We have faith Petition COP17

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu signs the We Have Faith -- Act Now petition for climate justice. With this petition, faith communities across Africa are calling for climate justice -- that is, for a fair, ambitious and binding agreement in the climate change negotiations (COP17) that will be conducted by governments meeting in Durban in December under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Climate justice means that those countries that have benefited the most from the climate-damaging carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels should be making the greatest efforts to remedy the problem. Yet at the moment, it is developing countries which are making the greatest efforts to cut carbon while also being most vulnerable to climate change. Climate change is not a future problem -- it is already bringing droughts, flooding, hunger, conflict and increased migration to Africa. Archbishop Tutu and other faith leaders will lead a great multifaith rally in Durban on 27 November at Kings Park Stadium. The following weekend, 4 December, will see congregations and communities across Africa meeting and praying that climate negotiators and citizens alike will take full responsibility for the changes we all need to make -- and that COP17 will be conducted with the unflinching moral courage the crisis demands.

COP17: Too late to save Kyoto?

www.euronews.net Time is running out for conclusions to be reached at the 17th UN Climate Change conference in Durban. As it is past its deadline many ministers have already returned home, meaning it could be next year before a decision is made, and those who are staying are exhausted after two weeks of all day discussions. The European commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard says they should still persevere:

Ode to Kyoto - Save the Protocol at COP17

We love the Kyoto Protocol. It's the only legally binding climate treaty we have and - although it's not perfect - it's an essential bridge to a fully comprehensive and legally binding deal. A small handful of countries want to kill Kyoto. We're not going to let them - we will fight for you Kyoto.

Shakira's Waka Waka comes to COP17

Last year, South Africa hosted the FIFA World Cup. This year, it's hosting the UN climate negotiations (COP17) in Durban. Shakira's 'Waka Waka: This Time for Africa' was the official song for the World Cup, so this time we thought we'd take matters into our own hands. It was filmed at the 7th Conference of Youth in Durban, a gathering of over 400 young people from the international youth climate movement who got together to plan for COP17 and share ideas and strategies for domestic action at home. If you want to get involved, write to your politicians and demand from them the maximum possible ambition from your countries' negotiators at COP17.
