heavy metals. Each time a rainwater or soil sample is taken after this kind of spraying the tests reveal extremely high levels of Barium, aluminium oxide and strontium and many instances of fungus, bacteria , polymers, ethyl diobromide, and many other unknown substances. A great day trip to Bournemouth on the Waverley Paddle Steamer from Yarmouth Isle of Wight. on what was a perfect weather day in Sept 2011, the trip takes about 90mins out of the Solent going West, and steams along the coast past Boscombe to Bournemouth Pier where it dropped us off before steaming on to Lulworth Cove, returning to pick us up 5hrs later.

FATV - Exclusive FA Cup highlights of Bournemouth v Tranmere. Josh McQuoid's hat-trick helped Bournemouth secure an FA Cup second-round spot at the expense of Tranmere. A close-range double from McQuoid and Marc Pugh's stunning long-range effort gave the hosts an early 3-0 lead. But an expertly taken third by McQuoid and a super strike by Liam Feeney gave the Cherries a thrilling victory. The world famous FA Cup is the oldest, and largest football competition in the world. The first FA Cup competition in season 1871-72 had fifteen entries. (This season more than 700 took part.) Wanderers, a team formed by ex-public school and university players, won the first final 1-0 against Royal Engineers at Kennington Oval. A crowd of 2000 attended the match and they each paid one shilling for the privilege. The first Cup Final goal was scored by Morton Betts, playing under the assumed name of 'AH Chequer'. He was an Old Harrovian who had once played for Harrow Chequers. The original trophy, much smaller than the present one, was made by Messrs Martin, Hall & Co. and cost £20. In 1895, after Aston Villa had won the competition, the cup was stolen from the window of a firm of football outfitters in Birmingham where it had been placed on display. It was never recovered.
