This entire film was filmed on the island of Kauai over a 9 day period. The first 3 days were spent hiking the Napali coast, a 11 mile hike along the coast. We did this for 3 days. After this we spent 2 more days exploring the island. I did this with 8 other friends. After the 5 days were up with them, they all flew back to Oahu where everyone was living, and I stayed on the island on my own for 4 more days. I had a rental truck, that's how I got around. I didn't want to spend money on hotels though, so I slept in the truck, in a Walmart parking lot for the other 4 nights. A lot of cars get broken in on the island of Kauai, according to rumors, so that's why I would camp in the parking lots, so I was a lot more exposed if someone tried to break in where I was sleeping That way i wouldn't get robbed, raped, or murdered, ha. At night when I got done filming, I would go into the only Walmart on the island, where they also have a McDonald's, and I would bum off there wi-fi with my ipod touch, and plot my path for the next day, then I would head out before the break of dawn every morning, and I would get back after sunset to do it all over again. I found similar results to what Ryan found, except I didn't see that the T2i was more saturated than the 5D. Color and saturation are so similar you could easily mix both footage You might be asking, "Dave, why are you comparing the 5D mark II to the 550D when the mark 3 is coming soon? Yes it is true that the 5D in terms of features almost feels historic when compared to it's little cropped frame brothers when it lacks a ton of cool features like focus points faster shutter drive a level built in zoom, tilt out screen. But the reason the 5D is Canon's flag ship product for professionals is because of the full frame.

We spent 10 days on Vancouver. Most of that time was spent in one of my favorite places, Barkley Sound. It's an area with 150 islands in a 5 mile radius. We canoed from one island to the next, camping on them. On a technical side, it was all shot on the Canon 5D Mark II. Most of the shots were done with the Canon 16-35mm 2.8 L Series. A Nikon 50mm 1.8 adapter, and a Nikon 70-200 2.8 with Canon/Nikon lens adapter. The smooth shots were done with a glidecam 2000. This video highlights several clips we've made using our new High Dynamic Range (HDR) process. Video is captured on two Canon 5D mark II DSLRs, each capturing the exact same subject via a beam splitter. The cameras are configured so that they record different exposure values, eg, one camera is overexposed, the other underexposed. After the footage has been recorded, we use a variety of HDR processing tools to combine the video from the two cameras, yielding the clips you see above. HDR Video provides filmmakers with many exciting new opportunities. Not only can HDR video create interesting effects, it can also allow for even exposure where artificial lighting is unavailable or impractical. For example, when a subject is backlit, one camera could be set to properly expose the subject, the other the sky, resulting in video with perfect exposure throughout. froknowsphoto.com You always see side by side comparisons of new cameras and in this case I wanted to put the Canon 5D Mark III against the Nikon D800. Being that these cameras are not mine I decided to do a comparison of the boxes, sizes, buttons and feel. I have to say the 5D felt a ton better in my hands compared to the Nikon D800. With that said I have shot in the real world with the Nikon and had no issue with its feel at that time. When I do get a chance to use both of these cameras in the real world I will be sure to bring you those results. In the meantime I can see owning both cameras. I could see having a D800 to go with my Nikon D4 but I can also see picking up a Canon 5D Mark III to start building my Canon set up. Although not pushing the envelope with regards to MegaPixels, Canon have been busy working away at providing answers to many of the, small, complaints of the Mark ii, most of which is the autofocus, so instead of increasing the auto focus ponits from 9 to 12, they have gone mental and put in a monster 61 auto focus points! They also say they have increased the ISO performance, not only in numbers but also in noise reduction. It is now also able to keep up the fps to keep many sports shooters happy with an impressive 6fps. Video wise, it says its better, i cant figure out how as the mark 2's video is so very good. but i am sure it is, they say it should have reduced moire and that may be down to the direct down sampling of the sensor resolution which is an exact 3x compared to before... yet to see good evidence of that though. price wise its a little more expensive than the mark 2 when it first came out but a full double the price of a mark 2 as of March 2012, so you better be rolling in money if you want to stump up the extra cash for this camera. She's also the head soccer coach at BYU Hawaii. We did all the filming on the island of Oahu, in Hawaii. On a technical side, it was all shot on the Canon 5D Mark II, and for two special shots we did those with the GoPro HD. I wanted to try and give people the "perspective" of the soccer ball, so what we did was we duck taped a GoPro HD camera to the soccer ball. I then hid behind a tree so I wasn't in the shot, and then Carolyn, the soccer girl in the video kicked the ball up as high as she could, that's how we got that shot. As far as lenses go, the only lens I used was a Canon 16-35mm 2.8 L Series lens. For the underwater shots with the ocean, I used a SPL housing specifically made for a Canon 5D Mark II. I usually film all my movies at 24fps, however with this one, I wanted to try something new/experiment with. So I filmed all the shots with Carolyn at 30fps. I then conformed them with cinematools to 24fps. By doing this it slowed down the clips just a little bit, so they are barely played in slowmotion. I made this artistic experimental shortfilm together with my friend and actor Eskild (youtube.com/Exkild). It's nice to live in Norway with all the seasons and the variation of weather. It gives us more opportunities when making films. This time, there was a lot of fog outside, and sine there was a lot of snow, a whole field was covered white. We thought we could take advantage of this and shoot a shortfilm. I used my Canon 5D with my 24-70mm f2.8L lens and my new shoulderrig in some shots (I will show the rig to you in a new video soon!). When we shot the scenes inside the house, we used some LED lights we bought on the local hardware store called "Clas Ohlson". Link to the lamp: www.clasohlson.no It was our first try with the LED-lamps and we had short amount of time too shoot, so some of the shots had quite high ISO (Ca ISO 500). www.dslrfilmnoob.com The Canon 5d Mark III showed up on Friday, so I've spent the last couple of days getting a feel for all the new features. So far I'm very pleased with it's performance all though I will need to spend some more time testing the audio inputs. As of right now I'm not sure if it's the camera or the mic that is the source of the noise. Many of the features included on the 5d Mark III are things that Magic Lantern firmware users with 5d mark II's have been enjoying for quit some time. So the new features added to the MKIII probably don't come as much of a surprise. I would still like to have seen focus peaking and a clean HDMI output but I'm guessing Canon still wants to protect their soon to be announced Cinema EOS line of video cameras. Chances are if you're a 5d mark II owner and happy with it's low light performance and focus system, you'll probably have a hard time justifying the extra jump in price that the MKIII represents. After all, your camera will probably need to be earning its keep for $3500. I'm going to continue testing of the 5d mark III and plan to have a full review out in the next few weeks. So far i'm pleased with the results, but i'll see how I feel once the new car small fades. As of this writing B&H is the only online site that has the 5d mark III with kit lens in stock, the body only option is back ordered. this short was a test run to check out the capabilities of mk2. and to my big surprise, the raw footage is absolutely stunning and i'll shoot future shorts with this camera rather than SONY EX3. sound is temp. shot over several hours with various zeiss/canon lenses. cut with FCP, color adjusted with MAGIC BULLET LOOKS. converted to 24p with cinema tools and compressor. the budget for this project was 200 bucks. sorry, no subtitle yet. but the premise is about a guy who's waiting for his girlfriend to come down from work so they can go have a picnic. but when he's forced to wait longer than expected, he plays a prank on her by telling her to get into a "friend's car" parked outside the building. based on a real prank pulled by a colleague.
