(Microids/Broderbund, 1990) The Grand Vizier has captured the Sultan's daughter and has given her an ultimatum; either marry him, or die! You have one hour in which to get out of the dungeons and rescue her from her cell before the Grand Vizier kills her. Each level sees you fighting guardians and finding the way out, and there are potions to be drunk, too. This was also the first game ever to feature real animation, where the characters really do move properly, and the number of actions you can perform are astonishing. The graphics are incredible, especially the intro sequence, and really, the only bad thing about this game is the awful 'music', which thankfully isn't present in the main game. Dendar is host to all manner of horrible monsters and robots, but fortunately you're armed with a huge gun that'll sort most of them out, and you've got a supply of grenades too. There is also a healthy range of power-ups to collect. In short, it's your usual sci-fi shoot-'em-up, but this one is good. The graphics are absolutely luscious, the scrolling is fast, and the explosions when you kill monsters are great.

[Amstrad Cpc] Ghost 'N Goblins Longplay
(Elite, 1986) This is a straightforward platform game that sees you, as a knight, fighting off numerous ghosts, zombies and other monsters. The first level is set in a graveyard, where you have to jump over gravestones and several rivers. The second level sees you on a ship, with more platform jumping involved, and the third level is in a dark cave. After that, the levels start repeating. This game is really showing its age - the graphics are basic, the concept is totally unoriginal, the collision detection is woeful, and above all else, it's too hard.

Amstrad CPC - remake of R-Type (for 128k machines) EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW VIDEO!! Hey guys I'm very excited to bring you a sneak peek preview video of the work done so far on the remake of the Amstrad port of R-Type! (** PLEASE NOTE THIS IS ON AN EMULATOR, THINGS LOOK AND MOVE A LOT NICER ON A REAL AMSTRAD! **) A long time ago, the Amstrad received the port of the legendary coin-op R-Type, it was OK but it was a rush job and was just completely ported from the (excellent) Speccy version. Very little enhancements were made, apart from workarounds to get it displaying correctly on the CPC, this resulted in further overheads and thus ended up being slower and far less impressive than the Spectrum original. The Easter Egg team began work on improving the game back in December 2009, now a year later you get to see their progress! What started out as just improving the graphics, sound effects and music, turned into a massive rewrite of the game improving and enhancing many aspects and introducing even more new stuff. The original Amstrad programmer Keith Goodyer even turned up on the CPC Wiki forums to assist and give his side of the story! Then Bob Pape the Spectrum version programmer came forward with some of his original code! That then became the base for this remake... This is still the unfinished preview version bare in mind, but already we have an amazing improvement and a port all Amstrad fans can be proud of... Enjoy! Death Wish 3 - Amstrad CPC
Violent and bloody game where gangmembers gets beaten to death by the old ladies purses :D Fairly easy game as there are plenty of ammo and healing bandages all over (and they respawn quickly). Haile aiming for a WR on the half marathon march 2009 in the Hague (CPC loop). Unfortunately he didn't succeed. The weather conditions probably played a part in that as the wind was pretty heavy. Still a great run to watch, with some beautiful running. I had to bike pretty fast to follow the front field of runners throughout the race to get some nice video footage. Imagine running an interval session of 32-33sec. on 200m. Now keep that pace pace up untill you each 21.1km and you'll be ending somewhere around WR time (58.33). (US Gold, Probe 1987) Sumptious-looking game from 8-bit programming legend Dave Perry, who was also behind Beyond the Ice Palace and Savage. You are Trantor, the last stromtrooper, who must escape from the alien planet that your starship crashed on, killing all your comrades. Against the clock, you must shoot your way past the inhabitant aliens in order to collect the various letters of the password that are stored around the aliens' underground complex which will ultimately allow you to escape, while collecting ammo, health and time bonuses along the way. The graphics, gameplay and sound (including speech on the loading screen) are all outstanding. Complete walkthrough, Enjoy !

[Amstrad cpc] Rick Dangerous longplay part 1/3
(Firebird, 1989) Our intrepid explorer Rick has crash-landed his 'plane in an Amazonian rainforest and has to escape the nasty Goolu tribe. This won't be easy, and right from the word 'go', there are various nasty traps lying to catch you out - as well as those Goolus. From there, Rick moves on to an Egyptian pyramid where he must recover the stolen jewel of Ankhel, and then it's on to a castle to rescue some prisoners, before blowing up the missile silo where the enemy are based - it's all in a day's work. The excellent cartoon graphics are what makes this game appealing, and although there are traps at every turn, it's not frustrating - it has that 'one more go' factor.

(Ocean, 1987) Lance and Bill have to rid the Earth of the very HR Giger aliens that have invaded it in this excellent conversion of the arcade coin-op Contra. This game boasts superb graphics and really shows off the graphic capabilities of the CPC. Along with some great sound effects the gameplay is also just right and it's a really enjoyable challenge. The 3D sections are quite impressive and it's well worth completing as the ending is hilarious.

[Amstrad cpc] Ghouls'n Ghosts Longplay part 1/2
(US Gold, 1989) Once again King Arthur must take on and defeat the evil forces in his kingdom in this, the sequel to Ghosts 'n' Goblins. A simplistic platformer, you jump around, avoiding obstacles and traps, while shooting the various nefarious supernatural monsters that come at you from all directions using a variety of weapons. Large bosses have to be defeated at the end of every level and as before, you only have your set of knight's armour and your pants to protect you! It looks only slightly nicer than its prequel but it lacks that game's excellent music and original gameplay. If anything, it's not the conversion of this game that makes it poor but the actual arcade original itself.

Excellent movie tie-in (from Dizzy creators the Oliver twins no less!) of the hit movie on the Amstrad CPC. Only 3 stages, but each are completely different and excellently done with marvellous graphics, music and sfx. A great game at the time, professionally made.

Saboteur - Amstrad CPC
Great little game from back when it was all about ninjas in the movies and Chuck Norris could still kick high in the air. Anyways you are on a mission to take down as many people and make as much damage as possible. In Easy mode as seen here you pretty much just has to excape at the top, but we took the scenic route here and picked up the disc as well. Note what happened when we got the disc .. the timer stopped counting down ;D Anyways this is a really hard game and i really dont think the programmer actually tried the harder lvls themselves or they would have noticed that is impossible within the time limit. Perhaps the time limit is good for other 8bit versions of the game, but for the amstrad version you also need to remember how hard it is to jump. Seriously, the controls are so "heavy" that its a wonder if you manage to jump at all. On hardest mode the layout even change so that there are more holes to fall into and they put the explosives in the room right next to the chopper (just getting to that is impossible). Aint that much audio in this game, but it really dosnt matter as the gameplay kinda suchs you in right away. The game really got heart and is a fun challenge in the beginning, but the bad controls drags it down sadly. By Durell 1986

Given that I am playing many of these games for the first time, and everything I say is completely off the cuff, you probably shouldn't take what I say overly seriously. The opinions that I express are my feelings at the time, but it's entirely possible that they would be different if I were to take the time to get to grips with the game. Grange Hill - Amstrad CPC - darkest game-over ever?
Grange Hill was a video game made for 8-bit computers including the Commodore 64, Sinclair ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC. It was based on Grange Hill, a popular children's television show. The object of the game is to retrieve Gonch's personal stereo from the school after hours, which his teacher confiscated. At the end of this video is often considered one of the darkest Game-Overs ever, watch video to see for yourself. The game dosn't included the tv theme tune.
