C-130 YMC-130H Lockheed Hercules flight test accident crash

Discovery Communications Content copyright. Top secret Iran hostage rescue mission aircraft YMC-130H were three modified Lockheed Hercules Aircraft for Top Secret "Operation Credible Sport", for second Iran hostage crisis rescue attempt. One of the measures considered for a second hostage rescue attempt in Iran was a project to develop a "Super STOL" aircraft, to be flown by Combat Talon crews, that would use a soccer stadium near the US Embassy as an improvised landing field. Called Credible Sport, the project acquired three C-130H transports from an airlift unit in late August 1980, one as a test bed and two for the mission, and modified them on an accelerated basis. Designated as the XFC-130H, the aircraft were modified by the installation of 30 rockets in five sets: eight firing forward to stop the aircraft, eight downward to brake its descent rate, eight rearward for takeoff assist, four mounted on the wings to stabilize them during takeoff transition, and two at the rear of the tail to prevent it from striking the ground because of over-rotation. Other STOL features included a dorsal and two ventral fins on the rear fuselage, double-slotted flaps and extended ailerons, a new radome, a tailhook for landing aboard an aircraft carrier, and Combat Talon avionics, including a TF/TA radar, a defensive countermeasures suite, and a Doppler radar/GPS tie-in to the aircraft's inertial navigation system. Of the three aircraft, only one received full modification. The program ...

Lockheed Martin - C-130J Super Hercules In Action

Range, power, performance, safety redundancy, reliability, sophisticated avionics all come with the C-130J Super Hercules - an aircraft that can meet virtually any airlift mission requirement. With Rolls-Royce AE2100D3 engines and Dowty R391 six-bladed composite propellers, the Super Hercules operates in hot climates, handling short, high-elevation airstrips with maximum payload. The Super Hercules transports 33 percent more payload, using half the crew, while burning less fuel and flying faster, farther and higher than its predecessors. Faster: The C-130J is faster and climbs more quickly, offers 21% more speed. Time-to-climb is slashed by 50% over earlier model C-130s. Higher: The C-130J flies higher, climbs over the weather and has a 40% greater cruising altitude than the C-130H. Farther: The C-130J flies much farther with less fuel, provides up to 40% greater range than the C-130H. Clearly, Lockheed Martin has gone much farther than simply producing an upgrade to the legendary C-130. Virtually every system, component and structural part of the Super Hercules has been chosen to yield a maximum performance airlifter, which is why the aircraft has so quickly gained worldwide appeal. In the United States, the US Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, Marine Corps and Coast Guard rely on the C-130J. International C-130J operators include the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy and Denmark with Norway, Canada and India soon joining their ranks. Many nations are ...

Warsaw-Modlin Mazovia Airport (IATA: WMI, ICAO: EPMO) is a disused military airfield, currently being converted[2] into a passenger airport for low-cost carriers serving the Warsaw, Poland market. The airport is scheduled to open for passenger service prior to UEFA Euro 2012. On 8 February 2010, the airport was registered officially as civil airport by the Polish Aviation Authority (Urząd Lotnictwa Cywilnego).[3] It is located 35 km north of Warsaw's city centre the district of Modlin in the town of Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki. Originally designed for military use in the Second Polish Republic in 1937, it was not made operational until 1940 as an airbase for the German Luftwaffe in occupied Poland. Between 1945 and 2000 it was used by Polish and Soviet air forces. In 2000 the Polish Ministry of National Defence declared the airfield closed.[4] Subsequently, much of its original area was made available as capital in a joint management limited liability company created to run the future airport, Port Lotniczy Mazowsze Warszawa-Modlin Sp. z oo The airport currently features one asphalt runway 2500 m long and 60 m wide at an altitude of 104 m.[1] The runway is in poor condition and lacks proper lighting and modern radio navigation aids such as an Instrument Landing System (ILS). Since 1999 the unit has been the sole provided of this type of airlift to the National Science Foundation and United States Antarctic research efforts. By Lt. Col. Edward Vaughan Operation DEEP FREZE (ODF) has its roots in the storied history of the US Navy's explorations in Antarctica. As far back as 1839, Captain Charles Wilkes led the first US Naval Expedition into Antarctic Waters. In 1929, Admiral Richard E. Byrd established naval outposts on the Antarctic coast and began conducting photographic and geologic mapping operations around the continent on snowshoe, dog-sled, snow mobile, and airplane. On November 28, 1929, Byrd and his crew made their historic first flight over the South Pole. After several more expeditions to Antarctica, in 1946, Byrd organized the US Navy's Operation Highjump, which put more than 4000 people and numerous ships and other craft into the area of the Ross Sea. In 1948, Commander Finn Ronne led an expedition that photographed over 450000 square miles of the continent by air. The International Geophysical Year 1957--58, or IGY, as it was known, marked a turning point in Antarctic exploration. With the IGY, science would become the primary focus of the US presence in Antarctica. Preparing ...

A most impressive take-off: A Jet Assisted Take Off (JATO) at Miramar NAS Air Show, on August 16, 1997 This is "JATO" because this is a "Jet of expanding hot gases forced out of a small opening"; Whatever if the jet of hot gas is generated by the combustion of solid fuel or liquid fuel, from a static engine or turbo assisted. Be aware that I'll remove any offending comment and block it's author immediately! Even more impressive when on big planes like this C-130. It's "Fat Albert" of the Blue Angels. This was during one of the very last Miramar Air Shows with the Navy. It was in the early part of the Twilight Miramar Air Show.
