ULTIMATE COAST GUARD BOATS

www.fountainpowerboats.com Video shot and edited by Bryan M. Liles. This video has been posted with Fountains approval and was provided by fountain to post. BUSINESS AT FULL THROTTLE Although the title on his business card says, "Reggie Fountain, Chief Executive Officer, Chairman of the Board and President," it scarcely touches upon the extent of his actual involvement. Unlike any other CEO in the performance boating industry, Reggie Fountain is hands-on every step of the way. He's as likely to be under a boat covered in fiberglass dust to fine-tune a new bottom design, as he is to be sitting behind his desk pouring over financial statements. Like so many boat builders, Fountain started his company after evaluating the market and coming to the conclusion that he could do it better. History tells that unlike most, Fountain succeeded. For his aforementioned R&D program with Mercury, in 1978 Fountain contracted with Bill Farmer of Excalibur Boats in Sarasota, Florida to use one of Farmer's 31' V-bottoms. As the testing program progressed, Fountain couldn't resist the temptation to tinker with the boat. A little sandpaper on the running surface netted a speed increase. Handcrafted putty strakes improved handling and further modifications on the stern drive height improved acceleration. Before long, Reggie had made so many changes the boat no longer resembled the original. The forerunner to the first Fountain was born. Encouraged by the incredible performance gains, Fountain ...

Coast Guard sinks Japanese ghost ship adrift since tsunami

A US Coast Guard cutter poured cannon fire into a Japanese ghost ship that had been drifting since the last year's tsunami, sinking the vessel in the Gulf of Alaska and eliminating the hazard it posed to shipping and the coastline. The cutter's guns tore holes in the 164-foot Ryou-Un Maru on Thursday, ending its long, lonely journey across the Pacific that began when the deadly tsunami set it floating more than a year ago. The crew pummeled the ghost ship with high explosive ammunition, and the derelict Ryou-Un Maru soon burst into flames, and began taking on water, officials said. A huge column of smoke could be seen over the gulf as a Coast Guard C-130 cargo plane, sent to observe the sinking, dropped a buoy to monitor for any possible pollution. The Coast Guard warned mariners to stay away, and aviation authorities did the same for pilots. In about four hours, the ship vanished into the water, said Chief Petty Officer Kip Wadlow in Juneau. It sank into waters more than 6000 feet deep, about 180 miles west of the southeast Alaska coast, the Coast Guard said. Officials decided to sink the ship rather than risk the chance of it running aground or endangering other vessels in the busy shipping lanes between North America and Asia. The ship had no lights or communications system, and its tank was able to carry more than 2000 gallons of diesel fuel. Officials, however, didn't know how much fuel, if any, was aboard. "It's less risky than it would be running into shore or ...

Coast Guard Rescue Training

www.dailyastorian.com Wind and 20-foot waves pounded the rocky outcroppings around Cape Disappointment Wednesday, ravaging the entrance to the Columbia River and closing it to all ship traffic. For the US Coast Guard, it's been perfect weather in which to go and play. Hosting the Canadian Coast Guard, Los Angeles Fire Department and Santa Barbara, Calif., County Fire Department, the US guardsmen showed them all how swift-water, surf and high-wave rescues are executed to perfection -- in up to 20-foot seas on the "Graveyard of the Pacific."

US Coast Guard to sink Japanese tsunami boat ‎

The US Coast Guard has deployed a ship to sink a fishing trawler that was swept away more than a year ago by the tsunami off the coast of Japan and is now adrift near Alaska. The crew of the Coast Guard's 110-foot CG Cutter Anacapa plans to assess the deserted trawler's condition Thursday morning, said Chief Petty Officer Kip Wadlow. Photos: Japan Earthquake If its assessments are satisfactory, the crew will attempt to sink the vessel, named the Ryou-Un Maru, with the 25-millimeter cannon on board the cutter, Wadlow said. The rust-stained trawler is part of a giant debris field in the Pacific Ocean that was generated by the devastating wall of water that struck northeastern Japan following a magnitude 9.0 earthquake on March 11, 2011. The enormous wave dragged everything from cars to houses out into the ocean, killing thousands of people. The drifting trawler is considered a hazard to navigation for vessels in the area, according to authorities. Mariners have received information about the unmanned and unlit boat's presence. Early Thursday morning, the trawler was about 170 nautical miles southwest of Sitka, Alaska, the Coast Guard said. A Coast Guard plane has dropped a self-locating data marker buoy in order to track the boat. The trawler was first spotted floating near British Columbia by a Canadian military air patrol, and it has since been determined that it has been adrift without anybody at the helm since the tsunami, Canadian officials said last month. United States Coast Guard Corruption

In 2010, the United States Coast Guard told the Philadelphia Gun Club (PGC) in no uncertain terms that it could not shoot over the Delaware river, a public waterway, without a safety zone. The PGC does not have, and cannot obtain a safety zone because it cannot pass an environmental test that is first required. So why is the US Coast Guard doing nothing as the PGC continues to hold shoots that dump shot, casings and dead and wounded pigeons into the Delaware river, as well as endangering public boat traffic?
