View coverage of this single track mainline in Southwest Ohio between Hamilton and Vandalia Ohio. This footage was shot in 2009 from early Spring to late Fall. Being a single track line with an adequate amount of traffic, the action is intense. Numerous passing sidings along the way make for interesting railroading. Locations covered include: Hamilton, New River Yard, Trent, Trenton, Middletown, W. Middletown, Carlisle, Miamisburg, Dayton, and Vandalia. The CSX Toledo Sub serves as an artery between Detroit and Cincinnati, Louisville and other points to the South. Automobiles and auto parts trains make up the majority of consists but you'll also see grain, coal, and regular manifest trains.

Lunging locomotives finally grip the rails as CSX 419 stalls. PART I... Read story...
CSX 419 & 411 with loaded coal train V605 stalls coming off the Salsbury Branch just outside Meyersdale, PA. The engineer informs the dispatcher that they have no sand. Watch closely as these two brutt AC4400 actually lunge, and bounce up and down trying to get traction coming up the steep grade of the branch to the mainline. With the locomotives in #8 notch, the hood doors viberate, and you can here the wheels grinding in the sand. It may be a slow video, but you will see what it takes to get this train rolling. The crew in the helper engines never left the comfort of their warm cab in the 19 degree weather. The crew, and some railfans hand sand the rails, and V605 backs up to get a second run for it, and finally makes it out. The whole ordeal to well over an hour. There is now a second clip (PART II) of the progress of the train heading west before it heads east to Cumberland, MD. UP MoPac 1982, CSX, and flying trains in miserable weather on February 5, 2011
February 5, 2011 On February 5, 2011, me, Ray, and Brandon made a little excursion to get something very rare for these parts, a Union Pacific Heritage engine! NS 212 had UP 1982, the MoPac Heritage engine leading the day before, and chances were it would trail on 213 the next day. The only damper on this day was cold, bitter rain that would fall throughout the day, hence some shots with rain on the lens, but the shot that mattered was spared :) 8:28 AM - The meeting spot was Woodbourne, were it was absolutely dreadful. SEPTA 4308 came east with three Silverliner IV's, and CSX Q300-05 comes east some Lansdale cars. They shove into Woodbourne Yard for some work. Power was a grimy looking CSX AC44CW 217 leading, and much cleaner CSX AC44CW 468 trailing. Clips of Amtrak, CSX and FEC seen in Orlando and other parts of Central Florida. I went with Ed Cantu, member of Team Dwarf Signal, to catch some patriotic railroad action. Orange City 00:00 Missed P053 by a hair. He was running 2 hours ahead of schedule. Caught a black bear instead. Orlando 00:12 Amtrak Silver Star heads through downtown. Engineer barely applies pressure to the airhorn. Also notice the gross patch job on the second to last amfleet car 02:21 CSX local by W. Grant St. 03:29 Amtrak P091 departing Orlando Station. Notice the engineer is quilling more air into the horn than he was downtown. 04:18 CSX Q455 gets a clear signal immediately after Amtrak 91 moves out of the block 05:52 CSX local seen again switching at Pineloch. 08:35 Amtrak P097 Silver Meteor heads south through Pinloch. Engineer barely quills air into the horn. This guy had a burnt out ditchlight as well Taft 10:05 Amtrak meeting P097 at Taft, Amtrak Silver Meteor P098 heads north through the yard. Second unit is P40DC #821 Longwood 10:38 Amtrak P098 seen again Orange City 11:27 To make up for missing P053, we caught the northbound Amtrak Auto Train. He was sorter than usual, since most people in their right mind wouldn't travel on a holiday. veteran P40DC's #831 & #814 New Smyrna Beach 12:13 From Orange City, we floored it to New Smyrna Beach and barely caught a Southbound FEC freight with SD70M-2's 103 and 104 leading. Got a nice Patriotic engine to end the day.

I nearly took off prior to this train out of boredom. If it wasn't for the static i heard on the scanner and hearing a faint horn echo I wouldn't have caught this train. Once I heard the few toots of the horns I got ready. I was certainly not expecting to see a flame thrower beeing shot out of the exhaust stack of the second GE unit. I pointed to the second unit just as the engineer gave me a few shots from the horn with a very kick ass thumbs up!!!

HD: A Busy CSX Metropolitan Subdivision
On November 23, 2010, an outing to the CSX Metropolitan Subdivision resulted in a wide variety of power of a different variety of trains, including the well-known "Rock Runner" and Double Stack trash train, both powered by classic EMD's. While the line was not as busy as anticipated, trains still ran back-to-back until a dead lull in the afternoon which made the perfect time to head over to the NS H-Line/CSX Cumberland Subdivision at Shenandoah Junction where there was no lacking in action. On the CSX we see: Q416 admist the busy MARC rush throttles up from a stop. CSX ES44AC 780 CSX D8-40CW 7727 Q139 sneaks up on us after a MARC train left the station, and therefore did not have time to move to better light. CSX ES40DC 5303 CSX D8-40C 7528 CSX ES40DC 5339 CSX SD60I 8745 Q751 "Rock Runner" was probably the best catch of the day running up the grade with the usual 4 pack of GP's. Not to mention the fantastic RS-3L horn! CSX GP38-2 2723 CSX GP40-2 6138 CSX GP40-2 4408 CSX GP40-2 6150 U821 struggles up the grade with full force! CSX AC4400CW 307 CSX ES44AC 867 D765 shortly follows once again sneaking up on us, this is the only double stack trash train on the CSX system and the destination is only a few miles away at PEPCO. CSX SD40-2 8437 CSX SD50 8555 We then head over to Brunwick, unfortunately missing Q415 on arrival, but shortly there after Q130 pulls in for a crew change. We did not stick around until it left because it would have been a long time (and we were hungry <b>...</b>

[Watch in HD] On a hot Sunday with high temperatures in the 90s, I took a trip east to Tuscola's CN/UP/CSX diamond where I eventually met up with Alex Wood and Stephen Schmidt and had an excellent day trackside, although I was pretty sunburnt after. CSX Stalls On Grade
The date was July 22nd. We catch a loaded Southbound CSX with 90 loaded hoppers as it climbs the Bellaire Viaduct getting ready to cross the Ohio River going into Benwood, WV. This is a 2% grade. With only one engine online and hot slick rails it made for quite a Challenge. The 2nd unit would not Loaded due to low water pressure so it was worthless. So we hear the ES44AC giving it all she has to make the grade. But the engineer had to back of the throttle due to a loss of traction coming out of the curve. That caused the train to stall. I waited around for about 30 minutes but I had to go off to work. What happened after I left was, the train ended up backing down the grade to clear the Diamond with NS at the bottom of the grade, they then cut the cars off, then took the engines over to Benwood and picked up two more CSX engines. They came back with a Mother & Slug unit. Coupled onto their train and made another run at the grade. And from what I was told they made it over fine. Wish I could have caught it. But that is the story of this Stall. Hope you enjoyed the video. Also I know I will get a comment saying That GE sucks, But the fact is, That if you don't have enough power and Traction you are not going to make it no matter what engine you have. CSX N016-07 at Okeechobee, FL on the Auburndale Sub!
Here we have the Super Bowl of my catches today! CSX N016-07 making it's way first through the city of Okeechobee, Florida. The coal is delivered to the Indiantown Coal plant, some 30 miles northwest of West Palm Beach. My second shot was at an isolated portion of the Auburndale Subdivision. I have always wanted to catch this train and I finally accomplished it! I want to thank Tim, "FloridaTrainKid" for giving me the heads up for this train and updates on it's whereabouts. Bruce Friedman's CSX HO Scale Model Railroad
A visit to Bruce Friedman's CSX HO Scale Model Railroad based on the route from Philadelphia, PA to Baltimore, MD. It's a multi-level walk around design, using DCC (Digital Command Control), the signals just as the prototype (aka the real thing) are operated via a computer program and by a dispatcher when they have an operating session, which is a simulation of prototype practices moving the trains over the road, picking up and setting out cars along the route, there are staging yards that trains are set up on to move over the railroad. The trackage is code 70 and 83, which is based on the actual weight of the rail based on how much it weighs per yard, the turnouts (which allow changing routes from one track to another) are based on #6 and #8 specifications, so that means the degree of curvature is what determines whether the turnout is #4, 5, 8, 10 or 12, they go as high as #20's and #30's for high speed operations and even greater. The layout requires 70 locomotives to operate during the ops sessions, also there are a total of 700 cars to fulfill the operations. The layout is based on current operations, folks from all walks of life are into the hobby and t attend Bruce's sessions to operate the layout, railroaders who really run trains either as conductors or engineers, and a great deal of military folks who are stationed in the area or visit the area, and some law enforcement as well. After those two trains pasted. Finally MrConraal made it and MrConraal's radio detector came to life with the news (first of an auto rack, it never came) of CSX Q410 passing under Cherry Ln on track 2. Later after Q410 passed the detector, again, picked up the call of a NB CSX Tropicana passing under Cherry Ln on track 2. A good time was had by all with me, rokenbok45, and MrConraal! Small CSX B725 in Walpole MA at 5:30am (6/27/11)
So i got to Walpole station around 4:30am and was surprised not to see CSX B725 waiting for the green signal. I parked the car, filmed some of the track progress and waited. At 5:30am right after the second MBTA inbound of the day, i heard the distant rumbles of the CSX locomotives, I actually found a new spot and with the early morning sun just rising i thought it was a good place to set up the tripod and film him going across the diamonds.

Trespasser Struck by CSX Freight Train Q436 in Palmer, MA
#99 - Most Discussed (4/27/10) - News & Politics I guess it was bound to happen sometime. I was in Palmer with a bunch of friends on Friday, 4/23/10 when a trespasser was struck by this CSX train. The trespassers, a 24 year old male and his father, were seen walking along the tracks. Later, CSX Q436 went into emergency at 1408 hours and reported striking one of the trespassers. The son was flown to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. The latest I heard was that he lost one leg and part of another. A lot of evidence supports the theory that he and his father were tagging. See here: www.subchat.com The incident delayed both Vermonter trains about three hours. CSX Q436, with 69 mixed cars destined for Framingham, MA, was delayed over an hour and a half. For the most part I won't moderate comments on this video, unless they are vulgar/hateful or spammy/irrelevant. There are a couple errors in the video. One, I said CSX engine 507 instead of 597 because the camera's screen resolution was very low and hard to read, and two, 'trespasser' was spelled wrong a couple times in the beginning because it was copy and pasted and I didn't realize it till now. Folks, Let's be careful out there!!!! I traveled to Harpers Ferry, WV to video some CSX and The Amtrak Capitol Limited for a documentary on WV Trains. Great shots coming thru the tunnel. A CSX WB mixed freight heads toward the station that has some folks waiting for the Capitol Limited to Chicago from Wash. DC.. I swing the camera around and--- OMG, he can't see or hear the EB coal drag bearing down on him. Too much noise to yell, I frantically wave left arm back&forth and jab point with right arm at the oncoming train. Wow--!!!!So Very Very Close!!!!
