Last year Microsoft announced that we would let people add their own digital TV Tuners to their computers to create their own Media Center PC's. (The big difference with CableCard and the TV Tuners you can get today is the ability to record pay channels like HBO in HD.) This was great news, except the number of CableCard based TV Tuners is.. well, almost non-existent. That's going to change in Q1 with Ceton's TV Tuners. This PCIe card will let you install a CableCard in your PC and record up to four HD channels at once. At one booth at CES, they were running two of these cards in one PC, and who wouldn't want to record 8 HD channels at the same time? I met up with Gary Hammer, the President and CEO of Ceton Corporation at CES and asked him some questions about their new TV Tuner.

My week old Ceton InfiniTV 4 installed and working perfectly. Wish I could say goodbye to all cableco hardware, but I still have to put up with a pair of tuning adapters (which so far are working pretty well). Sorry for the dark video, my old Canon SD630 isn't the most sensitive piece of video recording equipment.

Essentially the same as my last video, but this time with a primitive camera light for those of you that might actually like to see inside my HTPC. It's been about two months now, and other than the tuning adapters flaking out on occasion it's been perfect (and the latest drivers appear to have fixed the tuning adapters). For those of you waiting to get yours, I feel your pain. It's worth the wait though. It's an awesome product, and absolutely amazing for a first generation device. 9/11/2011 update The InfiniTV4 is no longer on backorder, and is only $300 brand new now. Also, for those of you stuck with Cisco tuning adapters, most cableco's are rolling out updates that will eliminate the need to have two of them. So what are you waiting for?
