In Charybdis the circular movement of water inside a transparent acrylic cylinder forms an air-core vortex in the centre. Invented by CW McCutchen in 1964, the Charybdis (from Greek mythology of a powerful whirlpool off the Sicilian coast) was designed after studying the flight characteristics of the maple seed falling from the tree. This design was scaled up from the .010 engine size to use the Cox .049 engine. The main wing uses a simple Clarke Y airfoil with 3" chord 36" long. The stab is 18" long and set at -5 degree incidence to the wing. The counterbalance sets the CG at about 1/4" ahead of the leading edge and keeps the wing level by centrifugal force. READ! Here is my attempt at Trivium's Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis. One of my friends requested this awhile ago and so here you are DezaRae, Happy Birthday! :) You are going to notice a transition before the first solo, that is because my 7 string has thicker strings on it that make it harder for me to do the sweeps in that solo so I recorded another video on my 6 string which made it MUCH easier. Now this was by far the hardest cover I have done since I am still working on increasing my shredding and sweeping abilities but I think I did a decent job. I mostly used Lukige's tab for this song (if you haven't checked out Lukige's videos you should do so!) but you might notice on several riffs that I don't follow because there were some differences between the tab and the song itself that I picked up on, such as the riff between the solos and after the second solo. Filmed July 2011 whilst based in Guernsey. HMS Charybdis was a Dido Class crusier of the Royal Navy. her keel was laid down on the 9th November 1939 at Cammell Laird Shipyard (Birkenhead, UK), and she was launched on 17 September 1940, and commissioned 3 December 1941.She was fitted with four twin QF 4.5 in Mk.III, as oppose to QF 5.25-inch (133 mm) guns of her sister ships. She also had Parsons turbines, with four prop shafts, and four 3 drum boilers. HMS Charybdis served in many campaigns, including the Malta convoy, North Africa, atlantic etc. she was an effective anti-aicraft cruiser. In late 1943, the Royal Navy was aware of a German blockade runner, Münsterland. To intercept it, Operation Tunnel was started. This included Charybdis and destroyers HMS Grenville, Rocket and four Hunt class destroyers (HMS Limbourne, Wensleydale, Talybont and Stevenstone). On 21 October 1943, the force was attacked by German 4th Torpedo Boat Flotilla (Elbing class), which was escorting the Münsterland. T23and T27 torpedoed HMS Charybdis, and HMS Limbourne was also attacked. Over 400 officers and ratings were lost. Some bodies were washed up on Guernsey. The resulting funeral by the Nazis were an oppurtinity for the locals to demonstrate against the occupation. The wreck needs special permission to dive her.
