David Marshal Williams was born in Cumberland County, North Carolina eldest of seven children. As a young boy, he worked on his family's farm. He dropped out of school after eighth grade and began work in a blacksmith shop, enjoyed a short stint in Navy, but was discharged because he was underage. After returning from the Navy, he spent a semester at Blackstone Military Academy before being expelled. In 1918, he married Margaret Cooke and they later had one child, David Marshall, Jr. Williams worked for Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, but on the side he had an illegal distillery near Godwin, North Carolina. During a raid on this still on July 22, 1921, a deputy sheriff Alfred Jackson Pate was shot and killed, and Williams was charged with first degree murder. The trial ended in a hung jury, but Williams decided to plead guilty to a lesser charge of second degree murder. He was given a 20-30 year sentence. While serving time at the Caledonia State Prison Farm in Halifax County, North Carolina the superintendent, HT Peoples, noted his mechanical aptitude and allowed him access to the prison's machine shop where he demonstrated a genius for fashioning replacement parts for the guards' firearms from pieces of scrap automobile parts. In prison, he would save paper and pencils and stay up late at night drawing plans for various firearms. His extraordinary skills in the machine shop permitted him to stay ahead of his assignments and allowed him time for his own hobby. He began <b>...</b>

It took me years to arrive at a point in my life where I was willing to spend money on a pistol chambered carbine (or PC for short). Fun to shoot and a bit more economical for sure but in the end I spent my limited funds on more powerful and capable weapon systems. However in past years I have "matured" in my prespective and understand that within 100 yards or so (preferably 50 for me), the PCs can get the job done. And they do it with a lighter weight, at a cheaper cost, and usually with recoil and blast versus the tactical carbine. In this Nutnfancy Systems Philosophy video, I discuss the key considerations and Philosophies of Use for the pistol carbines. Considerations of economy, ammo commonality, SAWC, power/ballistics, and accuracy are addressed. Then I launch into the interesting discussions of POU where I identify roles as a Recreation Device, Wilderness/Kit Gun, "Urban Fighter," Home Defense Gun, Submachine Gun Facsimile, Training Platform, and Women's/Kid's Defensive Weapon. This was originally a private video to share with another YouTuber, but they were quite adamant about me posting it. This is essentially unedited, with the exception of a "bleep" or two. If you've been around TNOUTDOORS9 long enough, I'm pretty tight with editing and avoiding crappy camera angles, moving the camera, etc. That is not the case here! This was filmed after a long day on the range that was constantly interrupted by rain and storms. I had brought the M1 along and was hoping to try this at the end of the day. This rifle is too much fun to shoot, low recoil and seems to be reasonably accurate for a military surplus rifle built nearly 70 years ago! In any event, my very first long range test with the .30 M1 carbine, 200 yards, and this rifle built in 1943 by Inland (General Motors) proved to be accurate. Ammo was Aguila 110 gr FMJ. Another one of my Zombie survival tools the Ruger PC9 carbine. If you have the chance to buy a Ruger PC9 or PC40 carbine DO IT! Pistol caliber carbines make alot of sense to those who carry a 9mm or .40 caliber sidearm. With this setup I can slam in a mag from my Berreta 92FS or a mag from the Ruger P95 into the carbine and continue the fight. I had to drill a hole in the center of the berreta mags so they will lock into the PC9. They feed and extract perfectly as you can see in the video. The first mag is a Berreta mag. This is easily one of the best piston AR-15s that I've shot to date. But looking at the somewhat goofy forend on the Rock River Arms PDS Carbine #LR1222, I had my doubts. It seems most AR manufacturers have answered the market demand for piston ARs for their perceived advantages. Some are better than others. So it was with a certain level of surprise that my crew members and myself saw the PDS perform so well in my aggressive testing process. The ergonomics on this model are excellent although the ribbed polymer forend on this model is a bit wide (but flat and stable for barricade shooting too!). 7.2 lbs (naked) For a mid-profile barreled AR is a great accomplishment and it flat out excited me. The PDS is fast into action, easy to carry, and nimble in transition. I have found in my reviews that most piston ARs lose out in the "weighting game" to their DI counterparts. Not so in this model of the gun. The PDS lso available in an aluminum Tri-Rail version (#LR1297, numbers subject to change) but I found those current versions to be heavier with added disadvantage of skin removal as you actuate the ambi, folding charging handles (mounting polymer rail covers might help). The PDS trigger, while pulling slightly higher than the RRA DI guns, still provides excellent feel and crispness. I would not change it (but standard AR triggers will fit). The proprietary RRA "Piston Driven System" or PDS provides a soft recoil impulse, clean bolt operation, easy maintenance (shown), and <b>...</b>

Brief review of the Troy BUIS (backup iron sights) battle sight system on my AR15 carbine, followed by target shooting at 100 and 200 yards. Shooting segments include PIP; second camera at the target to provide picture-in-picture perspective. The rifle is a combination Bushmaster lower receiver and Rock River Arms upper with a 16" barrel. Typically, I use an EoTech and co-witness with the BUIS, but that product is currently out of commission. I purchased this set of Troy sights from a local gun shop, approx. $220 US retail. Ammo used for target shooting is manufactured by Georgia Arms, .223 Remington, 55 gr FMJ. I have shot a ton of this ammo over the years, mainly with the Bushmaster Varminter, and find it to be reasonably accurate. Targets are 18" x 30", 3/8" thick, 500 Brinell steel, and mfg. by Mike Gibson Targets in Idaho.

This was a real fun video to make, with no real focus on any one thing from the carbine class, just a collection of almost all the raw footage I had from my Magpul Dynamics Carbine 1 Course from last October, 2009 in Houston, TX. At least for now, you can get all the info about this particular class I attended from my other 2 Magpul carbine course videos. Here's some info from one of those other videos: The class was a blast and was the 2nd carbine course I've completed. If you like running your carbine hard and love to train, I'd highly recommend looking into taking a Magpul Dynamics course. All of their instructors know their shit, and added up altogether have many deployments and actual time on the gun in combat under their belts. I was running my BCM 11.5" upper with BCM bolt carrier group and Gunfighter charging handle (mod 03, Large), the Knight's Armament Company URX II rail with the integrated front flip up sight, KAC 600m micro rear folding BUIS, Aimpoint Micro T-1 red dot sight in Larue Tactical QD Tall mount, and KAC Triple Tap muzzle brake, on a KAC SR-15 E3 registered SBR lower. Accessories on the gun were Magpul CTR stock, MS2 sling, MIAD, XTM rail covers, and Larue Tactical QD FUG vertical fore-grip. It runs like a sewing machine with anything you feed it. I love this carbine. Review and shooting test of the .30 M1 Carbine, a 1943 Inland-General Motors model. I included a segment with close-ups to view the condition of the rifle in detail and any markings. Shooting segments are at 100 yards on steel targets and include a picture-in-picture aspect of the target camera. In the video, I cited the M1's use in WW2, but it was also a standard in Korea, and according to my research, very early stages in Vietnam. Based on the condition of this rifle at the time of purchase, I suspect it had not been fired in several years, although I could be wrong. The rifling is in very good condition, and there wasn't even the hint of smell of burned powder or cleaning solvents. Just a dry, old rifle that possibly had been sitting in someone's collection for nostalgic purposes. There were just over 6 million M1's produced from 1941 to 1945. Obviously, many have been lost or destroyed. These are becoming more difficult to find in good condition, and prices are triple what they were 20 years ago when I first had the desire to acquire an M1. It is also great to see the M1 gaining somewhat of a cult status with the current generation based on its inclusion in POV video games. The only element I might add to this rifle is a sling, that's it. No plans to add optics or convert it to a folding stock model. I like it the way it is, and plan for the M1 to be a permanent item in my collection. There will be additional videos shooting the M1 at various distances, and it will <b>...</b>

Enter the best factory-produced MP5 clone ever made: the MKE AT-94 9mm carbine. Produced in an H&K licensed MP5 submachinegun factory in Turkey, it's probably as close as you'll get to the MP5 without spending a true fortune.
